  2. QUESTION:
Do starsigns in any proven way affect our personalities/characteristics?
In Psychology, we are investigating this theory. I need factual evidence for and against the theory that starsigns reflect on our personalities, characteristics and behaviours...

In my opinion, starsigns have no impact on our personalities and I need factual evidence to support this.

Could you please put down your source of evidence. Thanks :)

    • ANSWER:
      Star Signs
As a teenager I found a description of sign characteristics (related to the position of the sun in ones chart), in a small calendar. I kept the little pages for years to come and compared with whosoever I met whenever possible. I became interested in how my entire chart would look.

However, I did not have a chance to get my own chart, until years later, when a colleague drew one up for me, but he could not read it. Thus I enrolled in an astrology class with two astrologers, which turned out to be world famous (which I did not know then). For the first time, after learning about my chart, I understood, why I had two opposite sides: one playful, the other a diligent worker, leaving me feeling discontent with myself, when either playing or working. It was written in my chart: the basic program we come in with. I tried to accept these two sides, alternating work and play time, enjoying both, it was great!

Keeping up the studies, I became really good in seeing the influence of the sun in the signs in people's faces - until one person shook up my knowledge: I rated him as Gemini and he was something else, may be a Leo. I was stunned that I could err so much.

Anew I researched charts and compared with faces of people I knew. I found out that when there is an accumulation of planets in a chart, the sun may be overruled. It also plays a role, if there are certain houses or signs involved. It is quite interesting. I also compared the chart/faces and hands: I amazed a famous astrologer by telling her from her hand what her strongest planets in her chart are, before having known her chart or data!

I realized that the signs have certain energies and consider them to come from far outer space, not from the signs in the sky they were originally attributed to. The signs shift, yet, the sign energy is still the same. The sign energy seems more subtle but more intense than the planetary energy.

I read charts (for friends) in a different way than astrologers do, since I base it on my own research. I was able to tell a friend, why she was not accepted by some. She came across too strongly, written in her chart in the form of an opposition/house/sing composition. She solved the problem by successfully training herself to be really mellow.

For all of this I have no original source but my own research. I would suggest, however, to look into the work of Dr. H. Palm, who has developed the Cosmoton. He reported about scientific tests done when a planet was covered by another. A gel, which normally had a certain imprint when drying, suddenly had a changed pattern.

If our little moon can raise the mighty oceans and provoke intense behavior, what can the energy of the much larger planets do, or the subtle but intense energies from far outer space? I would suggest to look into scientific statistics about accidents at full moon, you may have a starting point there:

      1) thebikerstud: Road accident statistics
Road accident statistics shows that in 20057, casualties from motorcycle accident constitute 66% ... How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? ...

      2) Full Moon & Human Behavior
Again, the statistics showed that more murders do indeed occur at the full and new ... This is because on a waxing or full moon, the sap rises in the trees and ... New Mexico, came up with a report entitled “Intriguing Accident Patterns ...

      Here an excerpt from http://www.innerself.com:
"Crimes and violence aren’t the only things affected by the 29½ day full moon cycle. In the Journal of the Florida Medical Association, Dr. Edson J. Andrews writes that in a study of 1,000 tonsillectomies, 82 percent of postoperative bleeding crises occurred nearer the full than the new moon — despite the fact that fewer operations were performed at that time! Clearly, the full moon is a dangerous time for surgery, and the dissemination of this knowledge should result in planning operations for the new moon."

      3) Mad Science: Does the Full Moon Really Make People Crazy?

We should not forget that astrology and astronomy were one until recently in history. The reason for their separation I see in the biblical warning of astrologers. Meant were those Chaldeans (translated by "astrologers"), who cheated people and were not really learned. The Bible also warns of lawyers and in some ways of physicians. Meant are those who betray and exploit people and do not really help or heal. After all, the star of Bethlehem was noted by the magi (astrologers) and is mentioned in the Bible as a sign of Jesus' birth.

I believe that there is not any "bad" planet or sign, but it is all energy and what we make of it; and that we can change anything in our chart we do not like. We are the master of our life!

  3. QUESTION:
When is better to fish in Florida?...during high tide or low tide?...it's better full moon or partial moon?
I'm getting in to the fishing and I heard about Solunar, that the tide, the moon, affects the best or the worst time for fishing. Can somebody explain me a little about that?...I'm clueless, thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Generally, fish tend to be very active during a full moon. In fact, nearly all animals are. Fish are active at night, and a full moon provides plenty of light for them to find food. You can buy a sportsman's calendar with little fish symbols on each day. The fish symbols will be shaded or color-coded based on how good the fishing should be according to the phase of the moon.

Saltwater baitfish like herring and shad normally spawn in fresh or brackish water. They migrate back to the rivers they were spawned in every spring and summer. When the tide is moving in it is easier for them to get back into the river, so they "ride" the tide in. Game fish follow the baitfish schools year-round and will chase them into the rivers. Fishing an incoming tide allows you to fish while the bait is coming in, and catch the game fish as they are chasing the bait. An outgoing tide works almost the same, as the bait will be washed back out by the outgoing tide.

Also, many saltwater fish will swim into shallow water to feed as the tide is rising, especially on saltwater flats. If you are fishing from shore, high tide is usually the best time to fish.

  4. QUESTION:
need to find out what the moon looked like from florida for the last month?

    • ANSWER:
Find a calendar. The phases of the moon are always noted on a calendar.

  5. QUESTION:
what's going on in Miami the weekend on October 6-7?
I was looking at hotels and compared to the week before, everything seems sold out, or twice as expensive. What's going on in Miami that weekend?

    • ANSWER:
Miami is one of the cities where hotel prices can change from day to day. And like you've discovered, special events can play a big part in hotel rates.

I checked our calendar of events - http://www.miamibeach411.com/events-archive/index.php/events/

      Here is what's happening in Miami Oct. 6, 7, & 8:

South Florida Auto Show - Oct 06
Italian Film Festival - Oct 06
      Steelband Jamboree & J'Ouvert Parade - Oct 06
      Hunters Moon - Oct 06
Florida Sportsman Fishing & Boat Show - Oct 07
      Dennis Miller - Oct 07
      11th Annual Miami Socafest - Oct 07
      Miami Carnival 2006 - Oct 08
Discovery of America Day - Oct 08

To be honest, I don't see any special events that should cause hotel rates to increase so much. Go figure.

      Hope this was helpful!

  6. QUESTION:
Where is a good spot to watch the blue moon ? I am in orlando, Florida?

    • ANSWER:
Outside. A full moon is visible all night; all you need is a clear view of the sky. The modern definition of "blue moon" just refers to the second full moon in a calendar month. The Moon will not actually be blue. It's not all that special or rare.

I hope that helps. Good luck!

  7. QUESTION:
    how does a full moon?
i need a list of ways how a full moon affects people?? csn u all help me plzz =]

    • ANSWER:
I disagree. The moon does affect people, in many different ways. Your mood, a woman menstrual cycle, the oceans tide, and so on.

Here is some of what I found...

"There must be a full moon tonight." That's a popular phrase uttered in almost every office at some point when the customers are especially rude or strange. Some offices even post lunar calendars or send emails notifying staff of moon phrases as if it was upcoming hurricane activity.

What is the reason for the apprehension of other people when the moon is full? Is this fear mere superstition, or do we actually respond to moon phases?

The lunar effect is the name for the theory that the phases of the moon affect people's behavior. The word lunacy is derived from lunaticus, with "Luna" being the latin word for moon. Moon phases have been blamed for suicide, homicide, assaults, and linked to births and changes in menstrual cycles. One stock trader on the Silicon Investor website (http://siliconinvestor.advfn.com) even admitted to buying and selling stocks according to phases of the moon.

One study that garnered a lot of attention on this subject was Arnold Lieber's book released in 1978, "Lunar Effects: Biological Tides and Human Emotions", in which Lieber linked moon phases to murder rates in Miami-Dade County, Florida. He called the Miami-Dade police and local media, and according to him, "all hell broke loose".

The Moon is known to have a huge effect on the ocean's tides. The mechanism, in simple terms, goes like this: While the moon's gravitational force causes the water to rise up, the earth is also pulling downwards, causing tides. Water levels are dependent upon the force of the moon. So with a full moon comes the high tide. And from this observation, the concept of the moon affecting human behavior evolved. This is because the human body is 80 percent water. It is believed that just like the ocean, when the moon is full, there will also be an upset of water balance in the human body, causing a person to behave irrationally.

The fullness of the moon has always been blamed for catastrophes in both nature and human beings. It got worse over the years that even insanity, which is believed to be fluctuating with the phases of the moon, is given another name "lunacy"(comes from the Latin word 'luna' which means moon). In some cases, the moon was used as an excuse of a committed crime. England lawyers in the 19th-century used the "guilty by reason of the full moon" defense for their cases - pointing out that their clients could not be held responsible for acting under the control of the moon.

Psychologist Arnold Lieber, from the University of Miami, dug deeper into this theory. The year was 1974 when he began conducting studies centered on the crime rates of Miami-Dade County in Florida. From the data gathered, he concluded that full moon has direct effect over the increase in homicide rates. He is so sure with his findings that he contacted the media, Miami police, and a hospital administrator to warn them about the danger that comes with a full moon. In 1978 he wrote a best-selling book called, "Lunar Effects: Biological Tides and Human Emotions", which made his studies more known to the general public. Lieber didn't stop there; he published another book in 1996 and continued to expand his theory about the moon's influence on human behavior.

  8. QUESTION:
Is anyone else worried about LHC? These are my thoughts.?
The protons are supposed to collide within 4 years of the start of the experiment, which could fall on 2012, the Mayan calendar has suggested the end of the world will fall in 2012. Is this a coincidence? The Mayan calendar also predicted another apocalypse the end of their own civilisation, which was accurate to the exact day when the conquistadors travelled from Spain to South America and destroyed their civilisation. Does anybody know the date that the Mayans set for the end of the world?

    • ANSWER:
Reasons why the world won't end on 21st December 2012:

      From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesoamerica...

Despite the publicity generated by the 2012 date, Susan Milbrath, curator of Latin American Art and Archaeology at the Florida Museum of Natural History, stated that "We [the archaeological community] have no record or knowledge that [the Maya] would think the world would come to an end" in 2012.

"For the ancient Maya, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle," says Sandra Noble, executive director of the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies, Inc. in Crystal River, Florida. To render December 21, 2012, as a doomsday or moment of cosmic shifting, she says, is "a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in."

Reasons why the world won't end on 21st October 2008:

The second most powerful heavy-ion collider (behind the LHC) is the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider, it has been operational since 2000

Take a look at public fears before it went into operation and see what it reminds you of (From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relativisti...

Before RHIC started operation, there were fears among the public that the extremely high energy could produce one of the following catastrophic scenarios:

      * RHIC creates a black hole
      * RHIC creates a transition into a different quantum mechanical vacuum (see false vacuum)
      * RHIC creates strange matter that is more stable than ordinary matter

These hypothetical theories are complex, but they predict that at least the Earth would be destroyed within seconds, to years, to millennia, depending on the theories. However, the fact that objects of the Solar System (e.g., the Moon) have been bombarded with cosmic particles of significantly higher energies than that of RHIC for billions of years, without any harm to the Solar System, were among the most striking arguments that these hypotheses were unfounded.

  9. QUESTION:
    RARE natural disasters?
What is some RARE natural disaster??
I have to do a project, and I was thinking about doing "what if the moon left earths orbit?" But a lot of people are doing that in my class. Can you give me a natural disaster that doesn't happen everyday? Like the moon leaving earths orbit, or the sun burning out, or a super volcano. Those are some my classmates are doing.

    • ANSWER:
The greatest disaster of all would be the End of the World on 21 December 2012 at 1111 hours. This is when the Mayan long count calendar ends and some people take this as a sign of impending doom, like the Seven Signs of the Apocalypse in the Bible. (It seems like a lot people at Yahoo! Answers are asking about 21 December 2012.)

Some say that the north and south poles will shift, or that they will completely reverse, i.e., the North Pole will be at Antarctica and the South Pole will be in the Arctic. Some even say that the rotation of the earth will reverse so that the sun will be seen to rise in the west and set in the east.

There is a theory that the hard upper strata of the earth's crust rides on a soft fluid strata of magma and that the entire upper strata could shift on the fluid magma. If so, no doubt, the active supervolcano caldera beneath Yellowstone National Park would explode, a much, much larger detonation than Krakatoa, Mt. Etna, Mt. Vesuvius, and Mt. St. Helens combined. Black ash would be spewed into the atmosphere blocking out the sunlight and millions upon millions of people worldwide would die.

The North Pole was previously centred around Hudson's Bay, Canada, in earth's past and may do so again. If the poles do shift, then mile-high glaciers and ice in Antarctica and the Arctic would melt creating a worldwide flood not unlike the Deluge of the Bible (remember the story of Noah's Ark?). Low lying areas such as Florida, Louisiana, the Netherlands, and Bangladesh, would be completely submerged beneath the waves. The Deluge from the Bible was probably from the melting glaciers and ice from earth's previous pole shift. Everybody would head for the mountains, and these mountain tops would be specks of islands in a huge sea.

After the water subsides in a couple of thousand years, there would be a new Ice Age centred around the new location of both North and South Poles. Deep glaciation a mile high would start to occur in the land areas around the poles.

Do you have your wooden ark built yet? Only four more years to go until 'Doomsday.'

  12. QUESTION:
Twilight Autograph Singing????<3? does anyone have the dates of twilight cast (preferably taylor lautner or kristen stewart) autograph signings in florida or new jersey

    • ANSWER:
Taylor, Kristen and Rob don't usually attend signings or conventions.

The only exceptions are promotional (mainly overseas) signings when a new movie comes out, and Comic Con.

Hottopic and Nordstrom just had signings for New Moon, so I would check their websites around the time Eclipse opens in theaters. But like I said, no Taylor or Kristen. =/

They also have Twilight Conventions where you can meet a lot of the other actors:

  16. QUESTION:
trying to find a staff nurse post near bangor co.down, n, ireland?

    • ANSWER:
Does the Moon Really Affect Your Moods? Your Health? Your Sanity? Your Fangs?
      by www.SixWise.com

There's something about a full moon that conjures up spooky images of werewolves, insane ax-wielding murderers and other odd and unexplainable behaviors. Everything from horror films to Halloween cards has capitalized on this phenomenon, making it almost commonplace in our minds. But does the moon really affect human behavior, or does this notion only exist in our imaginations?

One study in Florida found that murder rates increase when there's a full moon.

      The Moon and Murder

Ever heard the term "lunacy"? It's actually defined in the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary as "intermittent insanity once believed to be related to phases of the moon." In fact, in England in the 18th century, a person who committed a murder during a full moon could plead "lunacy" and get a lighter sentence.

Back in the 1970s, a study was published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry that found some interesting results. Homicides in Dade County, Florida appeared to rise and fall with the phases of the moon over a 15-year period. In other words, the murder rate rose with the full or new moon.

The study's author, psychiatrist Arnold Lieber, theorized that since humans are composed mostly of water (like the earth), our bodies might have "biological tides" that influence our emotions. He even wrote a book about it called "How the Moon Affects You."

Medical Workers Unite Against the Full Moon

Hospital workers especially seem to notice increases in strange behaviors with the full moon. A study published in the Journal of Emergency Medicine in 1987 found that 80 percent of emergency room nurses and 64 percent of physicians agree that the moon affects their patients' behavior. In fact, the nurses were so overwhelmed by their workload during the full moon that they asked for bonus "lunar pay."

Another study in 1995 by the University of New Orleans found that 43 percent of participants believed in the moon's affect on behavior. Who agreed most strongly?

      Mental health professionals

      Social workers

      Clinical psychologists with master's degrees

      Nurse's aides

Full Moon Means More New Mothers?

"It's not supported by empirical evidence," said Debbie Fugett, a labor and delivery nurse at CoxHealth. "But on the night when there's a full moon, we're just a little bit nervous of what to expect."

Some experts say our culture just uses the full moon as a scapegoat for strange behaviors.

Many hospital workers express similar notions; that when the moon is full, there are more admissions for everything from births to violent crimes.

But, when put to the test, no link was found, according to a study in the May 2005 American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In a review of more than 500,000 births in North Carolina, no link was found between births and the lunar cycle.

"We really don't know what starts the process of labor, but we do know that whatever it is, it probably has nothing to do with the phases of the moon ... So while it may be fun to consider the full moon closest to your due date as the future 'birthday' for your baby, you'd have as good a chance of being right as throwing a dart at your calendar," said co-author Shelley L. Galvin.

      Is it All Just Hype?

Ivan Kelly, a Canadian psychologist at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, has published 15 papers on the lunar effect and reviewed more than 50 others (one of which involved 200 studies).

"My own opinion is that the case for full moon effects has not been made ... The studies are not consistent. For every positive study, there is a negative study," he said.

Indeed, it does appear that many studies contradict each other. An English study, for instance, found that your odds of being bitten by an animal were twice as high on full-moon nights. Another similar study, this one in Australia, found no relationship whatsoever between dog bites and the full moon.

Is it possible that we, as a culture, like the idea of a mysterious moon-related power, and are pushing the myth forward because we want to? It could be, according to Eric Chudler, a psychologist at the University of Washington in Seattle.

"When something unusual happens and there is a full moon, people might notice the moon and assign blame," he said.

Although medical workers throughout the nation may disagree, Scott Brandhorst, a licensed psychologist at the Robert J. Murney Clinic of Forest Institute of Professional Psychology expressed a similar sentiment.

"It's one of the myths that have been passed along through generations ... We, as a society, use the full moon to account for someone's behavior," he said

    • ANSWER:
but The term 'GOOGOL' was coined by the child of a university math professor. It seems the prof. was using a blackboard in his home to do some calculations. On the board was the #1 followed by a hundred zeroes, upon seeing this, the child commented 'daddy, that looks like a googol'. The largest whole number I believe, unless you include a googolplex, which is a googol to the tenth power. It seems the child who coined the word, which is the # 1 followed by 100 zeroes, was Milton Sirrota the 9yr. old nephew (at the time,1938) of Amer. Mathematician, Edward Kasner, who died in 1955. but A 'Double Blue Moon' occurs when two calendar months in a year each have two full moons. This can occur only in Jan and Mar. It is mathematically impossible for this phenomenon to occur in any other two months. Whenever this happens, February never has a full moon. This happens approximately once every 19 years. It happened in 1980, this year, and will recur in 2018. [Source: Florida Times-Union, Associated Press]

  18. QUESTION:
Where should I go on my USA honeymoon?
My fiance and I are getting married June 4, this year. We DO NOT want a lie-on-the-beach kind of honeymoon, or one that is high on physical activity (like all hiking, camping, jetskiing, or sports). We would prefer something that has things to do, though - sightseeing, museums, shows, parks, that kind of thing. We would like to stay in the US, but this is not neccessary - we both have vaild passports. We would like to keep the cost to under 00 (flying from MI) for a week to 10 days. Any ideas?

    • ANSWER:
Washington, D.C. has a TON of stuff to see. You can walk the National Mall, which has all the Smithsonian Museums along it. Each of those museums takes at least a day to go through.

If you want closer to home, try the badlands. There are a ton of gorgeous spots, plus you can go to see Mt. Rushmore.

In New Hampshire, there is an area called Laconia/Lake Winnepesaukee. During that time, it should be absolutely gorgeous weather (summer there is like winter in South Florida). The nights get down into the fifties and sixties, daytime highs only into the seventies, maybe eighties on hotter weeks. You can drive to a million different awesome destinations from there, like the Polar Caves (awesome!!!) and Mt. Washington. There are also a lot of local spots for some of the best crab rolls you've ever had in your whole life.

On the west side of the country, I know there is this place where you can have treehouse hotels. It's kind of a woodsy thing, but it is definitely an experience few people ever have, and I have had a lot of people recommend it.

Vegas rocks, but I wouldn't waste the money. One meal there can cost upwards of fifty a head, over thirty for breakfast.

Miami will always be the home of which I am most proud, but that is not the time of year to be doing it. It's way too hot and way too crowded during the summer months. With humidity, it literally feels like 100+ for the whole summer. However, if you can make your way down to Key West, it would be well worth the trip. I don't know about the lunar calendar during that time, but probably the most romantic thing I have ever done was driving out onto the seven mile bridge (which connects Key West to the rest of the chain), in the middle of which there is a small island you can pull off on. On the right night, with little cloud cover and no moon, you can literally see the entire galaxy. The bridge has no lights, which makes it a fantastic view, away from all the city lights of Key West. In Key West proper, there is Duval Street, which has a crapload of fun little shops. Every day at sundown, the local color of Key West comes out in a big way on the west side of the island to celebrate the sunset. You can literally wake up on the east side to the sunrise, walk the whole island/explore, and be on the west coast by sunset. After that, it's time for the Duval crawl, something you would be very familiar with after one night of partying in that town.

There is also Orlando, which rocks if you get an all-access pass. There are deals where you can hit up any park you want, any day for the whole time of your stay. I would highly recommend something like that. A lot of the theme parks also have meal plans, where you can show up, pay maybe thirty bucks once, then eat for free all day. Awesome for people on a budget. The hotels there are so numerous you'll always have a good deal on room rates, too.

I hope all that helped, and good luck planning your honeymoon!

  19. QUESTION:
Could the Mayan Calender actually end earlier then suppose to?
Everyone is talking about the LCH thingy and it said that they will power it to a high volostity on 21 October 2008.
And people said end of the world. But it suppose to end ''21'' December 2012.
It the same day, 2months apart- but 4 years apart. Could the Mayan calender be wrong and had the end of the world part right but the dates wrong?

But the people who prodicted 2012 were right on things they prodicted before One goddess prodicted Alexander would win a war with less soliders and he was born 300 years after this godess and her perdictiosn were right, so 2012 could maybe be true.

    • ANSWER:
Reasons why the world won't end on 21st December 2012:

      From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesoamerican_Long_Count_calendar#2012_and_the_Long_Count

Take a look at public fears before it went into operation and see what it reminds you of (From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relativistic_Heavy_Ion_Collider#Fears_among_the_public):
