Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Do the download movies from Netflix have English subtitles available?
I am not asking about the DVD rentals. I'm asking if I download movies from Netflix, will they have English subtitles/CC like they do on DVD's? I could not find the information on their website and don't want to subscribe if they don't. I don't have a DVD player with me right now, and just wanted to know. Thanks!
Jimobasa: I mean watching it on PC from their website. I'm not referring to any illegal activity. I've already read the subscription plan.

Exactly NOT what i needed. I need to put thing ON my 360 hard drive not onto my comp.

    • ANSWER:
You need your XBox 360 to be modified with a mod-chip before you play games or movies.
Of course it can play any game of your own, and any movie (also DivX as you asked) as you wish after you get your XBox 360 mod-chip installed!

It's a very mature technical now so it won't have problem if you get your XBox 360 modified.

Also you can download any PAL or NTSC XBox 360 game as you wish online now.

About the downloading and backup and copy games service: There are serveral sites providing such download services. They are very excellent on the contents, not only Complete big XBox 360 games like Metroid, LOR, American Idols and Guitar Heroes etc. But also many movies, XBox 360 tv shows, music and videos much more!!!

All you need is to join one of those sites to download so many resources. So you can download all those media as you wish!

And some sites can provide simple software help you to burn the ISO Games into DVDs, it is very easy and fast. After the instructions by them, you can go ahead to play those games you burned onto your XBox 360.

Maybe a good review site to those download sites might help you very much on judging which is one is the best for you:

  3. QUESTION:
Will I be able to use Kindle Fire for Netflix and hulu?
I am looking at getting a Kindle Fire but want to know if it will work with streaming services such Netflix and Hulu. Does anyone have any input on this?

    • ANSWER:
Hi, Susan, think about it - Amazon is reported to loose up to on each Kindle Fire in hope to make that back and then some on selling you movies and apps. Would you think Amazon will allow their movie streaming competitors into their subsidized device? Of course not! Also, here's other facts about Kindle Fire you might want to consider:
      - Kindle Fire doesn't have microSD slot that, for example, Nook Color has thus it is stuck with 6 GB usable internal storage unlike Nook Color that can get up to 32 GB card in. Kindles are made to be almost like a "dumb terminal" of the past to make sure you're tied up to Amazon's storage on the web (for which you need Wi-Fi connection to get to) and you can only store content you get from Amazon there, not other files. Quoting Amazon on Kindle Fire: "Free cloud storage for all Amazon content". Get it, Amazon content?
      - The stats of how long the battery can last (Kindle Fire theory is 7.5 hours) are taken with Wi-Fi off. It will last only about 3 hours if you use it to access content from their Cloud storage over Wi-Fi.
      - Amazon can spy on your web activity through their new cloud-integrated web browser of Kindle Fire.
      - VERY IMPORTANT – lack of microSD slot means that if you decide to root your Kindle Fire, you’ll have to root the actual device thus there will be no coming back. On Nook Color, you can make it boot from a “rooted” microSD card and if you want to get back to the original Nook you can just take out the card and reboot.
      - Kindle Fire doesn't have a camera.
      - Kindle Fire has about 70% less usable screen area than iPad 2.
      - Kindle doesn't support eBooks in ePub format that is the most used format in the world.
      - Kindle app store contains only Amazon approved apps and it does not include (and will not include) Netflix app that iPad has and Nook Color is getting thus again you're stuck with Amazon content only.
      - Amazon confirmed that you cannot download/stream anything to Kindle Fire when traveling outside US.
      - Amazon says it will review every app in its Appstore for Fire compatibility, as part of an automated process. Rejected apps will include those that rely on a gyroscope, camera, WAN module, Bluetooth, microphone, GPS, or micro SD. Apps are also forbidden from using Google's Mobile Services (and in-app billing), which, if included, will have to be "gracefully" removed. In terms of actual content, Amazon has outlawed all apps that change the tablet's UI in any way (including theme- or wallpaper-based tools), as well as any that demand root access.
      - I'd recommend waiting for Nook Color 2 that is rumored to be released by Barnes & Noble shortly.

  4. QUESTION:
How do I get internet on my ipod without wifi?
I have a 3rd gen. ipod but I dont have wifi. Is there anyway I can use internet and other wifi needed apps without having wireless internet?

    • ANSWER:
You don't, other than free WiFi that is available from wireless hotspots such as Starbucks, McDonald's, etc.

To connect to the Internet you need a WAN connection from an ISP. (Comcast, Verizon, AT&T, etc.),

The Internet is a Wide Area Network or WAN. You need a Internet plan from a ISP and a broadband modem or gateway to provide a connection to the ISP.

You need a wireless router to provide WiFi to your iPod, however you also need a ISP plan and some type of interface (modem) to access the Internet service provided by the ISP.

If you already have a ISP you can just add a wireless router to your cable or DSL modem. If you don't have a ISP yet, many include a wireless gateway (combo modem / WiFi router) with their service.

Wireless routers are fairly inexpensive. http://www.amazon.com/s/?_encoding=UTF8&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-keywords=wireless%20router&url=search-alias%3Daps&sprefix=wireless%20ro%2Caps%2C490&tag=excharge-20

As far as the brand goes, the brand is not as important as the model. Some manufacturers release a good model but the next is crap. I would look at the Amazon reviews of models that interest you. Even if you don't buy from Amazon the reviews will tell you a lot about which models to avoid. Look for at least 15 or more reviews with a 4 star or better rating. Read a few and see if they sound like the particular model will work for your application.

      CELLULAR WIRELESS HOTSPOT:
Another option would be a wireless mobile hotspot app on a smartphone.

It acts like a mini wireless router, you just turn it on the phone and can connect up to 5 wireless devices.

You have to pay for a mobile data plan from your cellular provider.

Be forewarned that most have low monthly data limits and buying more is expensive, so you wouldn't want to use it to stream a lot of Netflix movies or try and replace your home DSL or cable Internet service.

I have a 6 GB shared family data plan and find that more than adequate, you'll have to monitor your mobile usage for a few months and upgrade or downgrade your data plan to match your usage.

If you don't have a smartphone with wireless mobile hotspot capabilities you can get a separate portable mobile hotspot device such as the MiFi from your cellular provider. This will cost a little more because the device needs it's own account and number.

      Good Luck...

I've just gotten my wife a Flip video camera for her birthday. She has a DVD burner in her laptop, but probably won't use any conversion to DVD software that's too complicated. What's the best tablet to get at an affordable cost?
I'm looking into some tablets to get, I'm 15, I want the similarities of an iPad but at a lower price, I really like the kindle fire, but I want to know what else is out there that compares or is better. I want to stay under or around 200 dollars (that's why an iPad/iPad mini is out of the question) one with a camera and the ability to use it would be fantastic, it can be a front facing camera, but I noticed on either the kindle fire hd or the nexus 7 there wasn't a camera app and it could only be accessed through video chat/Skype or other apps like those. So any recommendations on a nice affordable tablet with these specifications? Thank you!

  11. QUESTION:
Is the internet boring or is it just me?
I used to watch movies on youtube and now they are boring.
I used to use social networks now they are boring.
I used to like blogs(video/audio and text) now they are boring.
The only things I like about the internet now is streaming music flash games and checking my e-mail.
Is it just me or is the internet boring?

    • ANSWER:
Neither. You have explained how the much-hyped sites are no longer finding favour. The internet provides access to a lot of useful material along with twice as much which can variously be described as junk or fun or advertising or out to rob you. In the "useful" category I'd put legitimate online stores, online magazines/newspapers and more serious (business related) sites, along with many concerning hobbies and factual data. You can find things which would otherwise need a set of encyclopedia to describe aspects of art, history, science, culture and entertainment.

I acknowledge YouTube is very successful, but it's not a site I visit, along with Bebo, Facebook, Myspace, or Friends Reunited, etc.

I don't use Google as my primary search tool (only to check on whether my clients' web sites are showing up), and don't play online games. I _do_ use various web sites concerned with science, architecture, music, and listen to various radio stations as well as checking user reviews of gadgets (even if I don't have the cash this month to buy all the neat things I see).

I think the "boredom" factor is partly an age thing because these days people seem to feel the need to stay "in" with their peers and many seem to do the same things (hence the popularity of Myspace / Facebook / etc) whereas some older people will spend more of their online time on sites which have specific appeal and might be linked to their hobbies etc.

Sorry, rambling perhaps, but the point is that while some find the quirky video clips on YouTube 'great fun', others will consider them something of a time waste (and you have perhaps moved into that group). They're not the "be all, and end all" of life, just a snapshot of life, and of limited significance in the greater scheme of things. As someone else said, it may be worth taking some time out with a good book... it is easy to find things a little boring if one always visits the same sites and sees the same 'funny' clips or whatever.

After 30 years in IT I am actually far from bored as I've seen the growth of computing and the internet, of course. With technology constantly changing, and my work (doing websites, databases and programming) I try to keep on the pulse and therefore spend up to 18 hours a day on the web, viewing news articles and trying new products and services out.

I also want to thank the contributor for the list of links... I've been involved with websites for over 10 years and that CSS link looks to be one which will need some time to digest - I've "put off" using CSS for some time, but that looks to be one of the more user-friendly "how-to" pages of the lot!!

  12. QUESTION:
How Do I Play Videos From Frostwire On My XBOX 360?
I've downloaded some movies from FrostWire and am trying to play them on my XBOX 360. I stream the files from my PC to my XBOX but not all the videos I have downloaded will play on the 360. Its a good tablet with over 60k of which almost 23k are free apps. Most of the famous games are on the app store while more can be sidealoaded from google play store. The battery life is about 11 hours. Videos actually stream faster than most of the devices including iPad. Music library is great.

  18. QUESTION:
Can I get a free hosting service that supports wordpress?
I was wondering if I could get a free website and then use wordpress on it. For example, say I get a free website off webs and then try to install wordpress on it. If it's possible. Anyway, thnaks for your time :) I would have any free web hoster, as long as it supports wordpress.
    :)

    • ANSWER:
Certainly, there are tons of sites that will host wordpress. What you want to do is Google "free web hosting", then go to one of them an look at the table of sites. http://www.free-webhosts.com/ is one such comparison site, but that's just an example.

You will need php, which pretty much everyone has nowadays. Also look for MySQL, which is also common, but not ubiquitous. A site with "no forced advertisements" is nice, too.

When you look at the sites, be on the lookout for "Fantastico" or "One-click installer". Sometimes a site will list a one-click installer for WordPress - then you know for sure it's suitable.

A word of caution - ALL free hosts go down from time to time, no matter how much they deny it. As long as you're ok with your blog being offline for a day or few days at a time, you'll be fine.

I personally picked two hosting services that had MODEST offerings, which would be quite enough for a personal blog. The trouble with a free host that will just let anybody in to put up whatever they want, with large space and high bandwidth - well, that host won't last. My opinion is someone will come in and try to stream illegal movies or something, and ruin it for everybody. That's the lesson that I learned from fh50.com - they are no more.

So what did I pick? hostcell.net, because they made me write a little essay on what I planned to do with the site, and a human reviewed it. Hopefully, that discourages scammers, and fly-by-night schemes. Also I tried heliohost.org, which limits its registrations to a low number each day. At first, I couldn't get in, but eventually I was signed up. This tells me that they're managing their site well. Also, they had restrictions on content, no nudity period (not just porn, anything). To me, that means they're less likely to get subpoenaed and shut down by the authorities gathering evidence on someone shady.

  19. QUESTION:
When will sprint be announcing the full price for the HTC EVO 4g without contract?
i would like to know what the full price of the htc evo without contract and i would like to know when sprint will be releasing that information.
    does anyone know?

    • ANSWER:
Sprint released that information a couple of weeks ago, the phone is 0 no contract, the release date is June 4th, It will be .99 plan for the phone which includes the surcharge (the is not for 4G but for the fact that this phone is a media center and it will enable you to use much more data than normal, streaming movies from Your computer, video calls, watching Youtube HQ, plus you don't have to worry about the 5GB data cap that other companies offer on their "unlimited" data plans)

Umm you can use the Quik application to stream video to somebody on a computer for free, but apparently Quik is trying to charge people /month to use the video phone service, luckily there are other options. Fring just came out with something that allows you to do the same thing for free.

The mobile hotspot feature (which allows you to provide wifi signal for up to 8 devices) is 29.99 monthly if you want it, but there are supposedly other options that don't have that monthly price.

It's being shipped with Android 2.1, Android 2.2 (Froyo or Frozen Yogurt) is about to be officially released and HTC said that they will be working on upgrading the EVO to that version later this year.

The HTC EVO 4G has already been rooted but directions are not up for it yet.

I've tried to put up all the main info about the phone for you to review, let me know if I've missed anything that you're interested in.

  24. QUESTION:
Netflix Streaming still possible with weak wireless signal ? what's the minimum speed ?
My wireless bluray player is far from the router-G. I am only able to get a weak signal of ~16mb/s. Will this be a problem for streaming Netflix ?

Do the bluray players have buffer that would isolate it from fluctuation in wi-fi signal strength ?

    • ANSWER:
Good luck....I just went thru 2 afternoons of trying to get a wireless network to watch netflix.

I upgraded my service to 3 gb and it works on the laptop but not the tv.

Called Samsung support and they had me reset the blu ray...It connected once but would not download the updates.

Finally I bought a 50 foot ethernet cable and laid it on the floor and in 3 minutes the network was connected and I was looking at a movie.

The wireless works according to reviews but if you have too many walls, doors or concrete in the path, the wireless signal won't get there. Also, other wireless products you own affect the blu rays network.

I am glad I went with the ethernet cable because I haven't had any movies stop running. Can you imagine how mad you would get if the movies stopped or slowed down by using wireless.

  27. QUESTION:
Should I get the Nook Tablet or the Amazon Kindle Fire?
    Pros? Cons? D=
I also have a question since I don't really know much about these things. What is "cloud storage" and what does it mean that it's unlimited?

    • ANSWER:
Cloud storage means a place other that your device where you can store your stuff online to have an access anytime via WiFi. Its more like your online hard disk which would not use your device memory.

Why should you consider Nook tablet?

-- Screen. Nook Tablet might have a significantly better screen.
-- Free Books. Easier to get free books on Nook Tablet though you can also get all those books on Kindle Fire (with a little more effort).
-- It’s future-proof to a much larger extent. More on that below.
-- Memory for storage and Memory Expansion.
      -- Weight.
-- Support from Outside and Format Support.
      -- Store Customer Service.

Why you should consider Kindle fire:

-- Price – this might be the Kindle Fire’s biggest advantage.
      -- New Books. Slightly.
-- Prime Program. This is very specific – If you’re a Prime member, then that might make Kindle Fire very compelling because of the free streaming and the 1 free book a month offer (out of a limited set of movies and books, respectively).
-- Music, if you buy from Amazon (due to better integration).
-- Size. Kindle Fire is slightly more compact.
      -- Faster Browsing.
-- Apps. In the long-term, the B&N store might pull ahead because it is focused on apps for just one device. Amazon’s App Store caters to a lot of different devices and also to Android phones.
      -- App Prices.
-- Cloud Storage. B&N will have this too but Amazon is best of breed in Cloud Storage.
-- Display Strength. An underrated advantage.
      -- Customer Service.

From my bookmarks here is a good review after which I decided to get Kindle fire:

    • ANSWER:

      - Free cloud storage

  29. QUESTION:
Pros and cons of the Kindle Fire? Should I buy it now or wait?
Hello. I'm interested in getting a kindle fire. Please tell me pros and cons about it, and should i buy it now or wait?

    • ANSWER:
The pros and cons of the Kindle Fire are straightforward and are listed below. If you¡¦re interested in a more in depth opinion, check out this user comment:

      http://www.amazon.com/review/RMQ74XXFNSY6O/?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B0051VVOB2&nodeID=&tag=nbest-20&sourceid=nb.ds&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

      Pros:

      - The Amazon eco-system: you have access to the Amazon app store, video, music and cloud storage. This is huge! Anything you buy through Amazon can be stored in the cloud for free.
      - The Silk Browser: it is fast and easy to use plus it adapts to your browsing behavior so it only gets easier as you use it more.
      - With Amazon Prime, you get unlimited video streaming of over 10,000 TV shows and movies, plus you can borrow thousands of e-books for free and even lend your e-books to friends for up to 14 days.
      - The low price! You can always check out the latest price here:

      http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0051VVOB2/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=nbest-20&sourceid=nb.ds&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0051VVOB2

      Cons:

      - There have been some lemons reported: overheating, crashing, just outright dying. Amazon¡¦s customer service is good though so you should be able to get a true lemon replaced.
      - There are issues with WiFi that are still being worked out.
      - The on board storage is only 8GB and there is no external device storage, only cloud storage, but seriously free cloud storage is terrific.
      - Smallish screen at just 7 inches.
      - Most Android apps are being rejected from the Amazon app store at this time, but given the fact that Amazon and Google both have a mutual interest in seeing the Kindle Fire succeed this issue will probably be solved very quickly.

Objectively, the pros obviously outweigh the cons and given the fact that Amazon is known to provide top quality products and customer service there is very little risk to buying a Kindle Fire.

  30. QUESTION:
What is the best 52inch/55inch LCD TV on the market at the moment?
What is the best TV with the following criteria?

    1) Has to be either Sony or Samsung
    2) 52inches or 55 inches
    3) LCD (NOT PLASMA!!!)

When i say best i mean performance wise and reliability wise. cost is not an issue

    • ANSWER:
      Samsung LN46A950 LCD HDTV
The Series 9 HDTVs are the second generation of LCDs to utilize Samsung's LED SmartLighting technology, first available in the now-discontinued 81 Series. This premium Samsung line includes two models, sized at 55 and 46 inches, and adds Samsung's Auto Motion Plus 120Hz technology, which was not offered in the first-generation LED line. We have not performed a hands-on review of the LN46A950, but here is an overview of the TV's features. While a traditional LCD employs a fluorescent backlighting system, this TV uses clusters of LED backlights; the system's local-dimming design allows the LEDs to respond dynamically to the content onscreen, turning off certain LEDs to create deeper blacks in areas of the picture that call for it. Local dimming is more successful than a standard backlight at allowing black areas to look black while still letting bright areas remain bright, which gives the picture excellent contrast. Samsung's LED Motion Plus technology sequentially scans the backlights to help reduce motion blur, and LEDs also lack the mercury found in fluorescents, which makes this a more environmentally friendly TV. The 46-inch, 1080p LN46A950 also features Samsung's Auto Motion Plus 120Hz technology to further reduce motion blur and to reduce judder in film-based sources. The 46LNA950 uses an Ultra Clear Panel designed to reject ambient light to help improve contrast and black levels in brighter viewing environments. It also sports Samsung's Touch of Colour design, with a patterned charcoal-gray accent colour around the edge of the gloss-black cabinet.

The generous connection panel includes four HDMI, two component video, and one PC input, plus an RF input to access the internal ATSC, NTSC, and Clear-QAM tuners. The HDMI inputs accept both 1080p/60 and 1080p/24 signals, and one is located on the side panel for easy access. Picture-in-picture functionality is available. Samsung has also included a number of connections that will appeal to the digital photo/music fan and Web user: Enjoy MP3s, JPEGs, and digital video via the side-panel USB port; or, thanks to the addition of an Ethernet port, you can stream digital content from a PC or DLNA-certified server. The Ethernet port also lets you utilize Samsung's InfoLink RSS service to access news, stock, and weather information. The TV has onboard flash memory and comes preloaded with artwork, recipes, games, children's music, and more.

Samsung has incorporated a number of video and audio adjustments to fine-tune the TV's performance. In addition to three picture modes (dynamic, standard, and movie), five colour-temperature options, and digital noise reduction, the LN46A950's menu features advanced white-balance, gamma, and fleshtone controls, plus multiple colour spaces with the ability to independently adjust six colour points. Samsung has added a Blue-Only mode that makes it easier to correctly set the TV's color and tint. You can enable or disable LED Motion Plus to address motion blur, while the Auto Motion Plus 120Hz menu offers multiple settings, each of which affects the image quality differently. The off mode simply repeats frames to create 120Hz (which many film purists prefer), while the low, medium, and high modes perform varying degrees of motion interpolation to create smoother movement with film-based sources. Using LED Motion Plus and Auto Motion Plus together will most effectively reduce motion blur. The LN46A950 has six aspect ratios, including a Just Scan mode that displays 1080i/1080p sources with no overscan.

On the audio side, the menu includes five preset sound modes, and an equalization feature lets you further tweak various frequencies within each mode. SRS TruSurround XT processing is offered, and an Auto Volume function reduces level variations between TV shows and commercials.

The LN46A950 also features three entertainment modes called sports, cinema, and games; each offers fixed video and audio settings meant to suit that type of entertainment. So, if you don't wish to wade through all the video and audio parameters we just described, you can simply select an entertainment mode and let the TV make the adjustments for you.

      High Points
      • The local-dimming LED backlight system allows this LCD to produce better blacks and have a better overall contrast than many traditional LCD TVs.
      • The second-generation LED models add Auto Motion Plus 120Hz technology, which effectively reduces motion blur and offers multiple settings to tailor the motion to your liking. Those who do not like the effects of Auto Motion Plus motion interpolation can instead use the LED Motion Plus feature to reduce motion blur, or you can use both technologies together for best results.
      • The Ultra Clear Panel's reflective screen does help blacks look darker and create better contrast in a room with some ambient lighting.
      • This TV has a 1080p resolution and will accept 24p sources via its HDMI inputs.
      • The TV has numer

  32. QUESTION:
Why doesn't my Acer Aspire 5532 play 1080p movies properly?
They play in slow in every player and I have most codecs. This was a very expensive laptop!

    • ANSWER:
Both the other guys have good answers. aniceto is right, you will need the proper codec. There are tons of codecs, but the klite he mentioned is a good package. It is reliable and safe. Saying you have "most codecs" is a BIG clue to part of your issues. MORE is NOT better!!! Saying you "have most codecs" is a CLEAR indicator that you probably have all sorts of junk on your drive., MOST codec packs come bundled with spyware and with backend processes that suck up your resources. Because it was part of the codec pack, your antimalware program will ignore it. This extra junk may be a good reason why video looks bad on your system.
Just stick with one or two good reliable codecs. The different packs work against each other. When I was a beginning computer user over 15 years ago, I did the typical newbie mistake and I loaded my computer with just about everything that got a good review somewhere. Alot of beginners also think it is a good idea to use more than one antivirus or more than one or two toolbars in IE. Having more than one or two codec packs is a sure sign of a beginning computer user (that's why you got an acer too, isn't it?) Don't worry, we all start somewhere. FIRST, get rid of all the junk, then run a registry cleaner, this may solve your issue.

You haven't told us which media player you're using. Try a different one, but download everything under the sun.

You didn't tell us which codec you're using. They are not created eual. Why not recompile it with VC1 instead of say h.264. The VC1 is much less processor intensive and as I stated elsewhere, because you were shipped with 2G ramm, you probably have a low end processor.

Sam has a good answer coming from a different direction. He is right, you need all three elements. But I would add a fourth. A decent screen. Your computer screen is only 1366 x 768

      BUT
you haven't told us how you're watching this video. Are you watching from a blueray? Your computer didn't ship with blueray so you don't have either the hardware OR the proper codecs to watch. Remember a set top bluray player used hardware decoding a computer uses software decoding. It is NOT the same quality.

Are you watching streaming hd from a service like netflicks? If so, your issue is probably your ISP, your modem or your router. Do a speed check first, what speed down can you get? Reboot your modem first (probably NOT the issue) and reboot your router second. Routers have FIFO buffers that don't always clear. To watch 1080, you're going to need alot of bandwidth.

Are you watching video from something like bearshare or crimewire? If so, just because they POST that it was ripped at 1080, does not mean that you can watch it. most forms of digital rights management schemes including "protected mdia path" which is a part of vista AND win7 have restrictions (like rescaling of video resolutions and disabling analog audio outputs).
Watching a video from any P2P is dependant on how many sources are feeding and how little you are seeding. Obviously if you will exceed the buffer on even the fastest of connections. Even if you saved it to your library, that doesn't mean that it didn't have glitches from the rip, the compression to save the file or from the upload or and download. If you saved it to your hard drive, remember a 5532 has a very slow hard drive with a very small buffer.

Your screen is only 1366 x 768 pixel resolution. Second your video is a low to low-mid end ati 3200 card which uses SHARED ramm. Your card only has 256 descrete so most of what you need is shared with whatever else you're using. In theory, that should be enough to play 1080p if nothing else is using your ramm. The reality is you're more likly to be able to play 1080i. On the ATI website, you will see that they don't say the CHIP is capable of 1080p, they say the PORT is 1080 capable. This is a game MANY manufacturers are playing, not just acer. The ATI 3200 uses only UDV more than TWO versions behind current. Check the wiki article below.

Turn off all the applications and the devices that you don't need in msconfig or in device manager, they are draining your computer. It is especially important to turn off P2P software because they are feeding as well as seeding.

There is also the issue of motherboard and power regulator on the board. If the current draw is too high, you've going to have issues. Again, you've got a motherboard that was sourced to acer. While there is always one bad board in every batch, a mobo subcontractor knows who to dump their weak boards to. Better brands will have more units tested and will have higher specs with tighter tolerances expected. High demand video will also produce more heat from the cpu, the gpu and from the ramm. The fans will need to shed this heat, further dropping current. Of course make sure your vents aren't blocked and put it on a notebook cooler, but get the power from another usb device like a powered hub, not from your computer. This is yet another reason why video (and games) is always better on a desktop than a notebook even if they have the same specs.

Your computer only shipped with 2G RAMM ddr2, Of course Sam and I assume that you have already upgraded to 4G (I gave him a thumbs up for a good answer). Because your system shipped with only2G ramm, it is unlikely that it came with one of the better processors. That model came shipped with multiple processors including single core procs.
I would also make sure that DXVA is enabled. make sure mkv and mka files are not associated with windows media player. Keep your EVR buffers small.

If you are trying to watch on an external TV, your mobo/video combo may allow you to do it for a while, but you are really pushing your system. An acer is NOT the same as a reliable brand. Even on the best brands, it isn't a good idea to output high quality to external too much. Even on a good brand, it will stress the mobo/video card. You will shorten the life expectancy of the motherboard. If your motherboard goes, it will be cheaper for you to buy a whole new computer than to replace the board. Remember, you have an acer. Ask the IT guy at your work or your school, we will verify that acers are not the same as other brands. You will pretty much never see an us with an acer unless it is a black friday special. We consider them like the commercial a few years back, "you can pay me now, or you can pay me later". Acers are a few dollars cheaper at the time of initial purchace. there is a reason. You will usually see us carrying a dell, hp, compaq, toshiba, mac, asus or lennovo.

If you're trying to watch 1080P, why not just watch it off a settop bluray player? They are totally cheap now. There is the added advantage that HDMI is NOT a robust connector and it is very easy to damage the male AND female sides. It is common to trip over a cable. My friends with shops say it is COMMON to replace mobos because someone was watching movies on their tv. Again it you damage the connector, you will need to pay for a whole new motherboard or buy a new computer. One of the reasons you see so many used computers for sale with hdmi is because it was more expensive to fix than to replace so they sold it to the repair shop for cheap, who then repaired it. Becareful watching video on a laptop. Make sure all your friends don't walk by your computer.

Here are the List of the Websites from Where you can Watch Full Length Movies:

      1. Hulu:

Hulu is a website that offers free, ad-supported streaming video of TV shows and movies from NBC, FOX, and others. Hulu provides video in Flash Video format in a higher resolution and bit-rate than YouTube, but lower than standard-definition television, though many films are available in 480p.

      2. Watch-movies:

Watch-Movies.net is a great resource site to find the latest Hollywood movies online, they provide users with reviews and user feedbacks on the movies, along with providing users with several links to watch or download the movies.

      3. Joox:

Joox is a great site for watching movies online although Joox does not host any movies on their servers. They have a great collection of latest English movies. You will need to install the DivX Plugin to watch movies. Joox offers download links of movies.

      4. Surf The Channel:

Online destination for streaming popular TV content for free. Freely stream TV shows, movies, documentaries, anime shows etc.

      5. IMDB:

IMDB, also known as the Internet Movie Database, has added free full length movies and TV shows to its’ already large and informative site. As of this writing (October 2008), there were only about one hundred movies available; however, they are all hosted on the site and in good quality.

      6. Joost:

Joost makes it very easy for you to view free full length movies on the Web - just click to their film section and you’re pretty much all set. Nicely organized by category and each movie is in very high quality.

      7. QuickSilverScreen:

QuickSilverScreen (QSS) is an online video streaming service where you can stream movies (some new but mostly old), TV Shows (24, Family Guy, …), documentary movies and lots of other video content for free. QSS also lists dozens of regular TV channels, i.e. MTV, ESPN, CNN, AlJazeera, BBC, NBS, and so on. We have profiled dozens of similar TV-Show / Movie websites before, however QSS seems to lead the way when it comes to video stream quality. Most of the videos are in DivX format.

      8. Babelgum:

      babelgum

Babelgum has plenty of great free full length movies; however, you’re going to have to do a little bit of sleuthing in order to find them.

      9. ThePirateCity:

ThePirateCity is a newly launched website where you can watch movies online without downloading. You can search for movies, browse them alphabetically or by category such as Action/Adventure, Drama, Children/Family, Horror/Thriller, Comedy, Sci-Fi/Fantasy and Others. The website lists plenty of popular movie titles.

      10. Freetube:

Freetube is quite different from the rest of the sites profiled in this list. Instead of individual movies, Freetube offers streaming channels from which you can watch a free full length movie: it’s just not certain what you’re going to get! Channels offered are The Movie Channel, Free Classics, the Mystery Channel, and quite a few more. All movies are in reasonably good quality; my only beef is that there should be some kind of viewing schedule available.

      11. Reoro:

Reoro.com is a Moviesite made for people who want to watch Populair and NOT boring Movies, TV-shows & Documentaries. Reoro.com is completely legal, because the video’s are hosted on another website.

  38. QUESTION:
Are these wireless routers 1 time charge or monthly?
    http://reviews.cnet.com/best-wireless-routers/

Wants to know if the 0~200 price is 1 time charge or monthly...
Planning to switch from my AT&T 2 wire router to a much faster one.
Unfortunately it's too slow for 6 laptops and 5 smartphones.

If monthly how much will it be?
And since my phone provider/line is AT&T will that affect the above routers being charged a certain monthly payment?

    • ANSWER:
A wireless router does not provide Internet access.

You must buy a wireless router and also pay a monthly fee to a ISP for Internet service.

      Here is how it works:

A router connects two separate networks and manage the traffic between them.

A wireless router enables you to provide wireless (WiFi) Internet access to all of your WiFi enabled devices such as laptops, game consoles, cell phones and tablets, etc.

In most home network applications the router connects your local group of computers and devices known as the LAN with the Internet, commonly called the WAN or Wide Area Network.

Without a ISP to provide the WAN connection, your home network devices can share files and resources via the router's LAN connections, but wont be able to access the Internet.

A faster router or modem will not make your Internet faster.

Your WAN speed is determined by your ISP and is measured in Mbps (Millions of bits per second).

For example if you pay for a 3 Mbps DSL Internet connection, you will get 3 Mbps.

No router or modem will change your 3 Mbps Internet speed.

This Internet connection bandwidth is shared by your entire LAN via your router.

For example if you have a 3 Mbps DSL plan and one user is utilizing 2.5 Mbps of the bandwidth to stream a Netflix movie that only leaves 0.5 Mbps for all of the rest of the users on the LAN.

Fast routers are designed to stream large files on your LAN quickly. The high speed routers permit fast transfer of files between devices connected to your LAN, however WAN speed is still limited by your ISP.

For a faster Internet connection you must get a faster plan from your ISP or change to a ISP that provides faster plans.

You can check your Internet speed here: http://speedtest.net

For your number of users I would recommend a minimum of 10 Mbps, preferably 25 Mbps+.

      Good Luck...

  39. QUESTION:
I have a dsl service but when I watch movie from free websie it stop about 2 sec, and it start again?

    • ANSWER:
I had same problem. I solved it by upgrading from the basic Express package to the faster Pro Internet package. You probably need to clock about 2 Mb/s downstream or faster on your connection.

Sometimes the the free websites can not keep up with the demand and the pausing is caused by free website.

      Per Yahoo Help
      http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/video/troubleshooting/trouble013.html

If your player is skipping, your selected bandwidth might be too high for your actual Internet connection. You need to lower your bandwidth setting. On the player, in the upper left-hand section is the "Preferences" link. Clicking it will present you with the different bandwidth options available. Selecting a lower bitrate than the currently displayed bitrate will restart the video at a lower bandwidth setting. This should prevent skipping.

Streaming video over the Internet requires a great deal of bandwidth, and unfortunately connections slower than 100k connections are not fast enough to give you a dependable video experience. Your best viewing experience will occur with a DSL, cable modem, or T1 Internet connection with speeds greater than 300k.

  40. QUESTION:
Has anyone tried renting movies from Netflix ?
    http://www.netflix.com/

I would like to know if it is worth it or not? please i need info before i signup !

    • ANSWER:
I love Netflix. Love it. With all but the absolute bottom-line cheap subscription choices, you get unlimited streamed viewing of movies and TV shows right over your computer. They have numerous choices for subscriptions (1 at a time, 2 at a time ... 8 at a time?) and you can keep as long as you like, no late charges. There are thousands of reviews so you can see whether or not you might like to rent something. They also have a trial period so you can check it out to see if it's something you will want, before you commit.

I get my movies in 2 days, and when I return them, Netflix gets them in about 2 days. That's the norm, rarely does it take longer. I have had one single episode of the wrong disc being sent, and 2 episodes of a cracked or unplayable disc, and that's in over 2 *years* of subscribing. Their customer service was quick and helpful, and replaced the discs immediately. They have a very efficient help service.

Perhaps others have not had as good of luck as I have, but my experience with them has been overwhelmingly positive.

  44. QUESTION:
can I replace my comcast router with one I buy?
I am just wondering if a better router is avalible and can I use a non comcast router with my cable internet

    • ANSWER:
Yes you can, however "better" is a relative question.

It depends on your tier of Comcast online service. Here is their list of compatible cable modems. http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/

As far as speed goes a fast modem or router will usually not increase Internet speed with one exception.

If you buy an older DOCSIS 2.0 model cable modem and you are paying for a speed tier over 20 Mbps. then you will probably not see the throughput that you should.

Be sure to get a newer compatible DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem that supports bonded channels and will increase your cable Internet performance for high end speed tiers.

Two types of Internet devices are commonly sold.

      1. Combination modem / routers, often called gateways.

      2. Stand alone routers which can be connected to a stand alone modem.

DSL and Cable modems use different technology, for this reason you can't use a cable gateway (DOCSIS) with DSL or use a DSL gateway (ADSL2+) with a cable Internet connection.

A highly rated DOCSIS 3.0 cable gateway is the Motorola SBG6580. It is currently about 0 at Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0040IUI46/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=excharge-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0040IUI46

You could also buy a standalone cable modem and connect it to a separate wireless router.

You don't have to buy your modem, router or gateway from your ISP, you can get one from a local retailer such as BestBuy or Fry's or online from places like Amazon.

As far as the brand goes, the brand is not as important as the model. Some manufacturers release a good model but the next is crap. I would look at the Amazon reviews of models that interest you. Even if you don't buy from Amazon the reviews will tell you a lot about which models to avoid. Look for at least 20 or more reviews with at least a 4 star rating. Read a few and see if they sound like the particular model will work for your application.

Most cable Internet providers use the cable modem's MAC address to activate the modem.

Every device that has a network interface has a unique MAC (Media Access Control) address. This is usually expressed in hexadecimal such as 10:25:A4:59:EF:1C

You'll have to call your cable provider with the MAC of the new modem so they can activate it on your account. The MAC address is usually printed on a sticker attached to the modem.

      That being said,

A fast router or cable modem does not make your Internet faster.

A router connects two separate networks and manage the traffic between them.

In most home network applications the router connects your local group of computers and devices known as the LAN with the Internet, commonly called the WAN or Wide Area Network.

Your WAN speed is determined by your ISP and is measured in Mbps (Millions of bits per second).

If you pay for a 3 Mbps Internet connection, you will get 3 Mbps.

No router or modem will change your 3 Mbps Internet speed. This connection bandwidth is shared by your entire LAN via your router.

If you have a 3 Mbps Internet plan and one user is utilizing 2.5 Mbps of the bandwidth to stream a Netflix movie that only leaves 0.5 Mbps for all of the rest of the users on the LAN.

Fast wireless routers and adapters are designed to stream large files on your LAN quickly. The high speed routers permit fast transfer of files between devices connected to your LAN, however WAN speed is still limited by your ISP.

You can test your Internet (WAN) speed here: http://speedtest.net

Only way to speed up Internet connection is to get a faster plan or ISP.

You'll want to pick the fastest plan that fits your budget. In some areas this can be 300 Mbps+. But these high end broadband plans are expensive. You may find that something in the 5 to 50 Mbps range might satisfy your needs at a much lower cost.

      Good Luck..

  46. QUESTION:
    Should I buy a xbox 360 or a PS3?
I have the money for a 360 right now, but I can make more for a PS3. People tell me I should buy the ps3 and others 360. What should I buy thanks.

    • ANSWER:
      Xbox 360: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/

      Pros:

      Hardware:
Three different types of 360's to purchase, the 360 Arcade, Pro, or Elite. Their fairly cheap for being a great console, each giving you different choices in price, backwards compatability, and playing in High-Definition. Removeable harddrive, 2 Memory Card slots, 2 USB ports, ethernet port, wireless port, dvd player. Many accessories ranging from wired chargers to new faceplates & HDMI DVD Player. Wired controllers (also work on PC) along with the battery munching wireless controllers. ( Just buy Energizer rechargeables, with the charger, you'll be set for 2 years). Ever since the fall update, the 360 has got itself keyboard support, which really helps out when your IMing, or just signing up for Live.

      Software:
A huge list of different games, some exclusives. A giant list of Xbox Originals keeps getting updated for backwards compatability, see this link for the list. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/back...ygameslist.htm

      Online Service:
Downloadable Movies, Tv shows, Music Videos, Game videos, and shorts. Downloadable Game Demos, Live Arcade, Xbox Originals, dashboard themes, gamerpictures, Game add-ons, and much more.3 different ways to pay for online, friends list, chat & IM, online tournaments, Gamertag, player reputation, achievements, ability to play music while playing online, or offline. Windows media center compatable, for streaming music/video (if you can't fit it on your harddrive), Xbox Live Vision (camera for playing UNO, Texas hold em' etc...).

      Cons:

      Hardware:
Everybody knows the failure rate of the 360 at launch due to overheating, freezing etc... it was about I heard in the mid 30's, which a console should be below 5%. You'll never know when yours is ready to kick the bucket. But fortunately, the warrenties were extended for 3 years and repair services seemed to work. Microsoft makes you buy a lot of add on accessories just to keep you gaming, such as the wired charger, great device, but it shouldn't be necessary! The AA batteries should be able to last long enough, instead their gobbled up by your wireless controller. Some idiots try to fix the 360 with towells, which work for a week then your fucked. Basically thats just the biggest problem for the 360 but now the hardware failure is A LOT lower than it was. Also, the Live headset that comes with the Pro is worthless, it will break after a month, best thing to do there is get the wireless one, works great, never fails.

      Software:
Everybody hates to spend .00 on a game, when sometimes the game BLOWS. Fortunately theres a fix to this, and it's called www.gamefly.com , or you could just read reviews on the internet and see for yourself. Ever since "next-gen" graphics the price has been raised but thats what we get if we want beautiful games I guess...

      Online Service:
Yes Xbox Live is an excellent service, but why the fuck is it .00/year?! Well the answere to that is greedy Microsoft, and its just a good service, but it lacks a couple things. 1 It doesn't have an internet browser, 2 M$ gives you tainted updates (Fall, they shouldda really tested it better), 3 ESRB fucks you over if your under 18 for downloading M rated demos, M= 17+, but they want you to turn 18 to play M rated games, which makes no mutherfucking sense at all.

      *************************************************

      Playstation 3: http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/landing.aspx#

      Pros:

Hardware: One of its biggest +'s is the slick, black sexy design & chrome trim Sony gave it. A very nice 40/80GB harddrive, plus lets not forget about the(whats the touch power button called), it's one of the newer additions to any next-gen console and its virtually silent without overheating. Unlike the Xbox 360, their controllers DON'T use batteries, they have a USB cable (also many usb ports) that you just charge when your not playing! Some other features include the Playstation 2 compatability(software emulatioin), SACD support, flash card readers, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, a slot-loading 2x speed Blu-ray Disc drive for games, Blu-ray movies, DVDs, CDs, and other optical media, and numerous accessories for the console have been developed for the system, including the wireless Sixaxis controller, the BD Remote, the PlayStation Eye camera and the upcoming PlayTV DVB-T tuner/digital video recorder accessory.

Software: As for games, we all know that the Xbox 360 dominated 06' & 07', but contrary to popular belief, everyone thinks its time for the Playstation 3's comeback to start in 08'. The game list line-up its incredibly impressive (see link for FULL list of games http://forum.ebaumsworld.com/showthread.php?t=240226).

Online Service: The number one thing is most definitally is that Playstation Network is FREE. Everyone loves the built-in internet browser, Wi-Fi, and media card readerscheck for browsing the internet and viewing it from your tv! You can also load various Operating Systems such as Lin

  47. QUESTION:
Best place to buy a nook tablet comprable to kindle fire but it looks better.?
Simply need to know if the nook is the same price as the fire is now or close and which I should get

    • ANSWER:
Review on Kindle Fire HD vs Nook HD, should help on this decision:
      http://www.amazon.com/forum/kindle/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&cdForum=Fx1D7SY3BVSESG&cdThread=Tx2FJU0YL31XLLN&creative=390957&linkCode=ur2&tag=adkisd-20

Both are pretty much same, but Kindle Fire HD has an edge in some places like:
      - It has front facing HD camera
      - Amazon content and services (Amazon prime and cloud storage)
      - Xray for movies
      - Dual wifi antenna for faster streaming
      - 16Gb storage in the same price (Nook HD 8Gb and KF 16Gb)

On the other hand Nook HD has the microSD card and 1440*900 pixels which is kind of the highest resolution for a 7" Tablet.

      Kindle Fire HD:

  48. QUESTION:
are there any good indonesian movies/dramas/ tv shows that are good?
i'm learning indo, and i want to improve so i want to watch some of their shows/movies...only problem is that i can't find any on the web and i don't know to look for.

please include a little bit of what its about. all answers are welcome :)

    • ANSWER:
      Just don't watch:
      1. (Serial) dramas (they probably easier to understand but is veeeeeeeeeery long and boring).
      2. Ghost/scary movies <-- even half of the Indonesians hate this... I have no idea why it's still being produced. Here are a few titles I can remember: Kick Andy (show, like Oprah) http://www.kickandy.com/ <-- click on the "video streaming" Quickie Express (movie) <-- I like this one. Comedy, about 3 friends, they become Gigolos to make easy money. Laskar Pelangi (movie) Ada Apa Dengan Cinta (movie) 30 Hari Mencari Cinta (movie) Those two I haven't watched yet... but many people say it's good, and "cinta" means "love", so you know what it's about lol. You can select from the list here: http://id.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daftar_film_Indonesia Don't search the red font, most probably you won't find it on the internet (besides, it doesn't even have a review anyways, you don't expect it to be good, do you?) If you still don't have enough, just search "daftar film indonesia" (with or without quotes) on Google... it means "indonesian movie list"... someone's gotta have a good list. You can also watch Indonesian TV's streaming here http://www.binus-access.com/our-services/bee-watch.html (though I don't know if it's accessible from outside of Indonesia or not). Click on one of these " RCTI | Trans TV | Global TV | Trans 7 | TV One | Metro TV " that's actually the name of Indonesian TV stations. Good luck :)

  49. QUESTION:
What tablet would be best for my 13 year old daughter?
She said she wants a Kindle Fire HD

    • ANSWER:
Review on Kindle Fire HD from a user, should be helpful:

If she is pretty specific that she wants a Kindle Fire HD then you should buy that tablet. Its a good tablet BTW.

      It has features like:
      - Dual wifi antenna, great for streaming movies and videos
      - The digital dolby audio speakers are better than most of the devices.
      - HDMI out
      - Front facing HD camera
      - Amazon content and services
      - Xray for movies
      - Free cloud storage
      - 1.2Ghz dual core HD processor
      - 1280*800 HD Display

      Cons:
      - Apps store is limited to amazon so it has about 60k apps (You can sideload apps)
      - No rear facing camera

Its the best bang for buck.
