      Director : S.S.Rajamouli
      Producer : Suresh Babu
      Music Director : M.M. Keeravani
      Starring: Nani, Samantha, Sudeep
Before I begin this review, I would like to take a moment to salute Mr. S.S.Rajamouli for coming up with an entertainer that has pushed the boundaries of our filmmaking. Eega makes us all proud to be a part of the Telugu Film Industry.
‘Eega’ has released across the world today in a big way and the movie has been directed by S.S.Rajamouli. Music has been scored by Keeravani and the film has Samantha,Nani and Sudeep in lead roles. Let us see how the movie is.
      Story:
Nani(Nani) lives opposite the house of Bindu (Samantha) and he is madly in love with her. Bindu is a miniature artist and a social worker who runs an NGO. She too loves him, but never expresses it to Nani and prefers to keep him guessing. As time goes by, Sudeep (Sudeep) comes into Bindu’s life as a very rich benefactor of Bindu’s NGO and he starts coveting her.
Sudeep is a cruel guy by nature and he does not hesitate to kill. When he comes to know of Nani’s love for Bindu, he brutally kills off Nani. A dying Nani comes to know that Bindu too loves him and this strong love for Bindu causes him to be reborn as an Eega.
The rest of the story is about how the Eega conveys who he is to Bindu and about how they take revenge on Sudeep together.
      Plus Points:
The movie has some outstanding performances but Sudeep takes the cake. He is terrific as the villainous guy and his screen presence is riveting. Sudeep is a major asset for the movie.
Samantha comes up with a good performance and she looks very cute in the movie. Her interaction sequences with the Eega are heartwarming.
Nani delivers a humorous and spirited performance in the brief role that he has. He has good comedy timing. Srinivasa Reddy and Thagubothu Ramesh bring a few laughs.
S.S. Rajamouli’s direction and screenplay deserve special mention. The story moves along at a terrific pace and the buildup to the interval is amazing. Good humour and solid drama keep viewers deeply involved in the film. The special effects are of very high quality and they have never been seen in Telugu Cinema before.
The emotional struggle of the Eega and its cute mannerisms will endear it to kids. Don’t be surprised if your kids bug you for an Eega toy after this movie.
The climax block and the way the Eega extracts its revenge will bring whistles and claps from front benchers. Eega also performs Chiranjeevi’s Indra step and Jr NTR’s Yamadonga step during the climax title cards.
      Minus Points:
The second half of the movie dips slightly when compared to the first half. But it picks up again towards the climax.
The aghora element and his supernatural powers could have been used in a more sinister way.
      Technical Aspects:
Keeravani’s background score is terrific and it makes a lot of difference in key scenes. Hats off to him. Editing is crisp and dialogues are neat. Cinematography is decent.
Visual effects and CGI images are of a very high quality and they are worth applauding. Eega’s revenge sequences have been well conceived by Rajamouli and the SFX team
      Verdict:
As I said before, Eega makes us all proud to be a part of the Telugu Film Industry. It is wildly entertaining, hilarious at times and the Eega really endears itself to viewers. Don’t miss out on ‘Eega’. These kind of films don’t come very often.

  4. QUESTION:
Are Tamil movies making waves on foreign shores?
    A fillip for Tamil cinema
    http://www.thehindu.com/arts/cinema/article3820994.ece

It is no secret that South Indian films, Tamil movies in particular, are gaining wider acceptance in several international film festivals. Bollywood may be the face of Indian cinema, but it is Kollywood that is making waves on foreign shores. Consequently, it was only natural for a person of Hannah Fisher’s stature to spend two valuable days in the home of Tamil cinema, Chennai, to meet people for a special feature — SAFF Memories Project — which will be part of the inaugural South Asian Film Festival (SAFF Canada) to be held in Vancouver, Surrey and Abbotsford from October 31 to November 3, 2012.

Days before the May opening of the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, the director of the first Bollywood film invited for an official screening gave a shout-out to his colleagues in a long-overlooked arm of the Indian film industry.

“There’s a whole new wave in Tamil cinema,” said Anurag Kashyap, whose film Gangs of Wasseypur was screened at Cannes and the Toronto International Film Festival. “They’ve made the most extraordinary films in the last two years and, at the national level, people don’t even know about it.”

Spread across southeastern India, northeastern Sri Lanka and other parts of Southeast Asia, the Tamils number some 65 million people and possess one of the world’s oldest cultures. But in Hindi-dominated India, they — and their movies — are usually ignored or dismissed.

    • ANSWER:
In India, regional language films are totally ignored by bollyhood & the central Government as if they lack technical knowledge and way of telling the story. But in actual practice, films in Tamil &Telugu etc is getting popularity due to commercial viability and the application of modern technology.Government should realize this and try to treat these films at par with Hindi films.Tamil film producers should try to enhance the true value of the story and music to suit all categories of the public.

I fully vouch your viewpoint....Bollywood these days contains only masala, love and sub standard comedy - mish mash kind of movies which always has a happy ending,it looks too artificial and mediocre, the biggest hits in bollywood 2012 are all south remakes.Tamil industry is brilliant in music and technical stuff,Malayalam movies have a great plot and storyline with brilliant acting,Telugu movies have good family entertainment and mass movies...no wonder Mani Ratnam,A.R Rahman,Shankar,Illyaraja, prabhudeva who are the best belong to south however there good film-makers like Gulzar,Ashutosh Gowaritkar,Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Subhash Ghai in the Hindi Industry which has become too mainstream and too commercial -all they are concerned is with the first week results and they go full extent in marketing their movies like eureka forbes salesmen,Mind you people who aree reading this answer I am not against the Bollywood industry but am really disappointed that the quality of cinema is shrinking atleast for those of us with Refined Tastes! have a great day ahead.......

    Vikram Prabhu
    Lakshmi Menon

Gajaraju is a dubbed version of Tamil movie Kumki and it deals with the story around elephants, with hero portraying a mahout. Movie is to be directed by Prema Khaidi fame Prabhu solomon, starring Vikram Prabhu son of actor Prabhu.

Kumki is the launchpad of Vikram Prabhu - the grandson of legendary Sivaji Ganeshan and son of Sivaji Prabhu. He will be seen in the role of a rustic mahout in the upcoming movie, which also features Bangalore-based girl Lakshmi Menon in the female lead role. The film is produced by Bellamkonda Suresh.

    Review : Rating: 3.0/5
Director Prabhu Solomon has earlier rocked the viewers with his beautiful love story Mynaa set in the backdrop of green forests and hills. The director is now back with another story with the same backdrop. In his latest directorial venture Gajaraju, the dubbed version of Kumki, he introduces a new face Vikram Prabhu, grandson of Sivaji Ganeshan and the film is a joyride through the wilds of Tamil Nadu forests. Vote for the best of Tollywood - 2012 Gajaraju is a romance drama and debutant Vikram Prabhu's superb performance is the main highlight of the film. Prabu Solomon's story, screenplay and dialogues, D Imman's music, Sukumar's camera work are the other attractions of the film. One big weakness of the movie is its slow-paced narration. The movie deals with an emotional bonding between a mahout and his elephant. With this as a theme, Prabhu Solomon has delivered a beautiful love story in the wild forest. Although his narration drags in a few place in the film, the director manages to hold the attention of the viewers and keep them engaged. The story is simple, but the director has made it an interesting affair with twists or turns. The story is set in village called Devagiri in the Talakona forest near Chittoor and the small village is often attacked by a rogue elephant. Village head Veeranna (Anantha Vaidyanathan) decides to bring in a Kumki elephant (a trained Indian elephant to counter and tame the rogue tusker). Continue to read the remaining story in the slide show.

  9. QUESTION:
    Is rowdy rathore good movie?

    • ANSWER:
      Movie Review : Rowdy Rathore
      Rating : 3.25 / 5
Banner : Hari Om Entertainment, SLB Films, UTV Motion Pictures
Cast : Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha, Paresh Gantara, Nasser, Jayant Gadekar, Kajal Vashisht, Mushtaq Khan, Yashpal Sharma, Anant Jog, Darshan Jariwala and Others
      Music : Sajid-Wajid
      Cinematographer : Santosh Thundiyil
Producer: Sanjay Bhansali, Ronnie Screwvala, Shabina Khan
      Director: Prabhu Deva
      Released Date: June 01, 2012
Story: A remake tale, the story begins with Shiva (akshay) a conman who falls in love with Priya (sonakshi) and after some wooing, he manages to win her heart. But just when life looks set for him, a six year old girl Neha enters the scene and she believes Shiva is her father. To add to the woes, Shiva keeps getting attacked by a gang of deadly goons. In an attempt to save his life, Shiva comes across one shocking truth which links him to a remote place in Bihar which is terrorized by a ruthless man (nasser). What happens from there forms the rest of the story.
Presentation: The director has come up with a remake storyline and while the presentation was colorful, the narrative was entertaining. The dialogues were witty and serious, the script was balanced and the screenplay was gripping. Background score was effective and three songs were worth. Cinematography was excellent. Editing was crisp but was required at few places. Costumes were natural and perfect while the art department was rich. Akshay Kumar is seen in a double role where he shows his versatility. Sonakshi Sinha looks voluptuous and her oomph factor sizzles. Nasser was extraordinary. Paresh brought few smiles. Mushtaq Khan was hilarious. Yashpal Sharma was impressive. Gurdeep is good. The child artist was cute.

Conclusion: The film is the remake of the Telugu blockbuster Vikramarkudu but then the director has ensured that few changes were made to suit the taste of the native audience. While the first half is filled with entertainment packed with comedy, songs and romance, the second half gets into a total serious mode and has also got some high octane action sequences. Though there are times when the film gets predictable, the pace of the film covers up for it. Overall, this is a film which is the perfect formula for a mass entertainer so it is bound to appeal to the audience. At the box office, the film has success written over it.

verdict: Well made mass masala entertainer
