Frequently Asked Questions
Does anyone else think the film 2012 was overhyped and not very good?
It really wasn't as good as I thought it'd be. I don't think it was anything above average. I actually think the day after tomorrow is a much better film. The acting is better and the visual effects were more believable.
Pile of shite. Every single scene is stuff everybody has seen a hundred times before in other disaster movies, to the point that i wasn't sure if it was a comedy instead of an action film
what elements determine a film as being classified as a Typical Hollywood film?
What is a Hollywood movie. How is it really different from a documentary or a experimental film? I've seen some of them that actually use actors in it besides regular people.
There's a pretty clear "hero" formula for the "typical Hollywood film" - particularly action/adventure movies, science fiction, dramas, and even (believe it or not) comedies and romantic comedies. The formula goes like this:
1) Main character has a tragic flaw. Some issue or barrier they're dealing with.
2) A crisis or opportunity develops - resulting in a quest
3) There's a car chase or something like that. It involves a pursuit & race.
4) Usually the hero(es) must push through darkness, descend into the earth or sea, or go into foreign/unfamiliar territory.
5) A climactic confrontation happens, where the hero must overcome or conquer their flaw for the greater good (this usually involves a sacrifice of some kind)
6) The hero succeeds, gets the girl/guy/new companion, happy ending, roll the credits
This formula goes all the way back to some of the earliest mythology & fiction (Jonah and the Whale, Beowulf, The Odyssey, etc.) To give some examples of how it applies to Hollywood movies today, look at any Indiana Jones movie. Indy is afraid of snakes, has no spiritual faith, and he's awful at personal relationships (1st movie; ex-girlfriend. 2nd movie; girlfriend. 3rd movie; his father. 4th movie; his own son.) A new artifact crisis happens, there's all kinds of chases, and Indy has to go into caves/tombs/etc. He faces his fears, sacrifices his "prize" (keeping the object/artifact), and overcomes his relationship issues. The village/country/world is saved, happy ending, roll the credits.
Pick any big Hollywood movie and you'll see the formula; Star Wars? Yup. Iron Man? Yup. District 9, Gran Torino, Shrek? Yup. Halloween, Alien, 2012, or Poseidon? Yup. It's A Wonderful Life, Jaws, ET, Something About Mary, Bridget Jones' Diary, Night at the Museum, American Pie, Knocked Up, The Hangover... you'll see the pattern is there almost everywhere you look.
James Campbell called this pattern the "monomyth" and wrote about it in a book called "The Hero With A Thousand Faces." It's a really eye-opening examination of classic stories & literature, and how the model continues today in modern Hollywood films & entertainment.
How good is the movie 2012 & is it good to watch this with your boyfriend?
I just got asked out yesterday, and we're planning on doing something together tomorrow. There's really nothing to do around here except watch a movie. And the only thing that's on right now that I wanna see is like, 2012, I've been wanting to see that. Do you think it's a good movie? He's making me make the choice and that's what I suggested but I don't want it to be a boring movie.
If I asked a girl out and she suggested going to see an action film the next day I'd say I'd got myself a pretty awesome girlfriend. Go for it, if he likes action films with outrageously unrealistic storylines but great special effects (which, let's face it, most boys do) then he'll like 2012. I saw it a few days ago and I'm tempted to go again
Is the Kony 2012 film just to make money for Invisible Children?
I've read couple of sources saying that the film was made professionally just to make you have the impulse of morality and emotion so you naturally "Make Kony Famous" which at the same time "Make Invisible Children" by changing profile pictures, sharing the film and buying Action Kit.
Also, a lot of people says the info that the film provides are outdated and there's more to care about in the world other than Joseph Kony.
I've read that they keep 70% of their donations.
How do effects work in violent and action movies?
Like in I am legend, 2012, inception, and other films that involve massive car accidents, explosions and so on. How do they make it seem so real?
it's really just the digital technology/computer graphics that they use and having brilliant/creative people working on it.
What do you think about the upcoming movies?
I just went to watch G.I. Joe (which sucked) and I saw the advertisements for the movies coming out later on in the future. What do you think about them?
1. Avatar the Last Airbender (live action film)
2. Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
If there are any others, talk about them as well.
I'm excited for "The Lightning Thief" as I loved the book series. Given that M. Night Shyamalan will direct "Avatar", I'm not sure if I wanna see it. 2012 seems so typical to me. Some upcoming films that I'm excited for were "Alice in Wonderland", "District 9", "Inglourious Basterds", "Iron Man 2", etc.
Is there going to me a ouran highschool host club live action movie?
I am obsessed with ouran and many people are saying that there will be a live action movie coming out in march 2012???
Yes, there will be a live-action film.
It will come out March 17, 2012. Here's a trailer and info:
What do people Really think of the New 2012 Dark Knight film?
My personal Opinion is that this movie is very inaccurate and that it doesn't feel like a batman movie at all. Its Like a Giant Action Movie and the Main Character just happens to be dressed up as batman..
Let me know you're Opinions **Keep It Friendly!**
P.S. it's Opinions & predictions people its not that hard to Speculate on an upcoming film.
I have to disagree with you.
Now first of all, Chris Nolan's universe is different from what you might see in cartoons or comics. It is more believable and realistic.
But he captures the essence of Batman so well. Knightfall is probably where they got inspiration for the story where Bane drives Batman to exhaustion and when he gets there, he breaks him, literally.
I think the movie will be fantastic and so far all the reviews have said this movie is phenomenal and many saying that it is Oscar worthy.
What's great about the director, Christopher Nolan, is that he is passionate about film and he doesn't make movies to make money, he does it because he feels like a story is worth telling.
He said himself that he wouldn't make a third Batman movie if he didn't feel like there was a story worth telling. He seriously cares about the movies he makes and the people who watch them.
We will be guaranteed a great story, but still keeping elements that makes the film a Batman film.
We will have to see in 5 days won't we?
What are Hollywood films so expensive?
I mean seriously! Most Amercain film cost normally over 100 million to make. I understand if it's a big action with loads of special effects and everything like 2012 & Transformers but films like Rush Hour 3 and Toys Story 3 have like over 150 million budget.
I see foreign films with less than 10 million budget with 5x more action, explosion and famous actors (Like House Of Flying Daggers)
What do they spend all the stuff on?
A lot of the budget is spend on the actor's salary.
How do I send money to the Kony 2012 Action Program?
When I watched the video for the Kony 2012 thing, it said that I can send money to them to support them to find this evil guy named Kony but they didn't mention the address so does anyone know the address in which i can send the money to or anywhere I can find it?
Do you know where your money will be going if you do send it to them?
70% of it will go to staff wages, transport and advertising. This includes their posters and videos/films - anyone think 11 is a bit excessive?
30% of it will go to efforts to stop Kony. But, these aren't helpful efforts. The money goes to the Ugandan government's army, who don't exactly have a clean reputation of their own - raping, looting and corruption. Their methods to stop Kony are attack him - military intervention against an 'army of children', is this really helping the situation at all?
Every attack on Kony will result in retaliation - more children dying.
This has been going on for years, and a few countries have been trying to stop him, using military intervention.
Raising awareness isn't really helpful. People don't 'care' about this, they see an opportunity to make themselves look good and feel good about themselves. This will be forgotten in a few weeks, and people will go back to making status' on Facebook about how awful and bad their lives are.
But, if you still feel you need to donate money to them, you can do so on their website here: http://s3.amazonaws.com/kony2012/kony-4.html
Before you do so, have a read of this and re-think your decision: http://visiblechildren.tumblr.com/
What is your rating for the 2012 horror film The Apparition?
The film is 1hr 13mins the rest is credits. there is not ,uch action and it's not that scary either.
I'd give it a 3/10.
If I'm scared of the 2012 apocalyptic theory, should I skip the movie for a field trip?
I'm going on a class trip for my Spanish class to see the 2012 movie. I'm pretty terrified of the end of the world. I'd like to see the theories and all, but is it a bad idea to see the movie if I'm petrified of the end of the world? Is the movie scary, if you've seen it?
why are you scared? Being scared of a theory that the world will end is like being scared to open a door because you don't know what's behind it. Don't fear. It's a type of film that, yes has to deal with the world ending...but just think of it as an action film. Full of suspense. Even romance is in it. Funny parts too. Brace yourself for the devastating action...highly animated effects at it's max. I enjoyed it. Made me cry.. several times because of all the sentimental moments. You're gonna want to go home and hug your mom or dad after the film is over.
After watching the documentary Kony 2012, this question popped into my head?
After watching the Kony 2012 documentary film on Youtube, the narrator said that he wants the world to take action on April 20, 2012 and blanket the streets with Kony posters.
Is there a significance to this date?
April 20 is also 420, a weed-smoking day.
Perhaps to raise consciousness that there are better things to spend one's money on than dope..
Is there going to be another Star Wars Film?
I was just wondering if there is going to be another film so i can tell my friends.
Short answer: not a chance in hell. The story that Lucas wanted to tell has been told.
Long answer: "Devlin B." is very wrong when he says that "The whole series, which was two trilogies(6 movies), is over."
In truth, when Lucas first put pencil to paper there were 12 episodes of the story. The simple fact is that the 6 movie saga we have now bares very, very, VERY little resemblance to the story that Lucas started out with. Over the years there have been 1000s of changes made to the story of Star Wars but there were two massive ones, the decision to combine the characters of Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader into one and making Leia the "other Skywalker", that in effect eliminated 6 of the movies. After combining things to cut the episode number down to 9 the series was supposed to be told as follows: the first trilogy was to be about the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker, the second trilogy was to be about the rise of Luke Skywalker and the redemption of Anakin Skywalker, the third trilogy was to be about "the other Skywalker" that Yoda spoke of in ep V. The combining of the characters of Vader and Anakin had ripple effects throughout the whole story line and making Leia the "other Skywalker" eliminated the third trilogy.
Even though there won't be any more new Star Wars movies coming out all 6 movies will returning to the big screen at least one more time. Lucas has confirmed that they are working on making a true 3-D version of the saga. Target date for that release is summer of 2012. The Clone Wars animated series will soon start its second season on the cartoon network and looks to have a long run for its future. Lucas is also working on a live action TV series. This series will be set between ep III and ep IV. It will not feature the more well known "major characters" ... IE: Vader, Palpatine, etc ... instead the series will focus on the minor characters who first formed the Rebel Alliance and tell the story of how the Rebel Alliance was formed and their early battles against the Empire leading up to the events of ep IV.

Identify the characteristics/conventions/elements of an epic poem. How was Lawrence of Arabia like a epic poem?
Identify the characteristics/conventions/elements of an epic poem. In what way was the film like an epic poem?
Epic Poem Characteristics - Conventions of Epic Poetry
Epic is a long poem which deals with the doings characters from either legend or history. It is generally war-like that involves multiple secondary characters, and also gods and spirits. The following five are the epic conventions:
1. Invocation to muse: An epic starts with a prayer or invocation. The poet asks the muse/god to help him in his great work. Milton makes use of such convention to muse in his epic poem Paradise Lost.
2. Homeric Simile: Compared to an ordinary simile, a Homeric simile is expanded to such an extent that it becomes an another poem within the poem.
3. Athletic Games/Contest: Epic has to offer this convention. Milton makes use of it in his Paradise Lost Book-2 where he describes the fallen angels arranging an athletic meeting.
4. Adventurous Journey: The hero of an epic poem makes a journey. For instace, Aeneas makes a journey to look for the spirits of Anchises.
5. in medias res: The story of an epic poem should begin in the middle of the action.

Is Lucas Arts going to make any more Star Wars movies?
I think all of the star wars movies are great, but what happens after Luke save the galaxy?? Some people would like to know. I have read stories of him and Leia getting getting married and having kids but i don't like to read books i want to watch it in a action film.
Unfortunately no amount of "waiting, or kicking back, or being patient" will change the facts. The fact is that there will NOT be anymore live action Star Wars movies ... anyone who says differently is so full of it that it is pouring out of their ears. I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the book series come out in an animated form, doubt it will be to theaters more likely direct to DVD things, but there will not be anymore live action movies.
We all know that Lucas has the ability to change his mind with the direction of the wind but in this case I think we can believe him. In the years since the release of ep III Lucas has been asked two questions over and over and over and over again ... first, will he ever make anymore Star Wars movies and will he allow someone else to pick up where he left off. For the past four years the answer to those two questions has never changed ... NO ... and ... NO ... that's about as close to written in stone as you can get from Lucas. It only came to light last year but shortly after the release of ep III Lucas made a "minor" change to his Will. Everybody still gets all the same "stuff" BUT it has a condition to it now ... if any one of them ever allows anyone to make more movies or remake the ones already done everybody looses everything. We are talking millions and millions of dollars here ... do you really think they will risk it ... neither do I.
I do have to say that this is the first time I've ever seen anybody "witching" about Luke and Mara getting married ... personally I thought they were the perfect couple.
The future of Star Wars is animation ... the current series is running full steam ahead and will be around for a long time ... the live action TV series set in between ep III and ep IV is on track to debut in the fall of 2010 ... Lucas is still looking at the target date of 2012 to bring all 6 movies back to theaters in a true 3-D format. There's a ton of stuff that will be going on in the Star Wars world but none of that stuff will be new movies ... ticks me off too but George owns it all lock stock and barrel and what he says goes.
May The Force Be With You ...
EDIT: To "Boba Fett": Not really ... lol ... keeps my point total up. Now the "reboot" Star Wars questions ... hell hath no fury like an old school fan having his memories messed with ...
EDIT 2: Unless Lucas changes his mind ... then I'll be just another idiot who took him at his word and got hosed again ... I think might have to grab my toy lightsabres and go have a "talk" with the man if he does that ... lol ... but only after he's done making the new movies of course.
Why Up, a CGI animated film is considered to be a drama film?
I can't find any CGI aniamted drama film any where!
Up (2009) isn't CGI, it's an animated film. CGI is cartoon images they shoe-horn into live-action movies and try to convince us, unconvincingly, they don't look like anything but cartoons, like Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1998). They're getting slightly better at CGI, see Spiderman (2002) vs. The Avengers (2012), but not much. It still looks extremely fake and cartoon-like and my disbelief is rarely suspended.
What exactly is the world supposed to do with the whole KONY 2012 thing?
I watched the Invisible Children video on youtube, and at the end they say to share the video/sign the petition/donate money etc, but I don't understand what they're trying to garner support *for.*
Are they suggesting that some sort of international manhunt be launched? Do they want to convince the US government to invade Uganda? Are they trying to get the UN to put sanctions on Uganda or something?
Does anyone know what these people are trying to get the world to actually do?
I think the whole Kony thing is a right cause, but wrong answer. US bombs won’t save child soldiers. Invisible Children is a non-profit activist group and charity, whose main line of business is fundraising for the Ugandan Army. Last year only 31% of their expenditure went on their charity program – most of their money is spent making the kinds of films which aim to popularise the idea that military action by the USA can save child soldiers killing each with weapons stamped “Made in the USA”.
If US Marines were sent to Uganda, they would not be welcomed as liberators. They would be opposed, by any means necessary, by all those who reject the ‘right’ of the imperialist nations to police the world in the interests of a super-rich elite.
What would you rate these action pop-corn films from best to worst?
I am curious what would you rate these action pop-corn movies from best to worst from this small list. I choose manily futuristic invasion types of movies.
-Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen
-Transformers Dark of the moon
The only decent movie of the bunch is Cloverfield. The others are all suckfests.
Can you name all the action/war films with air dogfights?
Really love fighter jets and WW2 dogfight battles. As well as space battles(star wars) I watched top gun and Red Tails. Both are pretty good films. I want to know if they are others as good.
You ask two questions - the entire list, and then which are really good. Here's a substantial list of films with aerial dogfights in them:
1 Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989)
2 Andrey Rublyov (1966)
3 Kaze no tani no Naushika (1984)
4 Amores perros (2000)
5 The Women (1939)
6 Kurenai no buta (1992)
7 Wings (1927)
8 Hell's Angels (1930)
9 The Holy Mountain (1973)
10 Cowboy Bebop: Tengoku no tobira (2001)
11 The Dawn Patrol (1938)
12 Profondo rosso (1975)
13 The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)
14 Fresh (1994)
15 The Last Flight (1931)
16 Brestskaya krepost (2010)
17 The Eagle and the Hawk (1933)
18 Lassie Come Home (1943)
19 The First Great Train Robbery (1978)
20 Sag-haye velgard (2004)
21 Speed & Angels (2008)
22 Battle of Britain (1969)
23 Death Hunt (1981)
24 Independence Day (1996)
25 Good-bye, My Lady (1956)
26 Die Verrohung des Franz Blum (1974)
27 God Is My Co-Pilot (1945)
28 Zero Hour! (1957)
29 Hot Shots! (1991)
30 Oscar and Lucinda (1997)
31 Age of Consent (1969)
32 White Fang (1991)
33 Washington Square (1997)
34 Half Baked (1998)
35 Pianese Nunzio, 14 anni a maggio (1996)
36 Task Force (1949)
37 Flying Leathernecks (1951)
38 The Kentuckian (1955)
39 Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985)
40 Hart's War (2002)
41 Flying Disc Man from Mars (1950)
42 Petits frères (1999)
43 Today We Live (1933)
44 Clipped Wings (1937)
45 Bombers B-52 (1957)
46 Red Tails (2012)
47 Pearl Harbor (2001)
48 The New Kids (1985)
49 Sheitan (2006)
50 Sign of the Wolf (1941)
51 Exorcist: The Beginning (2004)
52 Tarzan & Jane (2002)
53 Eyes of an Angel (1991)
54 Skyline (2010)
55 Kill Speed (2010)
56 Freedom Strike (1998)
57 Iron Eagle II (1988)
58 Aces: Iron Eagle III (1992)
59 Dead Space (1991)
60 Battlefield Earth (2000)
61 Midnight Lovers (1926)
62 Across the Atlantic (1928)
63 My Grief Is My Own (2008)
As to quality, that's a lighter tougher to nail down. Some are good movies, with only minor or so-so aerial dogfights, and some have great air battles, but the movie is weak. Also, some on this list are going to be tough to track down. Wings (1927) is a well-done, Academy Award winning, cutting edge for its time silent film, where it's made more impressive by virtue that you know there's no CGI used - it's all real, but the movie due to its age is difficult to track down. Same for some of these foreign films.
Ones I would consider noteworthy on the list purely from the aerial cinematography (since that appears to be what you're most interested in): Wings, Hell's Angels, God Is My Co-Pilot, Flying Leathernecks, Battle of Britain, Independence Day, and Pearl Harbor.
Hope that helps!
What's it called when the sea goes luminous and lights up?

Some species of plankton, called phytoplankton, produce electric light known as bioluminescence when agitated, which can be done by wave action. Even flushing a W.C.on a boat can create a spectacular light show.
why did Jason Russell have a huge emotional breakdown?
Jason Russell ran naked along the streets of San Diego, people says it was from stress and criticism. Why would people have anything against him for doing such a great thing like Kony 2012?
There are all sorts of conditions that can cause a person to become overwhelmed: natural disasters, loss of a loved one, disease or violence. Circumstances can spiral so completely out of control it's as if life itself has been hijacked and the person is merely along for the ride, clinging desperately to any scrap of normalcy. Sometimes, the person loses hold of that grip completely. Losing your grip happens all the time, altering the course of individual lives and families. Usually, the chaotic cyclone of a breakdown is relatively contained. Last week, however, it appears one of these went viral.
Jason Russell, co-founder of the organization Invisible Children and director of the documentary "Kony 2012" was detained by police in his hometown of San Diego and hospitalized. The initial reports I saw were salacious and, thus, captivating; Russell was reportedly running into traffic, naked, possibly masturbating, possibly making sexual gestures, possibly vandalizing cars. TMZ posted a 12-second video, purported to be Russell, naked, apparently pounding the sidewalk at a neighborhood intersection.
Ben Keesey, the CEO of Invisible Children, put out a statement saying, "Jason Russell was unfortunately hospitalized yesterday suffering from exhaustion, dehydration and malnutrition. He is now receiving medical care and is focused on getting better. The past two weeks have taken a severe emotional toll on all of us, Jason especially, and that toll manifested itself in an unfortunate incident yesterday..." What happened in the past two weeks that took such a severe emotional toll that it led to Jason Russell becoming exhausted, dehydrated and malnourished? Fame, or its sometimes noxious counterparts, success and notoriety.
Two weeks ago, Invisible Children released the "Kony 2012" documentary directed and narrated by Russell, outlining the decades-long atrocities committed by Joseph Kony, a warlord and leader of a Ugandan guerilla group called the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA). The documentary urges global action on April 20 to call attention to Kony and demand he turn himself in to the International Criminal Court to be tried for crimes against humanity, especially against tens of thousands of children, abducted and turned into soldiers or sex slaves. Since the documentary's release, it has gone viral over YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. In short, the video did what it was supposed to do -- harness the power of social media to advance awareness.
The awareness was supposed to focus on Joseph Kony. Spotlights, however, cast a very large beam. It wasn't long before Jason Russell and Invisible Children got caught up in the glare of public scrutiny. Criticism began to surface about how the money raised by the organization was being spent. Some people called the efforts "neo-colonial," upset with gun-toting whites charging in to save defenseless blacks, deriding a "savior attitude." Not only did Joseph Kony come under fire, but so did Jason Russell and Invisible Children.
Danica Russell, Jason's wife, said "We thought a few thousand people would see the film, but in less than a week, millions of people around the world saw it. While that attention was great at raising awareness about Joseph Kony, it also brought a lot of attention to Jason -- and, because of how personal the film is, many of the attacks against it were also very personal, and Jason took them very hard."
One of those attacks was that the film was over-simplified. Invisible Children again put out a statement: "In our quest to garner wide public support of nuanced policy, Invisible Children has sought to explain the conflict in an easily understandable format ... In a 30-minute film, however, many nuances of the 26-year conflict are admittedly lost or overlooked."
I can only hope that those quick to condemn Jason Russell will withhold their judgment just a little longer and do a bit more digging, at least to a greater depth than 140 characters. There are also nuances to public exposure of private pain that should not be lost or overlooked by any of us in a viral rush to judgment.
Why are the Hollywood produces who sell movies to dating teenagers remaking the same action movies over and?
over and over and over again? ANOTHER Spider-Man out from Sony's Columbia Pictures in 2012. ANOTHER one!
it's about money...if it works don't change it
What actors would be best to star in a live action Pokemon film?
Jackie Chan as Ash?
Justin Beiber as Misty?
Will Smith as Brock?
Renee Zellwegar as Brock (her eyes are perfect)
I agree Justin can so pull off Misty's hair.
Ash, hmmm Jackie Chan is pretty good, he has all the right moves, but does he have the boyish charm?
I would have to say Donny Osmond, instead.
Great question, Pokemon for 2012
What is the name of the movie to be shot in Rosarito Beach Baja Mexico in August, Sept. 2011?
During July 2011 casting has been on-going for a movie to be filmed in Rosarito Beach, Baja, Mexico.
It is a film about 1940's American town. Who are the stars, producer etc
The name is "Little Boy",
Here is a copy of an article in SignOnSan Diego By Sandra Dibble:
A movie set in northern California during World War II is being shot in Baja California, bringing a million investment that state officials said Monday will breathe new life into the region's film industry.
Called “Little Boy,” it tells the story of an 8-year-old who dreams about rescuing his father from the war. The scenery moves from a Norman Rockwell-esque town to a prisoner-of-war camp in the Philippines to the devastation of Hiroshima following the atomic bomb.
Eduardo Verastegui, a Mexican actor, is co-producing the film through Los Angeles-based Metanoia Films. The director is Alejandro Monteverde, who is co-author of the script with Pepe Portillo. Actors include Ben Chaplin and Emily Watson.
Most of the action will be shot at Baja Film Studios south of downtown Rosarito Beach, the same location where James Cameron’s 1997 film “Titanic” was filmed.
On Monday, Baja California’s governor, Jose Guadalupe Osuna Millan joined other authorities in touring a set built do look like a town on a bluff that overlooks the ocean.Other locations around the state also will be used as backdrops, including the Guadalupe Valley, the Laguna Salada and the Casa de Cultura in Tijuana.
State authorities announced that the production will generate more than 1,000 jobs, and said that over than 90 percent of the staff will be local hires. Juan Tintos, Baja California’s tourism secretary, said members of Rosarito’s large ex-pat community will be enlisted as extras.
“It’s a good investment, it’s good for the location,” Tintos said.
Filming began in June and is expected to continue through November. The movie is scheduled for release in 2012
Is Hugo entertaining for a seven year old?
I might go tomorrow but I want to know if he will get bored easily. He's seen movies like Jurassic Park and 2012 where it makes you wait for the action, but is Hugo different?
BQ- Is the 3D worth it?
BQ 2- What did you think of the film?
BQ 3- What previews did they show?
Hugo may get boring to a 7 year old. It's barely a kids' movie, really. I'd imagine older people who are fans of film history would enjoy it more. There really isn't much action.
The 3D is worth it. This usually isn't the case, but the 3D adds to this film.
I thought the film was pretty good, but again, maybe not that fun for kids. It really depends on your kid. But I do think the advertising makes it seem like more of a kids' adventure that it really is.
The previews I saw were mostly for 3D animated kids' movies. But trailers vary based on whether you are seeing the 3D or 2D version, and they can even vary from theater to theater.
Do you think Iran is developing "the bomb" or is their nuclear program peaceful as they say?
I believe Iran is developing the bomb-what do you think? Iran has said multiple times they wish to destroy Israel (this is a fact). Iran has moved nuclear facilities underground so the media reports---why? If they are peaceful why move facilities underground, kick out inspectors, etc? I think Israel is in mortal danger. What do you think? Am I right or wrong?
There's no question that Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons.
-Years worth of UN inspections and investigations confirmed it:
Link - http://www.iaea.org/newscenter/focus/iaeairan/index.shtml
The IAEA also caught Iran trying to remove incriminating evidence prior to UN inspections:

As for Israel, it's just the first target on Iran's global hit list.
The Iranian government is openly planning to start a world war.
A war that it's theocratic government delusionally believes Iran is divinely destined to win:
"A feature-length documentary film, produced by a top adviser to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, claims that the cataclysmic events that will usher in an era of Muslim world domination are about to begin, triggered by actions launched by Iran and its Lebanese ally, Hezbollah."
"The film uses classic Muslim texts to convince the faithful that this scenario of Muslim world government, led by Iran, was foretold in the Koran and the Hadith, the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad.
It might appear innocuous — like those Christian and Jewish end-times scholars who reach deep into the world of Biblical prophecy for clues as to the exact date of the second coming of Jesus — except that the Iranians are not telling the faithful to prepare their souls for salvation: they are telling them to gird up for the coming battle with the infidel."

The only thing stopping Iran from starting that war is lack of progress in its nuclear program.
All Iran needs to f*ck human civilization as we know it are 7 warheads.
One detonated at the right altitudes over the world's 7 continents will fry the electronic and electrical systems that human civilization is wholly dependent on:

Contrary to what poorly educated people prefer to pretend, Iran's a global threat and no "Strategic Nuclear Balance" nonsense can deter Iran's religious nuts from believing Allah destined them to rule the world.

Does anyone know anything about the new disney movie called Brave?
I've seen previews in theatres but I want to know more.
Brave is a 2012 film. It's an upcoming American 3D computer-animated fantasy adventure film. In the film, the skilled archer Merida (voiced by Kelly Macdonald) defies an age-old custom, unleashing chaos in the kingdom. After consulting a wise old woman (voiced by Julie Walters) for help, she becomes cursed and is forced to undo the spell before it is too late.
The movie is being produced by Pixar Animation Studios, making this their thirteenth feature film, and will be released by Walt Disney Pictures. It was written by Brenda Chapman and Irene Mecchi, and it is being directed by Mark Andrews, who took over from Chapman. The film is scheduled for release on June 22, 2012 in the United States.
The synopsis of the film reads: "Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In Brave, a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts. Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane). Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Witch (Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late."

Why sunni bakris and wahabis making Islam look bad with all the rioting and killing people?
The prophet wouldnt allow this rioting killing other innocent people oh of course they are more followers of umer ibn khattab to them omer is on higher level than prophet All of the bombing killing rioting is done by sunnis THE TERRORISTS.
I don't know of anyone that does not know or recognize the threat of Islam towards all that "blaspheme" the "prophet" Mohamed. The atrocities that occurred in Libya and Yemen are evil committed by evil personified, radical Islam. It is a religion with a warrior mentality. For example on Aug 31st, 2012, Cyrus McGoldrick, advocacy director for the New York office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), logged into Facebook on August 12 to hint at his desire to vandalize anti-jihad ads that may soon run on city buses, he did not simply underline CAIR’s troubling attitude toward free expression. McGoldrick’s words — and the subsequent actions of others — have illuminated an overlooked aspect of the Islamist assault on Western speech: the defacement, if not obliteration, of political and commercial messages.
Now we can't imagine or contemplate assaults of this nature at a time when our government is trying to help them and stabilize Libya with our tax dollars. However, there are others complicit in this atrocity by producing the film about Mohamed. I watched a small segment online and it was the stupidest thing I have ever seen. I feel the "producers" of this must also be held accountable because they obviously knew how offensive it would be. This is especially relevant since one is a apostate of Islam. He is now in hiding no doubt fearing reprisal. Remember the Florida pastor Terry Jones who threatened to burn copies of the Qu'ran? He also was complicit in this atrocity and should be held accountable for his actions. I believe the attack on the embassy and the murder of our ambassador would NOT have occurred if that piece of trash had not been made or shown. This video show his intent to burn 200 Qu'rans on the 10th annivesary of 911 in 2010. On April 28, 2012, Jones, and about 20 others, burned copies of the Qur'an. He was fined 1 by Gainesville Fire Rescue for burning books without authorization. It was this hate that is responsible for the events in Libya and Yemen and should also be held responsible. The ABC web site has a video of an interview with Jones.

What were your thoughts on the movie "the grey"?
I dont think a better movie will come out 2012 then this piece of art
It was GREAT. Lots of kids thought it was an action/adventure movie so they will be disappointed. It's really a philosophical film. Most people left during the final credit roll and missed the final scene which is shown AFTER all the credits have passed.
What are some good "teen" books to read?
I just got done reading The Hunger Games trilogy and now I am looking for something else to read. I have read the Percy Jackson and the Olympian series, the Twilight series and the Dust Lands series so I am looking for something like those to read.
I am not interested in the Maximum Ride series or the 50 Shades of Grey series so don't suggest it.
I am into suspense, action, romance and adventure type books.
If it helps, I am 14 and almost 15.
The Heroes of Olympus Series
It is a continuation of pjo where you are interested to new characters, and you get to see percy in third person, as well as other characters such as Annabeth. I would strongly recommend it to you as Rick riordan throws in a lot of mature themes(for your age, not for 18-year-olds, because he realizes that the first pjo book came out in 2005, and while most readers were 12, they've grown up by now).
Or, if you've already read or are not interested in those,
Skulduggery Pleasant Series
Skulduggery Pleasant is the debut novel of Irish playwright Derek Landy, published in 2007. It is the first of the Skulduggery Pleasant novels. The novel crosses the horror, comedy, mystery, romance and fantasy genres.
The story follows the titular character Skulduggery Pleasant, an undead sorcerer and detective, with his partner Stephanie Edgley who calls herself Valkyrie Cain, and numerous magic-wielding allies as they try to prevent Nefarian Serpine from unleashing a weapon of terrible power on the world. The book was retitled Scepter Of The Ancients for the 2009 paperback release in the US and Canada.
HarperCollins Audio also publishes the unabridged CD sets of the books read by Rupert Degas.
Or the Cirque du Freak series
Cirque du Freak (also known as Cirque du Freak: A Living Nightmare) is the first novel in The Saga of Darren Shan by Darren Shan (his real name, Darren O′Shaughnessy). It is part of the Vampire Blood Trilogy, which comprises the first three of the 12 book saga. Cirque du Freak was first published in Great Britain by HarperCollins in 2000, and was later published in the Vampire Blood Series in 2003 and 2004. A film version was released in 2009.
Maze Runner series; if you like hunger games, you'll like this
The Maze Runner is the first book in a young-adult dystopian science fiction trilogy of the same name by James Dashner. The novel was published October 2009 by Delacorte Press, an imprint of Random House. The book is currently being shopped as a possible film project. James Dashner announced in November 2011 that he was writing a prequel to The Maze Runner titled The Kill Order, which was released August 14, 2012.

Is it true that Europeans don't want the internet to be free anymore?
I heard something like that in the news today. We want it to be free and they want to have it controlled and charge much more for everything. I didn't really understand it. Can somebody explain.
I heard they are mad at us because we want to keep it free and open to everyone.
I can assure you a lot of informed Europeans do NOT want that. It's a Government scheme to censor the Internet, they're calling it Internet 2, it will be be free, everyone will be provided with a "high-speed" broadband connection but the ISP's will be tied to the Government which will have the power to inspect certain information sent and received (data packets) the idea is to target online theft, to catch P2P users and illegal downloaders who will be warned for a first offense, choked on a second offense and banned entirely on a third as well as facing a fine. It's all backed and pressured by the media industry, particularly music and film. The trouble is, they can open any packet which looks questionable and that packet could be a personal email with personal information. So there's a lot of debate about whether this should be legal or not.
Some sites which cause heavy bandwidth (like Youtube for example) will come with a charge which you have to pay to access.
The UK Government has already taken action to lay some of the Broadband cables (I was offered to lay some of them when I was in college last year) they're excuse being that everyone will have live internet coverage of the 2012 olympics should they be unable to reach London.
What they really want is to introduce this new internet along with the Digital Economy Bill.
I oppose this idea in it's entirety, as do most rational Europeans. The promise of "free" internet isn't enough to compensate for the loss of freedom and relative confidentiality that the current internet offers. People who cannot afford the internet will be drawn to this and that's what the Government is banking on, that enough people will be willing to accept "free" high-speed access to the internet. They're playing down all the parts about censorship, invasion of privacy, monitoring, traffic-shaping etc.
This is not an idea that's widely supported by the public, this is an idea that's being *forced* on the public by stock-investors, the Media Industry & the Government. Basically they have the money, they have the influential power and now with the Olympics they have an excuse to kick things off. I honestly think it will only be a matter of time before this is implemented.
The Government can claim it's to improve service and protect copyright, while legally supporting the media industry all it likes but at the end of the day it's just another form of censorship and that makes the whole concept no better than China's "Great Firewall"
Why are 3D movies back in vogue?
I just looked at Pixar's line-up through 2012 and every movie is planned in 3D. It seems like every other movie out right now (even live action horror movies) is in 3D. Has there been some technology development that is pushing this trend or is it just the cycle of popularity that brings this back?
The fact that they are polarized 3d, with the tinted sunglasses type, is nothing really new. The movies of the 3d boom of the 1950's where polarized, not red and blue. Jaws 3d in 1983 was polarized. From reading different articles it sounds like one reason is because it is much easier for studios to film in 3d because of digital cameras as oppossed to film cameras. Now they can replay the scene on demand and if the 3d effect doesn't look quite right they can refilm and change things around or even change it with a computer without refilming. Also when they released some films in 3d in just a few theaters like chicken little and polar express and beowulf the attendance to the 3d showing was reather impressive compared to the 2d showing. So then the studios realized that at least for now there are a lot of people willing to see and pay a little more for the 3d. Even now the last two 3d films (My Bloody Valentine and Coraline) for every one person that saw it in 2d six saw it in 3d, and remember way more theaters are showing the 2d version.

Does anyone have any info on any upcoming DC COMIC movies?
Ok, DC Comics has been lagging it on movie movies. They're doing good on the PG-13, to dvd movies, but lets face it, Marvel's kicking DC universes' ass over here.
Well, Justice League, a live action movie is coming out soon either next year or 2012, Superman Batman Apocalypse next week, All Star Superman On February 2011, Batman Year 1 2011, all three animated and, Batman 2012, and Green Lantern 2011, Wonder Woman 2013, three live action films and two new shows, Young Justice on november and Green Lantern next 2011.
Why don't they make disney movies like they used to? Nothing compares to the classics anymore?
In recent years Disney moved away from their original hand drawn animation techniques to focus more on live action and CGI films.
Disney originally announced that Home on the Range would be the last traditionally animated film, and from Chicken Little onwards, all future Disney films would be computer-animated. In July 2006, The Princess and the Frog was revealed to be in development using their tradition animation style and they'll be releasing it in December of this year.
They'll be releasing Rapunzel in 2010 and King of the Elves in 2012, both using the tradition animation style.
So hopefully we'll be seeing something more closely resembling the classic Disney of our youth!
what happened to that cruise ship last year?
Whatever happened to the cruise ship that capsized off the coast of Italy last year? I heard that the tide was slowly pulling it back in to the ocean, but I guess I'm just wondering if it's still there.
The ship is still exactly as you saw it on the TV etc. resting on the ledge. They have removed the oil etc and are starting to patch up the holes to re-float it.
It is estimated to cost up to billion for the stabilising work already carried out and to re-float the ship and take a year to prepare. It will be towed away and cut up for scrap as it cannot be economic to "refurbish". The high cost is because nothing like this has ever been attempted before.
Salvage experts Smit International assessed removal of Costa Concordia and her 2,380 tonnes of fuel. Smit assessed that any salvage operation could take up to ten months, and the ship may be a constructive total loss. Smit were contracted to remove her fuel, and during the operation it was reported that the ship had shifted 60 cm (24 in) since grounding, but there was no immediate prospect of her breaking up or sinking deeper.
Following a competitive tender, in May 2012 it was announced that Titan Salvage and Italian firm Micoperi had won the salvage contracts. Their plan, expected to cost 0m and therefore expected to be the most expensive salvage ever, is to:
Secure the hull to the land using steel cables, to stop her falling into the deeper ocean
Build a horizontal underwater platform below the ship
Bring the hull to vertical, by winching the hull onto the platform
Attach airtight tanks to either side of the hull
Re-float the hull and tanks
Recovery tow to an Italian port
Remember the weight is about 100,000tons!
The biggest single lift ever was 7,500tons of a bridge in Japan, so you can see the huge difference! They are not going to try and lift it but pump out the water, put flotation bags all around and then with leverage winches winch it vertical until it floats! That's the theory - who knows what will happen!
In the meantime the lawyers are trying to get a class action together (all claimants sue through 1 lawyer) and to have the case heard in the USA (probably Florida) as the ultimate owner is Carnival cruises who are based in the USA. US Courts historically grant much bigger compensation.
It will probably be a couple of years before it goes to court. As in insight into what is probably happening behind the scenes watch the Erin Brocovitch film..........
By the way we are not worried about the "sinking" of cruise ships. This was written on my tablet while on a small cruise ship in the White Sea at Northern Russia!

Why is the Pinoy action films was stopped?
and why is the Pinoy action films is now less than before (such as the remake of Asiong Salonga, El Presidente, and Cesar Montano action film in 2012).
because chances are, it won't sell to the public. you know this generation and what most of this generation likes [I personally like animated movies lol]. if they're going to make a film, they need to earn lots of money to pay off for the making of the film. but if the public doesn't like it, do you think it will sell? no, it's all about money [well, not all, maybe some]
you know the popular action genre in this generation... those robot stuffs, cool vehicles or weapons or out-of-this-world etc.
How do I report Form 1099?
I film basketball for a university athletics department. It is a freelance job, which earned me 0 for the 2012 year.
I was told originally that I would be sent Form 1099 from the athletics department to use while doing my taxes. Since I had not yet received the form, I asked about it, and was told that I do it myself. This left me very confused, and when I questioned further, I got very vague answers.
I believe the limit for needing to report Form 1099 is 0 (correct me if I'm mistaken). Since I made more than that, I'd really like to know my next course of action. Thank you.
What are some good films I can watch?
I like films like action, drama, thriller, suspense, films like shawshank redemption, James bond, defiance, etc but if you know any other good films f any genre I'll give them a try
Here you go...
I prefer to be the girl role in the relationship but I am manly, is that right?
I am gay. I love to take the girl's role, having a manly man as the guy role, but I am manly in many different ways.. I just am confused.
I think it would be helpful if we knew exactly what you mean exactly by, "the girl role".
I'm straight, but I work with children, cook, like to clean, read, don't like competitive sports, love wine and dancing, know nothing about cars, and dislike math.
On the other hand, I can squat 400 lbs, I love action films and kung fu, have worked in landscaping and construction, I have hair all over my body and am sexually attracted to girls.
In a way, you're lucky that you're gay because you can perhaps more freely express your feminine side than a straight man might be able to. I've caught some nonsense from friends who are stuck doggedly adhering to traditional gender roles. It's 2012! Be whoever you want! Find people who love you!
What's with all this talk of the end of the world lately...?
Even in the movies now, too you have films like 2012 coming out.
I guess the "end of the world" is big money in the movie buisness.
Why, do you think, people are so obsessed with this concept?
It is true that all over the world, a few type of people have been affected a panic and fear towards the rumour and belief regarding End of the world on December 21, 2012 at 11:11 A.M. This fear is been generated in people recently geared by the Hollywood box office Film, "2012, THE END OF WORLD".directed by Roland Emmerich, based on the fictitious book, 'Farewell Atlantis'. The filming began in Aug 2008 and released on Nov 13, 2009.
The film briefly references Mayanism, the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, and the 2012 phenomenon in its portrayal of cataclysmic events unfolding in the year 2012. Because of solar flare bombardment the Earth's core begins heating up at an unprecedented rate, eventually causing crustal displacement. This results in an onslaught of Doomsday event scenarios plunging the world into chaos. Ranging from Los Angeles falling into the Pacific Ocean, the eruption of the Yellowstone National Park caldera, cataclysmic earthquakes wreaking havoc around the globe, and Megatsunamis surging across the Earth.
Before going throuhg this, it is needed to know what is mayanism. Mayans were some typical and indigenous people lived in part of Mexico, Central America and Gautimala. Rather to tell it as a civilization. They used a typical calendarr which is called Mayan Calendar. As per their calendar calculations, the date ends on 2012 and no more calander date is there. The Mayan Calendar is something profoundly different than just a system to mark off the passage of time. The Mayan Calendar is above all a prophetic calendar that may help us understand the past and foresee the future. It is a calendar of the Ages that describes how the progression of Heavens and Underworlds condition the human consciousness and thus the frames for our thoughts and actions within a given Age. The Mayan Calendar is not predicting the end of the world 2012, but the start of a new era. But many 'experts' came to a conclution that the Mayans predicted the worl's end as on 2012. A war god would come to earth, flood, earthquake and mega tsunamis occur, a gigantic star would come and hit the earth etc. But NASA discards all these rumors and tells there is no chance for an end of the World in 2012.
Actually, the Film makers made all the panic in some of the people to make high yield out of this belief for the film

What was your favorite movie of November 2012? Least favorite?
Of all of the movies to open in November 2012, which did you like the best and which was your least favorite?: Flight, Wreck It Ralph, Skyfall, Lincoln, Breaking Dawn Part 2, Life of Pi, Red Dawn, Rise of the Guardians, and Killing Them Softly. My least favorite was Breaking Dawn Part 2, because it lacked the epicness it should've had and my favorite was Wreck It Ralph, because it was surprisingly funny and touching. Your thoughts? Thanks.
Favourite was Breaking Dawn Part 2. It exceeded my expectations - I've found all of the Twilight movies pleasantly true to the novels. I found the fight scene a bit of a shock - when it cut back to reality it felt a little like being told that Bella woke up and it was all a dream! But on reflection I think it made the movie - it was a part of the book, but one that we couldn't see as it was through Bella's perspective, and it added another dimension to the movie. The action was exciting, but without the devastating repercussions. I have to say though that the CGI Renesmee was terrifying! Mackenzie Foy was lovely as Renesmee when they didn't have to CGI her, but I think the CGI Renesmee lacked Mackenzie's magic and beauty. I'd have loved to have seen more of Mackenzie's Renesmee and for Renesmee to have spoken more. But all in all it was a great film
Second favourite was Pitch Perfect (it's been previewing at the end of November here in Australia). It was great, a cute, funny chick flick. I loved seeing Anna Kendrick out of Twilight, and seeing Brittany Snow again (haven't seen her in the cinema since Hairspray) was nice, and it was great having an Australian (Rebel Wilson) in the cast. It was great movie, and as a die-hard Glee fan, it did not disappoint!
Third favourite was Perks of Being a Wallflower. It was a good movie, I loved Emma Watson, but it wasn't as true to the book as I'd hoped. Still, it was a good movie and I'm glad I saw it. I'll get the DVD when it's out.
Least favourite was Fun Size. It was disappointing - it wasn't as funny as I'd hoped, and the premise didn't quite work. The acting was alright, but it definitely wasn't anything Oscar-worthy. For me, it just didn't work.
Those were the four films I saw in November. I think in Australia we must have different film release dates, because some of the films I've seen aren't on your list, but some of the films of your list haven't been released here yet! For example, Life of Pi hasn't been released here yet, but I'm keen to see it
Due to Global warming, this planet will be destroyed before 2012,what r u doing to face this situation?
The Ex vice president of US. Mr Al Gore made a film The inconvenient truth which tells that till the end of 2012, this planet will be submerged in water. the glaciers r melting fast. North and south pole are changing fast and snow is melting. this is a fact. what are u doing to face this situation? slowly we r approaching towards death, how can we save ourselves?
“Everyone around the world can make a difference….
because when it comes to protect our planet Earth,
every ACTION counts.”
An inconvenient truth is a really good documentary.....
well to protect us
we should use energy saving bulbs
walk small distances instead of using cars
turn off light when going to another room
grow vegetables in the kitchen garden
use low ultra emission car or travel by bicycles.........
“The only way to prevent our already ill planet
from dying is to get people conscious
of their consumption patterns and be
provided an alternative way of going
on with their usual life”
