Lesley Ann Warren plays the title role in this television production of the classic Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein III musical. Cinderella (Warren) is a sweet and pretty young woman who has been given a poor hand by fate; her stepmother (Jo Van Fleet) treats her cruelly, and while her graceless sisters are invited to a royal ball, Cinderella is not allowed to attend. But her Fairy Godmother (Celeste Holm) has other plans, and Cinderella attends the ball, where she makes a tremendous impression upon the Prince (Stuart Damon). But her Godmother's magic only works until midnight, and Cinderella is forced to leave the festivities at their height; will she ever see the Prince again? And how will he ever find her? This was the second television production of this musical version of the classic fairy tale; the original 1957 version featured a young Julie Andrews in the lead. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

What are the different type of Cinderella Plays/Musicals? NOT MOVIES?
My school announced the musical for next year is Cinderella but its a somewhat different version our school has already let out and i don't know how to get in contact with they theater teacher. What are the different types of plays

    • ANSWER:
When I searched Find A Play ( I found three different stagings of Cinderella as a musical. The previous poster is right that the most commonly performed staging is the Rodgers and Hammerstein version, which was actually written for tv, specifically as a star vehicle for Julie Andrews. It was later done again with Leslie Ann Warren in the title role (which is the one many people are most familiar with) and then most recently with Brandy as Cinderella, Whitney Houston as the Fairy Godmother, Whoopi Goldberg as the Queen and Jason Alexander as the King (There were a couple other well known people in it, but I can't remember who they were) Although it was originally written as a tv movie, it is the one most schools produce.

However, as I said before, it's not the only musical version for the stage out there, Dramatic Publishing lists a couple of others: one with a book by Phyllis Ward Fox. Music and lyrics by David Coleman and one with book and lyrics by Moses Goldberg. Music by Ewel Cornett. (which is also available as a non-musical) Both of those have fairly small casts (10 actors total) and are cheaper to license because they are less well-known. However, the trade-off is that they are less of an audience draw for the same reason!

Unfortunately, the probably doesn't help you in terms of figuring out which one your school is producing. Does the drama department have a website?

    • ANSWER:
A Cinderella Story (Hilary Duff) (Another Cinderella Story with Selena Gomez is the sequel)
      Ever After
The Glass Slipper (only available in VHS form)
If the Shoe Fits (aka A Stroke of Midnight)

There are also three Rodgers and Hammerstein's films about Cinderella: one has Julie Andrews, one has Leslie Ann Warren, and the last one has Brandy. These have singing. Also of note: Jim Henson had a television series in the 80's called The Storyteller. Each episode featured a different fairy tale. One was called "Sapsorrow" and is a little like Cinderella.

I'm not aware of any 60's live action version other than Snow White and The Three Stooges (1961). It didn't follow the traditional story though.

In 1987 there was a musical version called Snow White, starring Diana Rigg.
