Best Short Film 2012

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
I need personal/detailed information about the 2012 train derailment in Ellicott city MD killing two girls?
There was a 2012 train derailment in Ellicott city, Maryland that killed two 19 year old girls. I would like to hear any personal or detailed information that people may have because I am co-producing a short film based on this event. Any pieces of information would be very helpful. Especially personal experience or thoughtful input on the topic.

    • ANSWER:
There are a number of news reports and findings about the August 21, 2012 derailment of a CSX train near Ellicott City, Maryland.

According to a NTSB preliminary report, the train was traveling at 25MPH, the speed limit for that stretch of track, and that weather was not an issue. The fact that the two women died is simply for the fact that they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. They were seated on a railroad bridge, which is trespassing. According to news reports, it is common for people to trespass on rail property, and the police do not even seem to care, until someone gets hurt -or worse.

  2. QUESTION:

  3. QUESTION:
What is the best DSLR camera for filmmakers?
I am trying to decide which camera to buy myself for X-Mas. I have about 00-00 to spend. I plan on using it to take portraits of people for a book I am working on and making short films in the near future. I was thinking the Canon 7D. I'm a beginner and just starting out as a photographer/filmmaker. Any advice and opinions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Right now, the Canon 5D, Mark II is the most cost effective dSLR used to shoot video.

You do need to budget for the rest of the accessories you will need to convert a still camera which happens to have a video feature into a viable video camera.

NOTE: Whether you are a beginner or a pro, ALL cameras work the same. There are NO training wheels on cameras unless you want to use them in the program mode like you would when using a P&S camera

If you can wait just a little longer, the New Nikon D800 and Canon 5D, Mark III will be available in the first quarter of 2012

  4. QUESTION:
Any good animated media from places other than English speaking-countries (USA, Canada, UK) and Japan?
I've seen a lot animation from all four of the aforementioned countries and I was wondering if anyone knew of other places with good animated shows/movies/short films.

It's just something I thought would be interesting to look into, because I don't hear about animation from other countries very often.

    Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
If you look at this catalogue of animated series on wikipedia, it lists the country of origin.
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_animated_television_series

      Here's the 2012 line-up of new shows:
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_animated_television_series_of_2012

note that there are 1 from Indonesia, 4 from Canada, 32 from USA and 78 from Japan, which explains why so many animation fans watch anime. There's just more to pick from and they're more diverse. It's likely that Canada relies on America's bigger audiences to make it's show profitable.

Animated movies tend to be more diverse in source than TV shows:
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_animated_feature_films

As you can see from the 2012 line up here, animated movies are from many more countries than TV shows:

      ===

In the future I'd be on the lookout for shows in languages of areas of the world that are becoming more affluent, e.g. Spanish, Portuguese, Indian, Chinese. It would seem that there's a minimum number of language speakers before shows in that language become cost-effective, e.g. French and German seem to import and dub all their animated shows, even though they are affluent countries. Possibly you need ~100 million native speakers before shows pay for themselves.

  7. QUESTION:
What are some various theories concerning 2012?
    I'm making a short film about 2012.

If you want me to, I can add your name in the credits if you give me information.
You can email me as well at nofearinlove@yahoo.com
I know of a few, but everyone has heard different things.
    Thanks for the help

    • ANSWER:
I read a lot about 2012 and I really think that it will be a day like any other..
Of course there will be people who believe the end is near and do their suicide things and stuff like that. E-mail me on Dec 21 2012 and we can talk about what might have been and what we will do with the rest of the ordinary day.

  8. QUESTION:
Why are there two Snow White movies in 2012?
I've noticed same story movies released within a short period of time of each other many times, doesn't that split the revenue a bit? Armageddon and Deep Impact both involve meteors threatening life on Earth; Avatar and Battle for Terra were quite similar to each other as well;Friends with Benefits and No Strings Attached both released a few months apart and many others. Why is this, are the studios trying to outdo each other?

    • ANSWER:
I agree, Mirror Mirror, released in March & the second, Snow White & The Huntsman, coming out in June, are obviously two of the same basic story lines in one season. These film studios produce doppelgangers that are clearly copy-cats, giving the ga head for competitive reasons and non-original interpretations for the same exact theme they are fully aware of. Gauging present trends & demographics are also a factor since they wouldn’t move forward unless there was a foundation, but generally these people spy on each other for short-cuts and have insidious reasons which include grudges. One-upmanship is not beyond the scope of these movers & shakers who regularly ride the wave of others ideas.

  9. QUESTION:
Do you think people are waking up to the Kony 2012 scam?
I'm glad that I'm seeing people who are calling it out for what it really is-- A war propaganda film.

Interesting how this movie comes out within a relatively short time of finding oil in Central Africa.

I'm glad that people are not being fooled as easily as they were before Iraq for example.

    • ANSWER:
The fact that people believed it without doing any research doesn't give me much hope for the future of the human race.

  10. QUESTION:
Is there going to be another Star Wars Film?
I was just wondering if there is going to be another film so i can tell my friends.

    • ANSWER:
Short answer: not a chance in hell. The story that Lucas wanted to tell has been told.

Long answer: "Devlin B." is very wrong when he says that "The whole series, which was two trilogies(6 movies), is over."

In truth, when Lucas first put pencil to paper there were 12 episodes of the story. The simple fact is that the 6 movie saga we have now bares very, very, VERY little resemblance to the story that Lucas started out with. Over the years there have been 1000s of changes made to the story of Star Wars but there were two massive ones, the decision to combine the characters of Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader into one and making Leia the "other Skywalker", that in effect eliminated 6 of the movies. After combining things to cut the episode number down to 9 the series was supposed to be told as follows: the first trilogy was to be about the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker, the second trilogy was to be about the rise of Luke Skywalker and the redemption of Anakin Skywalker, the third trilogy was to be about "the other Skywalker" that Yoda spoke of in ep V. The combining of the characters of Vader and Anakin had ripple effects throughout the whole story line and making Leia the "other Skywalker" eliminated the third trilogy.

Even though there won't be any more new Star Wars movies coming out all 6 movies will returning to the big screen at least one more time. Lucas has confirmed that they are working on making a true 3-D version of the saga. Target date for that release is summer of 2012. The Clone Wars animated series will soon start its second season on the cartoon network and looks to have a long run for its future. Lucas is also working on a live action TV series. This series will be set between ep III and ep IV. It will not feature the more well known "major characters" ... IE: Vader, Palpatine, etc ... instead the series will focus on the minor characters who first formed the Rebel Alliance and tell the story of how the Rebel Alliance was formed and their early battles against the Empire leading up to the events of ep IV.

  11. QUESTION:
Why is Spartacus: Gods of the Arena ending after only 6 episodes?
I just saw the preview for the next episode and it said season finale. Thats kinda a short season.

    • ANSWER:
It's just a prequel mini series for Spartacus: Blood and Sand. The only reason they made it in the first place was because filming for the second season was delayed due to Andy Whitfield's cancer diagnosis.

Now he has been replaced by Liam McIntyre for the role of Spartacus, and season two will air in early 2012.

  12. QUESTION:
Any good, soft topic for short indie filmmaking?
I am an indian. 17 yrs old. Interest in filmmaking. No experience! All ingredients ready. Only script remains. Plz suggest any soft and rare topic/story so that i can make a short film on it. Very low budget. Only talent and no elder actors. Actors of my age only. Plz help 10 pts for best answer.!

    • ANSWER:
Rewrite and re-do west side story (redone Romeo and Juliet) using Indian background?
Analog sf has some stories set in this world. My obsession: Ernseto in March 2012 issue. Short, must be rewritten to avoid copyright and to set it in an Indian setting, and to lower the age of the people involved. It is a war time story about disease and cures.
Generally you will have to rewrite for India and age. So you can take any short story that does not have special effects and do it.
      KIpling's Kim??
And any play is good. You might like to pay the royalities and go legit.
The problem of using an existing story as is, is that the original writer will try to sue if you make any money or fame off of it.
So go promote some village story or legend that the west has not heard of, use the greek 3 parts of a story, and/or find someone who can write, and write the screen play.

Old, out of copyright stuff is best.

  13. QUESTION:
How to get into acting in Australia?
I'm a 16 year old girl from Australia. I have wanted to be an actress since I was 7, but only now have I had the chance to actually do it. I started acting in October 2012, I have been an extra in 3 short/feature films and 1 minor speaking role. I have auditioned for other stuff but not been cast. :(
I realise that I have to gain experience through theatre, but if I want to move to NYC when I am 19 to do a Bachelor of Theatre, can I still audition for film work in NYC even with a thick theatre resume?
Also, is the Bachelor of Theatre looked as highly upon as the Bachelor of Fine Arts?
Also, how can I get into acting in Australia? I mean, there's basically no acting auditions online, and the fee if you get cast in theatre is very expensive. Most if not all of the acting agencies are rip-offs and scams and make you pay hundreds of dollars.
How can I get into acting?

    • ANSWER:
GO TO auditions in Melboure, Sydny or victoria. they have 130+ EVERY DAY! and they're running ALL day.

  14. QUESTION:
Does anybody know anything more about the Pet Semetary remake?
I already heard George Clooney COULD be playing Lewis Creed but they don't sound like it's a guarantee yet.

Also, I heard someone say ( maybe they were lying ) that Stephen King showed a short preview of it during a commercial of one of his movies. Anyone know about this?

    • ANSWER:
Well, according to IMDB, it's set for 2012, but is listed as "in production". They haven't started any filming (there's not a cast yet). So, if they haven't filmed anything, I doubt there was any preview. I think it sucks that they're going to remake it. There is NOTHING wrong with the original.

  15. QUESTION:
what movies are appropriate for ESL classes?
I need some short movie clips or cartoons for junior high students. Their ability is in the 1,000 to 2,000 word level. I can't use any "Donald Duck" voices. A 8 or 10 minute clip would be perfect. Nor more than 15 minutes long.

    • ANSWER:
Check out Phillips Cinema Parallel Lines. They are three minute "films" that have a very limited dialogue (and they all share the same dialogue)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpF8RnZ-JQI is an example (although appropriate for college students, not OK for elementary...depending on where you are it may be OK) but there are TONS more like this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRMcPJrWm-g had me BAWLING. I use it even though it is in German to get my students to focus on the actions (we then use it to practice summarizing, participle phrases etc.) and they have to read the subtitles (so a bit of reading practice, not normal for a movie).

http://eslcarissa.blogspot.mx/2012/09/top-6-reasons-i-like-moonflower-in_18.html is longer, but you could divy it up and show only 10 minutes per day

www.snagfilms.com/films/ also has some great shorts yu can browse (http://www.snagfilms.com/films/browse/) by time, fiction or non-fiction

http://www.whiteother.com/The-Film has Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) and Imelda Staunton (Dolores Umbridge) so your students will like that they can recognize the actors. It is about 11 minutes, but they do have their accents (which I think is great for teaching variety, but some students may not be ready for it)

  16. QUESTION:
What is this Kony 2012 thing and why should I care?
I have absolutely no idea what's going on.
I have to work I don't have time to watch a documentary. I have time to check this periodically.

    • ANSWER:
Kony is a warlord in Uganda, and is an especially evil guy. What makes him different is that he uses children - boys he turns into child soldiers and girls into prostitutes. He's been doing this for 20 years. An American decided to make a short film for YouTube telling this story, in the hopes that the increased publicity will flush out Kony so he can be killed or captured. Your question shows that the publicity part is working.

He did his schooling from Sainik School Tilaya,[3] Koderma district and Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, Bokaro Steel City (Jharkhand). Later, he joined Ramjas College, Delhi University to do B.Sc (Hons) in Physics; though he left studies after one year,[4] and decided to go to Bombay and become a painter, though while he was preparing for J.J. School of Arts, he happen to witness the shooting of the film Dharma and got hooked on to filmmaking.

Soon he joined the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune in 1973, to do a course in editing, though midway through it, the institution was closed for while, due to student agitation, so he came to Bombay, and started working, and never went back to complete the course.[5]

During this period he made some highly politically charged documentaries, like the one of 'Bihar Sharif riots', titled, Faces After Storm (1984), which received considerable attention, as it was banned within 4–5 days of its released[5] though later it won the National Film Award for Best Non-Feature Film for the year.

  18. QUESTION:
What proof Is there that the World WON'T end In 2012?
I know everything about the Mayan Calendar theory but how come they predicted World War 1, the rise of Hitler and a Boxing Day thing and they ALL happened. Also, the film '2012', said that there would be tremors, this happened, and that New York would flood, this happened. If the World wasn't going to end then how did all of this come true?

Please answer what I have stated above and yes I am already aware of NASA saying that It won't, so there's no need to send me the link, although people say that NASA are lying because they work for the Government.

    The main questions I would like people to answer are;

    - How Is the World meant to end on the 21st of December, 2012
    - What time Is the World meant to end on the 21st of December, 2012
    - How did all of this stuff come true If people are saying that the World won't end
    - Why do you think the World won't end on the 21st of December, 2012

    • ANSWER:
The only thing that is going to happen on 21 Dec is the Solstice, which happens twice a year, 21 or 22 Dec and again on 21 or 22 June.

A solstice is an astronomical event that occurs twice each year as the Sun reaches its highest or lowest excursion relative to the celestial equator on the celestial sphere.

The Solstice will occur at 21 Dec 11:12 GMT

December 21st (United States) the Winter Solstice, the Shortest day of the year.
December 22nd (Australia) The Summer Solstice, the Longest day of the year.

More details about the Solstice can be found on this web site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solstice

All of the Doomsday stories are a hoax, a fraud, and an absolute con job. It is a cruel and disgusting lie being promoted by scam artists after money. The 21 Dec Hoax is centred around the Mayan Calender. The Maya actually never made a single prediction related to an apocalypse. The Mayan Calender is only one on a long list of Doomsday events.
Planet X, or Nibiru > Does not exist.
      There is no Galactic Alignment.
There will be NO 3 days of Darkness.
      There is no Proton Belt.
The Magnetic Poles are NOT shifting.

This web page has a list of all of them: http://www.2012hoax.org

Don’t believe what I am telling you?? Just Wait until 25 Dec and email me. I will be here having a good laugh at all the morons and idiots.

  19. QUESTION:

    • ANSWER:
Yeah its on holiday break like alot of other shows are now . But, your date is wrong, its the 5th of january so its a bit sooner. And yes Ian does have an injury of a torn alc so he is trying to heal but the awesome guy he is, they are currently filming episodes and we as viewers and fans will see him kick butt as damon and he is in pain but he continues to work because he doesnt want to disappoint us fans. 20. QUESTION:
What did you think of the new les miserables adaptation?
Other than the liberties that were taken with the story, and eddie redmayne's singing, I thought it was pretty well done.

    • ANSWER:
It was nothing short of incredible and moving and beautiful. I love the stellar cast, the acting, the score, the portrayal of French history and its streets as well as war, everything.

Every minute of the film was emotionally powerful and kept me engaged. I teared at some parts. Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman's characters were my absolute favourites. Just when I thought the film couldn't get better, it wraps with an ending so perfect, I don't even have the right words to describe it.

Definitely one of the few films of 2012 that actually made an impression on me.

  21. QUESTION:
why did Jason Russell have a huge emotional breakdown?
Jason Russell ran naked along the streets of San Diego, people says it was from stress and criticism. Why would people have anything against him for doing such a great thing like Kony 2012?

    • ANSWER:
There are all sorts of conditions that can cause a person to become overwhelmed: natural disasters, loss of a loved one, disease or violence. Circumstances can spiral so completely out of control it's as if life itself has been hijacked and the person is merely along for the ride, clinging desperately to any scrap of normalcy. Sometimes, the person loses hold of that grip completely. Losing your grip happens all the time, altering the course of individual lives and families. Usually, the chaotic cyclone of a breakdown is relatively contained. Last week, however, it appears one of these went viral.

Jason Russell, co-founder of the organization Invisible Children and director of the documentary "Kony 2012" was detained by police in his hometown of San Diego and hospitalized. The initial reports I saw were salacious and, thus, captivating; Russell was reportedly running into traffic, naked, possibly masturbating, possibly making sexual gestures, possibly vandalizing cars. TMZ posted a 12-second video, purported to be Russell, naked, apparently pounding the sidewalk at a neighborhood intersection.

Ben Keesey, the CEO of Invisible Children, put out a statement saying, "Jason Russell was unfortunately hospitalized yesterday suffering from exhaustion, dehydration and malnutrition. He is now receiving medical care and is focused on getting better. The past two weeks have taken a severe emotional toll on all of us, Jason especially, and that toll manifested itself in an unfortunate incident yesterday..." What happened in the past two weeks that took such a severe emotional toll that it led to Jason Russell becoming exhausted, dehydrated and malnourished? Fame, or its sometimes noxious counterparts, success and notoriety.

Two weeks ago, Invisible Children released the "Kony 2012" documentary directed and narrated by Russell, outlining the decades-long atrocities committed by Joseph Kony, a warlord and leader of a Ugandan guerilla group called the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA). The documentary urges global action on April 20 to call attention to Kony and demand he turn himself in to the International Criminal Court to be tried for crimes against humanity, especially against tens of thousands of children, abducted and turned into soldiers or sex slaves. Since the documentary's release, it has gone viral over YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. In short, the video did what it was supposed to do -- harness the power of social media to advance awareness.

The awareness was supposed to focus on Joseph Kony. Spotlights, however, cast a very large beam. It wasn't long before Jason Russell and Invisible Children got caught up in the glare of public scrutiny. Criticism began to surface about how the money raised by the organization was being spent. Some people called the efforts "neo-colonial," upset with gun-toting whites charging in to save defenseless blacks, deriding a "savior attitude." Not only did Joseph Kony come under fire, but so did Jason Russell and Invisible Children.

Danica Russell, Jason's wife, said "We thought a few thousand people would see the film, but in less than a week, millions of people around the world saw it. While that attention was great at raising awareness about Joseph Kony, it also brought a lot of attention to Jason -- and, because of how personal the film is, many of the attacks against it were also very personal, and Jason took them very hard."

One of those attacks was that the film was over-simplified. Invisible Children again put out a statement: "In our quest to garner wide public support of nuanced policy, Invisible Children has sought to explain the conflict in an easily understandable format ... In a 30-minute film, however, many nuances of the 26-year conflict are admittedly lost or overlooked."

I can only hope that those quick to condemn Jason Russell will withhold their judgment just a little longer and do a bit more digging, at least to a greater depth than 140 characters. There are also nuances to public exposure of private pain that should not be lost or overlooked by any of us in a viral rush to judgment.

My life ambition is to apply what I love to do professionally in a career.

    • ANSWER:
      That's a good personal statement :)
It would be better if you got rid of the American spellings, the ampersands (&) and rather arbitary use of capitalisation - some tutors get pretty offended by such things 😉
Otherwise, I'm left with the impression of a hard-working person with a serious interest in film - which basically ticks the main boxes

  23. QUESTION:
What did you think of les miserables movie?
I'm off to see les miserables movie today so please could you tell me what you thought of the movie? PLEASE NO SPOILERS, Thank you!

Definitely one of the few films of 2012 that actually made an impression on me

  24. QUESTION:
How do I audition to be a walker on The Walking Dead?
The title basically says. I've been acting my whole life, although I haven't had the opportunity to do anything big where I live. This is something that I've been wanting to do since I first saw the show. Is there any special training I would have to go through, and when and where do they audition? Don't give me any stupid answers, please.

    • ANSWER:
The Walking Dead is filmed in Atlanta and the zombies are cast by a local extras agency. From what I understand 1000's of people applied to be extras in the Atlanta area when they where shooting. Normally, only locals are used because this is for an extra role which means minimum wage and shoots at short notice, sometimes only 1 day notice. The show seems to shoot during early summer, or at least they did in 2010 and 2011. So it should be coming up shortly for 2012

here is the season 2 casting call. http://blogs.ajc.com/the-buzz/2011/06/23/the-walking-dead-needs-extras/

they used the same email for season 1 as well

  25. QUESTION:
Is it in the best interest of the liberals or conservatives that Romney win the republican nomination ?

    Mr. S,
Since you have a greater intellect than the average democrat, please elaborate on your answer just a little so we can be enlighten.

    • ANSWER:
      Well, the short answer is "yes". You see, the democrat national committee thinks that Obama could most easily beat Romney because Obama is stating that he took alot of what is now Obamacare from Romneycare;
In fact, is a matter of record that Romney DID have meetings with the White House about Obamacare, and one of those meetings including pres Obama himself.

Since Obama has absolutely nothing to run on, no positive record whatsoever, his only hope is to run against Romney and beat him over the Romneycare issue. The other hopes Obama has is that he can get the latino vote by fighting any state or individual that keeps illegals from not only sneaking into America, but also by giving them freebies that American citizens are not even near entitled to receive.

The third hope of Obama is what he did in 2008, with a combination of voter fraud via Acorn who IS STILL VERY MUCH IN EXISTANCE BUT OPERATING UNDER SEVERAL DIFFERENT NAMES AND STILL RECEIVING MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF MONEY FROM THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION, and also one other thing Obama had done for 2008: He got vans and literally went to every large city, found half-drunk, withdrawling drug abusers, mentally ill people living on the street, etc.....and he put them in the van, telling them they would get a coke and a hoagie or some money for a bottle of whiskey, or clinic clearance to get methadone, whatever they needed, if only they took a short ride to the voter booth and pushed the right button with the help of an Obama worker.
Some of the people had no idea what they were even doing. This is a matter of record, not something I am dreaming up, unfortunately.
Several nursing homes with elderly and mentally ill (including dementia and Altzeimers) were taken in van-fulls to the voting booths. One lady found out her mother was one of them and literally had a fit publically but the mainstream media shut her up real fast. Her mother was so far into the last stage of Altzeimers that she would not have known what to do unless someone literally took her hand and put it on the "Obama button", otherwise she would not have been able to do it. All this was done in nursing homes across America. This is where much of the Obama campaign money went, and this is why Obama needs to raise so much money this time around. All they need to have is a nurse on staff before 8pm who is a democrat and will allow it. The poor old folks and mental patients think nothing of it, they think they are just getting a nice little ride for fresh air.

Its despicable, and its about to happen again. Obama will go to unheard of lengths to retain power and gain more power if he can. He cares nothing about you, nothing about the people. The only job Obama wants to save is his own.

Keep your eyes wide open at voter stations and if your family member is at any nursing facility, be there on election day and keep your eyes open. There is nothing we can do about them picking bums up off the street and bribing them with the promise of drugs and alcohol, because it cannot be proven, although we know it because film was taken back in 2008 showing it happen in Philadelphia, NYC, and several other large cities.

Also, expect this time to see the Black Panthers threatening you once again if you live near Philly. Remember they were arrested for threats at the voting station in Philly? They were found guilty and before sentencing, Eric Holder with the blessings of Obama, THREW OUT ALL CHARGES AND DISMISSED THE CASE. The Panthers were told by a judge that still they had a sentence, and this is it: THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED NEAR A PRESIDENTIAL VOTING BOOTH UNTIL THE YEAR 2012. Thats when the next election is, so what a joke, huh? This is what you get when you vote in liberals. We have a mess that will take years to repeal and roll back so that America still resembles something we call America.

  26. QUESTION:
Do you want to see a BioShock movie?
Would you want to see a movie based on the game BioShock? Would you want it to be a short film made by the company, or a series made be fans? Live action, or CG? Also, when does Bioshock infinite come out?

    • ANSWER:
Yes. I would not want it to be made by the company or fans. (I would want the director to be a fan, of course). But I would want it to be a high-budget, full-length feature.

I would want it to be live action with CG, and I would want it to be directed by Zack Snyder, because I know he would do an amazing job. If not Snyder, then J.J. Abrams.

Bioshock Infinite comes out 2012, no official release date has been given yet.

  27. QUESTION:
What should I wear to a job Interview?
I recently made a interview day with a manager at an AMC theater for the film crew position.
    1. Should I wear nice pants, a nice shirt and a tie to the interview? (or go semi formal casual, button up shirt and jeans)
    2. Anyone know the kind of interview questions they will ask? (based on experience)
    3. Any tips, advice?

I held a job as a gas station clerk but I was hired through a family friend so I practically skipped the interview part. This will be my first actual job interview. Any advice

    • ANSWER:
The response on interview attire wear nice dress black pant, long sleeve white shirt or pale color, tie, dress closed black shoes. Goggle AMC main website to find out i.e. how long in business, # of locations, hours of operation, their AMV Stub Card card and benefits etc. Arrive 15 minutes prior to interview, smile and shake hands and have a upbeat friendly personality. Below are a few AMC interviews various locations shared by people who applied. Good Luck!!

Film Crew at AMC Entertainment Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Orange, CA Oct 2012–
Interview Details –I I was asked couple of questions, hours willing to work, if I have tattoos showing etc.,then she invited me to do a group interview .I dressed in business casual and arrived 15 minutes early. There ended up being about 8 people total , I ended up being a bit overdressed compared to most everyone else, but hopefully that's what got me hired. The Manager and who was going to be my Supervisor greeted us.. The Manager explained that they usually did group interviews, but since our group was small he would do 1:1 interviews. He handed us AMC Stubs Rewards pamphlets and told us to review, assigned an "interview time" by just going down the list of everyone who signed in and separating each in 15 minute increments.

When my turn, went in and he and Supervisor reviewed past job and asked questions, told me to ask any questions I wanted. He then asked about a time or reward I was proud of, what would I do to make a busy time at work go smoothly, a time when I've had to wait in a long line, and when I've been to a dirty restaurant After that, we did a quick roleplay where I had to sell them the AMC Stubs card, and that wasn't too hard. I basically gave them the facts about it, she mentioned she doesn't go to the movies often, so I had to sell it to her like that too. After that they said it was done, and that I could leave. If I got the job they would call me that night, if I didn't I wouldn't get one. I got a call about 3 hours later and that was it.
Interview Question –Describe a time you had to wait in a long line/describe a time when you went to a dirty restaurant. They weren't exactly difficult questions...

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Burlington, WA Oct 2012– Reviewed Oct 18, 2012
Interview Details (Do you have any visible tattoos?, What's your availability?, Are you able to lift X amount of pounds? etc.).. When I got to the theater the person at the box office asked me to have a seat in the lobby and go over some info packet made for the interviewees. The packet consisted general info of being employed at AMC , position info (film crew, cashier, usher) and AMC Stubs card. After greeting managers went into break room to begin interview. I was asked the general questions found here again (What was one time you waited in a long line? How did you deal with that?, What was one time you went into a dirty restaurant? How did you deal with that?, What's a way to better improve long lines and speed things up? etc.). After the question was over and we had a couple of general short conversations I was asked to perform the dreaded AMC Stubs scenario. The scenario consisted of "How would you sell a AMC Stubs card to someone who doesn't go to the movies often?", the scenario wasn't hard because you had the chance to read about the card before the interview and you're given the packet again when the scenario is asked of you. That was last question/scenario of the interview and we shook hands and left at good byes.

Crew Member at AMC Entertainment Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Riverside, CA
Interview Details –First we were given a group interview. During the group interview, it wasn't really much of an interview, but instead we popcorn read what's expected of the positions that are at AMC. I volunteered first to read so that gave me some good points. After finishing reading over the expectations and standards, they asked us one question at the end and that was, "When was a time you've visited a dirty restaurant and how did you react?" After that, we were free to go and they'd give a call back for a second interview. When I came in for my second interview, I was getting interviewed by two of the managers. Questions: "When was a time that you had to stand in a long line and how would you have handled it?" "Describe an experience when you had to work with someone you didn't know?" "What was one of your greatest achievements"? What was the last movie you saw? What is your favorite movie and why? And lastly, they asked you to roleplay selling an AMC Stubs. They're not so harsh with the AMC stubs, just make sure you know the benefits, it shouldn't be too hard.

  28. QUESTION:
What could I do to help more with the stop Kony movement?
I've always wanted to be a philanthropist, but didn't know how to do it. The rescue kits are sold out and I want to help more in some way, for a couple months i've been wanting to go on a teens volunteer abroad trip, but I'm only 14 so my parents think I'm too young plus it's really expensive. I don't just want to help with the stop Kony movement I want to help with all kinds of causes. So any ideas?

    • ANSWER:
For starters, you can not buy into everything you read.
That 30 min. film is nothing short of an infomercial designed to make you "ACT NOW!"

Kony 2012 wants two things: Your money and troops in Uganda. Has it occurred to you that there are political interests involved?

Kony 2012 was a nice try, but short lived. As we speak, the internet is dissecting this little piece of propoganda and it will be over in a matter of days.

  29. QUESTION:
What would result in the Federal Reserve being nationalized?

I read the link you posted. So all the profit the Federal Reserve makes off loaning money to the banks goes back to the government?
So why all this animosity towards the Federal Reserve if it doesn't even keep its profits except for what it requires?

    • ANSWER:
Nothing, since it is not private. At least it isn't private in the way that you think it is. The Federal Reserve is an independent, quasi-governmental agency with both public and private parts. However, monetary policy decisions are all performed by the Federal Open Market Committee which is under the direct control of the Board of Governors which is not private in any way.

For more information on the structure of the Federal Reserve, see my answer at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ak1e6jjijfAVJRf7csVWV6Pty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20120125093127AA87est

EDIT: Yes. All net profits of the Federal Reserve are paid to the U.S. Treasury every year. Out of the revenues of the Federal Reserve, it pays for its expenses of operation, a small dividend to the member banks (approximately .5 billion total), and adjustment to a surplus fund which matches the amount contributed by the member banks for their subscription. Everything left over after that is paid to the U.S. Treasury.

EDIT: Most of the animosity towards the Federal Reserve is fed partly by conspiracy theory nonsense and partly by general ignorance about how the Fed works and is structured. It also doesn't help when certain politicians use sound bites to make things sound worse than it is in order to play into the fears of voters who are not knowledgeable about facts.

EDIT: Do you see what I mean about people not understanding the structure of the Federal Reserve? The other answer has posted what amounts to conspiracy theory nonsense. The Federal Reserve DOES NOT loan money to the government. In fact, it is PROHIBITED BY LAW from doing so. The government borrows money by issuing Treasury securities which are sold at auction. Anyone may buy these securities at the auction, even you and even the conspiracy theorist. The Federal Reserve may only buy the securities that it hold on the open market which is where investors trade securities that were previously auctioned.

If a person wants to learn about the Federal Reserve, read a book written by a RESPECTED economist. G. Edward Griffin, the author of "The Creature from Jekyll Island", has a degree in communications and believes in all types of nonsense like laetril and other conspiracy theory idiocy. There are so many things wrong in his book that it is impossible to list it all here.

"The American Dream" film is also nonsense. For a start on what they got wrong, see my answer at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ar.GUDhjnImJyKvy9RxXiuPty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20120406125130AAPmaUP

In short, if you want to learn about the Federal Reserve, take a college course or read a college textbook on the topic. Any moron can make a video and post it on the Internet, that doesn't mean the moron knows WTF he is talking about.

EDIT 4/20/2012: "Much of the money the Federal Reserve makes from loaning money to the banks goes to the private global banking cartel." WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. As required by law, all net profit of the Federal Reserve is paid to the U.S. Treasury. This can clearly be seen on the independently audited financial statements of the Federal Reserve which are public record. Of course, if certain people would learn to get their information from RELIABLE sources, they would know this. Nonsense is still nonsense regardless of how many times ignorant people repeat it on the Internet.

BTW, reliable or respected sources are considered that because they have the education and experience within the field and are highly regarded by others within the field. These people know the law or other primary sources within their field of expertise and actually work in the field. OTOH, NON-reliable sources, like "The Creature from Jekyll Island" not only are NOT respected sources within the field, but errors can be easily found within the sources simply by referencing the law. It isn't nonsense because I say it is nonsense. It is nonsense because it makes claims that are not supported by the law or reality.

  30. QUESTION:
How can I make my Youtube account more popular?
The pool of singer/songwriters on Youtube is huge. How can I help increase the popularity of my channel?

    Thanks in advance!

    • ANSWER:
Quality content is the surefire way to get more traction and attention. A lot of YouTube "musicians" record on their iPhone, with no music, or a poor setup. You can stand out by coming across as professional as possible.

First off, you're a musician, so sound quality should trump all other aspects of your channel. I would rather listen to a good quality song with just a picture than actually seeing you on a low grade camera. It's sad, but it's just the way the mind works. Not saying you should strive for this, but if high quality video is not an option, go with this. But I would advise getting good quality video after you sort out the audio quality.

You can try to seek out someone to record you. Granted, studio sessions are expensive. But I guarantee there are musicians in your school, college, or local area that know how to record and will do tracks for relatively cheap. It helps you out, and helps them out. You'd be surprised what people can do in a home studio. Since you are just getting started, this is probably your most viable option. If you're a musician, I guarantee you know others in your area. Ask around about their recording methods and see if you can find someone to assist you. Sound quality is your primary goal.

The other option is to buy yourself a simple setup and do it yourself. The only drawbacks to this is cost, inexperience, and time invested to learn sound production. But you could get by with a USB mic from Best Buy, and a medium grade sound program like Sound Forge from Sony. You could get some solid room recordings out of it, and with a little more effort, you could do separate tracks and make something that sounds a little more professional.

Second on the list is video quality. I did mention it before. Again, if you do not have the means to get a good quality camera: Beg, borrow, everything short of steal to get one. There are some good options for cheaper that are aimed more at bloggers than musicians. Like some of the Kodak blogger cameras that run about . They are a cheap alternative if it's all you can get. But I would try to get the best quality you can. Either by investing in a good camera or finding someone to film you. A basic music video always sells. It's share able, good quality, and looks professional.

Remember, good quality content is the key.

Next up, just work on your image overall. Make a YouTube layout, have a good profile picture, and make custom thumbnails for your videos. Maybe make a Facebook page to help share yourself and announce things to people who listen to you. Such as show dates, new videos, new songs, an EP release, or anything of the sort.

As far as sharing yourself, here are a few pointers:

Take advantage of social media. Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, anything you can drop a link on and it get shared. This helps build a fanbase and you can use your army of friends and family to help spread it beyond your reach alone.

Take advantage of what is trending on YouTube. When a new album from a famous musician comes out, people always search for the tracks or lyric videos online. It is a cheap method, but you can try to tag those albums in so you turn up in more searches/related videos. Also, "New Music 2012" and such is always searched. Take advantage of what people are looking for.

If you get some good recordings, maybe take 1 or 2, and make them royalty free on YouTube. Go to video makers and say "Hey I have a couple songs you can use in your video if you ever need". Or contact people directly and ask to do a mutual shoutout if they use your music. Your music reaches their audience and will help to build yours. Do you know how many videos have songs that the comments beg to know "What song is that at 3:13 in the video?" You could be that song people are dying to know about. It helps both you out and the person you contacted.

AdWords by Google really is powerful if you want to spend some money. It just shares your video with people, and you can adjust what videos it advertises next to. I use it, and it helps.

IF you need any more information about the information we talked about, contact me on YouTube. I make videos for all video related questions, and my friend who helps me is really talented at recording music. We can help you on all fronts!

  36. QUESTION:
why african americans becoming influenced so easily by television?
I see a rapper grabs himself on TV while singing, the next thing you know all black men when walking or dancing grab themselves or like walking cool that was in fashion many years ago.

    • ANSWER:
It's not just African Americans, it's all Americans who are influenced by what ever they watch on television or in films. Sadly their are quite a large percentage of Americans who naively believe what they see on television is true or fact.

Like with the 2012 garbage they are constantly showing only on American television and no where else in the world.

Also their are many Americans who are global armchair critics, thinking they know all about the world from what they seen on a television set. Even though they never owned a passport or foreign traveled outside the United States.

Over seas we find it a odd how, short lived 20 years ago fad fashions as Goth, Punk and Emo most are parents wore in the 80's, is popular in the USA in 2009. So are Rave party's which died in the early 90's globally, are now popular their country.

I believe many young American men who get influenced by a rap artist, is due to the lack of social male bonding. Being raised by a single female parent and having only female teachers, with no male role models in their lives. So they model themselves on male role models they see on television.

  45. QUESTION:
How do the film age ratings in America work?
    Was just a bit curious

    • ANSWER:
Prior to 1968, some large cities and states had public rating boards which determined whether films were suitable for display to the public in theatres. The United States Supreme Court in the case of Freedman v. Maryland 380 U.S. 51 (1965) effectively ended government operated rating boards when it decided that a rating board could only approve a film; it had no power to ban a film. A rating board must either approve a film within a reasonable time, or it would have to go to court to stop a film from being shown in theatres. Other court cases decided that since television stations are federally licensed, local rating boards have no jurisdiction over films shown on television. When the movie industry set up its own rating system, most state and local boards ceased operating.

      Ratings
See also: TV Parental Guidelines, Entertainment Software Rating Board, and Film Advisory Board
In the United States, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), through the Classification and Rating Administration (CARA), issues ratings for movies. The system was instituted in November 1968 and is voluntary; however, most movie theater chains will not show unrated domestic films and most major studios have agreed to submit all titles for rating prior to theatrical release. Most films will have the MPAA insignia at the end of the closing credits. Earlier films that had full opening credits such as The Poseidon Adventure would bear the insignia in the opening.

The ratings (as of 2012) are:

      AC - Adult content
      AL - Adult Language
G – General Audiences – All Ages Admitted. There is no content that would be objectionable to most parents. These films may contain mildly rude language (i.e., a character saying "Shut up!") but no swearing. As with violence it must be mild and minimal, if any, without any blood or gore. This is one of only two ratings dating back to 1968 that still exists today.
      N - Nudity
PG – Parental Guidance Suggested – Some Material May Not Be Suitable For Children. These films are generally inappropriate for young children and may contain milder swear words, crude or suggestive humor, short and infrequent horror moments and/or mild violence. Usually no drug use is acceptable in this category, except for tobacco smoking (though this is being phased out due to anti-smoking protests that target television shows and films for condoning and glamorizing smoking). Topless men may be present but topless women are not usually acceptable unless in an educational or scientific context or if the nudity is only shown briefly. A few racial insults may also be heard. Before the creation of PG-13, many "PG" films (e.g. Jaws and Watership Down) included explicit bloody violence. Content such as this helped lead to the creation of the "PG-13" rating.

  46. QUESTION:
Can someone tell me brief history of Falkland Islands War and why it started?
WHy did the mini short war between Argentina and the United Kingdom started over the falkland islands?

    • ANSWER:
he Falklands War (Spanish: Guerra de las Malvinas or Guerra del Atlántico Sur), also known as the Falklands Conflict or Falklands Crisis, was a 1982 limited war between Argentina and the United Kingdom. The conflict resulted from the long-standing dispute over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands and South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, which lie in the South Atlantic, east of Argentina.

The Falklands War began on Friday 2 April 1982, when Argentine forces invaded and occupied the Falkland Islands and South Georgia. The British government dispatched a naval task force to engage the Argentine Navy and Air Force, and retake the islands by amphibious assault. The resulting conflict lasted 74 days and ended with the Argentine surrender on 14 June 1982, which returned the islands to British control. 649 Argentine military personnel, 255 British military personnel and three Falkland Islanders died during the conflict. It remains the most recent external conflict to be fought by the UK without any allied states and the only external Argentine war since the 1880s.

The conflict was the result of a protracted historical confrontation regarding the sovereignty of the islands. Argentina has asserted that the Falkland Islands are Argentinian territory since the 19th century and, as of 2012, shows no sign of relinquishing the claim.[5][6][7] The claim was added to the Argentine constitution after its reformation in 1994.[8] As such, the Argentine government characterised their initial invasion as the re-occupation of its own territory, whilst the British government saw it as an invasion of a British dependent territory. However, neither state officially declared war and hostilities were almost exclusively limited to the territories under dispute and the local area of the South Atlantic.

The conflict had a strong impact in both countries. Patriotic sentiment ran high in Argentina, but the outcome prompted large protests against the ruling military government, which hastened its downfall. In the United Kingdom, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher's government was bolstered by the successful outcome, although its level of support fell in the 1983 general election. The war has played an important role in the culture of both countries, and has been the subject of several books, films, and songs. Over time, the cultural and political weight of the conflict has had less effect on the British public than on that of Argentina, where the war is still a topic of discussion.[9]

Relations between the United Kingdom and Argentina were restored in 1989 under the umbrella formula which states that the islands' sovereignty dispute would remain aside.[citation needed]

  48. QUESTION:
when is the third season of code geass coming out?
when is r3 coming? how many episodes will it have and who will be in it?

    • ANSWER:
There is no 3rd season of Code Geass. I don't know why people keep calling it R3, but thats incorrect. There are three upcoming Code Geass related animes, two are OVAs and one is a film.

The one most people are talking about is 'Boukoku no Akito', which is a side story OVA coming out sometime this year. This OVA will have new main characters. It won't be the old cast, though they may appear seeing how it still takes place in the same time frame as the original series did. An episode count has not been released so it could very well be shorter than a typical season (less than twelve episodes), but who knows.
      http://myanimelist.net/anime/8888/

The next is a spin off called "Nunnally in Wonderland". There isn't too much information about this one right now except for that the first episode will air on July 27.
      http://myanimelist.net/anime/12685/Code_Geass:_Nunnally_in_Wonderland

And then there is a movie which was announced last month. Again, very little information so far.
