The very last question is the same questions. So maybe try and watch there and see if someone happens to answer it?

Another thing you might try is to, listen to the whole soundtrack. It would take some time, but it might just be an instrumental from it?

  4. QUESTION:
How do I satisfy my obsession for the Outsiders?
OK so I am obsessed with the Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. I don't know what to do though. I always feel like I really, really want something that has to do with the Outsiders, but IDK what. I don't know what I can get to sort of satify my obsession. Please help me! Any suggestions please!?!?!?!?!?!

    • ANSWER:
I feel the same way, bro.

I watch The Outsiders every weekend.
If not, every day. Especially when I have free time; I watch it. It's an addiction. But they're all so adorable.

Man, I wish we still lived in the 80's. Back when the Outsider's were all still hot. Now they're all grown up & oldish. D:

I would marry Ponyboy & Dally in less than a heartbeat.
      If that even makes sense.

I have pictures of all of them covering every section of my wall.
      Pretty sad, I know. x]

Anyways, I dunno how you can satisfy your obsession for the Outsiders.
But I'm gonna go watch the movie again. :D

  5. QUESTION:
What is a symbol that represents ponyboy from the novel the Outsiders?
I have to do a project on a character in the novel the outsiders and I choose ponyboy.but I can't think of a symbol. Help!!!!!

    • ANSWER:
Sunsets: Ponyboy could never tell anybody about his love of watching sunsets, except for Johnny, Sodapop, and maybe Cherry Valance.

Books and/or movies: Ponyboy dug books and movies and liked to watch movies undisturbed so he can get into them and live them with the actors. He is different compared to his older brothers because Sodapop never cracks a book at all, and Darry works too long and hard to be interested in a story or even drawing a picture. Nobody in the gang dug books and movies the way Ponyboy does.

  6. QUESTION:

    • ANSWER:

  7. QUESTION:
I have a photography stop/motion project to do and I need ideas on storyline?
I'd like a storyline that would take 3-7 minutes to play in pictures, it's similar to a video but just with pictures.
Preferably somewhere that we can shoot in a school, or in a city, theaters, alcatraz island, golden gate park? [We're from San Francisc]
That is about as much cheating as asking for homework help on this site, which is not cheating. I just need some assistance.

    • ANSWER:
don't listen to these people, they don't understand us lacking in spontaneous creativity XD

it's always easier to get an outsider point of view...uhm...if you have siblings or cousins or just friends, document their day. go to school, home, out for lunch, the park, movies, a run in the park, driving, that kind of thing. doesn't necessarily have to all be the same day, but you may want them to wear the same clothes.

uhm..idk about your camera, but mine has drive, takes several pictures in a row, they usually flow very well.

btw Mr Din, nice video, but for 5-7 minutes, you may want to do a car scene only for a minute or so.

  8. QUESTION:
How do I get UTube videos on to my powerpoint presentation?
Im trying to get a video clip of "The Outsiders" on to my powerpoint presentation.

    • ANSWER:
There are two ways to do this. One requires the computer you are presenting on to have an internet connection and the other does not. Both methods are for PowerPoint 2007.

If you will be presenting on a computer WITH Internet, the following step by step tutorial with pictures will tell you how to easily insert YouTube videos without having to download anything:

      http://iconlogic.blogs.com/weblog/2010/05/powerpoint-2007-insert-youtube-videos.html

The second option is for presenting from a computer withOUT internet:

      1. Find the YouTube video you would like to insert into your PowerPoint presentation.
      2. Copy the URL for the video.
      3. Navigate to www.mediaconverter.org (there are other free media converters, but I've tried and had success with this one) and click Enter a link.
      4. Paste in the URL for the YouTube video and click OK.
      5. Click Go to the next step.
      6. Select an output file type (choose either avi or wmv) and click OK.
      7. Click Start to begin the conversion.
      8. When finished, click Download and save the file to your desired location.
      9. In PowerPoint, select the slide on which you would like to insert the video.
      10. On the Insert tab choose Movie > Movie from File.
      11. Navigate to where you have saved the downloaded video and click OK.
      12. When asked how you would like the movie to start in PowerPoint, click When Clicked (unless you would like the video to begin playing automatically).
      13. Move and resize the inserted video as desired.
      14. When you view your slide show, click the video to play it.
Click the video again to pause or stop it.

If you would like the second set of instructions along with step-by-step screen shots, click here:

      http://iconlogic.blogs.com/weblog/2010/05/powerpoint-2007-insert-youtube-videos-part-2.html

If you are using PowerPoint 2008 for the Mac, try these instructions instead:

  10. QUESTION:
What would you do if your supervisor is making mistakes that will eventually be blamed on you?
I tried to explain this to my dad, but he couldn't understand the situation. He was a principal for 20 years and never encountered anything like this! This is how it goes: We are 4 foreign teachers at a private school in Korea. We are asked to host an English Camp. We put everything together and at the last minute things get changed by the supervisor. The camp bombs and the kids are not happy. The pictures on the school website shows one teacher looking down, the other one laughing and me sitting down. This however not explained to the viewers. I'm sitting down, because I'm assisting another teacher doing a "restaurant class". The teacher looking down is using the computer to show a scene during a "movie class"! If the kids are happy, the parents are happy and now we look like the idiots that put it all together! The super changed all our plans and the computer teacher took a lot of shitty pics making us look bad! What would you do if you knew that both of them were IN for you as well?
The problem I have is that the principal thinks the world of our super and it must be some kind of crush he has on her. So everything she says is kinda seen as truth! What she will do, is say that we planned it and it bombed! And he will believe it because of his infatuation with her! This is a problem that seems to affect many other Korean teachers as well. He is old and will believe everything he hears. He is easily influenced by others and the teachers know it. Some use it to their advantage. But most just accept it, because it's very difficult to get rid of him even if he is senile! I'm truly worried about the kids and their education as well as the parents and their opinion!

    • ANSWER:
If I were you I would start to build a case, find all the paperwork you can, every note she made or anything in writing that she did when making her changes.

Just keep it together until you have a chance to show it to a parents group to prove that its not your fault. Send copies to the headmaster and the person in charge of the area - the one above him.

Show it to anyone you can but be prepared to be really unpopular or even have to move your job if you do this because you are the outsider and all the rest will rally around her.

  11. QUESTION:
What is a good book that has a strong character?
I have to write a paper on a book.
I have to do a character analysis, so it has to have a good character.
I want a really good book, nothing confusing.
I am a 17 year old girl so it has to be interesting to me.
    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
I gathered by what you wrote that you can choose any book. However, if you have to pick something from the literary canon, I'd recommend _To Kill A Mockingbird_. It's easy to read and Scout's a great narrator. You'd have an easy time doing a character analysis. Oh, and there's a great movie adaptation.

Here's some other good books (and they are all fairly easy to read):

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton (about social struggles and how an orphaned high school boy deals with them ---- there's a movie to watch, too)

The Last Picture Show by Larry McMurtry (coming of age story about a boy is in love with his bully best friend's girlfriend --- there's a movie you can watch, too)

Sunglasses after Dark by Nancy A. Collins (story about a woman who becomes a vampire -- can be found in the trilogy Midnight Blue by Nancy A. Collins)

I Remember Valentine by Liz Hamlin (coming of age story set in The Great Depression about a little girl whose family becomes poor)

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (this is non fiction about a reporter who ends up just hanging out in Savannah, GA. and gets mixed up in a murder --- and there's a movie you can watch, too)

I did a check, and all of these, except for The Outsiders is available from Half.com for well under . The Outisders is available only as a set, sold with That Was Then This is Now - which is also a great book-, for . However, it is available from Amazon.com market place (their version of half.com) for about .

  12. QUESTION:
How would you react if your son was perusing porn?
And not the soft-focus semi-acceptable playboy stuff.
As in amateur submissions, multiple lesbian co-bed-inhabitants and all the rest of it.

What would be the most appropriate action to take?
This boy is aged 13- my friend's son (my 11 yr old thankfully is under the wife's constant glaring gaze).
Sorry- I should have mentioned via internet.
Debbie- only for purely informative purposes, I assure you.

    • ANSWER:
The first thing is that if his parents try to stop him, he will just go 'underground' with this and resent them into the bargain.

The big problem is that he needs to be able to differentiate between the girls in the pictures/movies who are pretending to be enjoying themselves and real women.

They need to explain to him that these are 'fantasies' and in real life, women don't all get naked as soon as a hunky guy or sexy girl winks at them. At 13 there is a chance that he could begin to form the impression that this is how all women behave, so they need to point out to him that the women in these pictures get paid a lot of money to pose like this. It not just women who are not models either. The models themselves are very unlikely to be spending all their non-working time holding sexy poses, blowing kisses at everyone and stroking themselves erotically.

Both I and other friends have been pestered by guys who think that - because we're gay - we're into threesomes with guys, or that we want them to watch us having sex. These theories almost always come from them looking at porn and getting some pre-conceived ideas about women.

This boy needs to understand that the women in the porn pictures are not an accurate representation of women. He needs to start hearing this now and he needs to accept this.

There are a few other things he needs to try and understand though.

One of the great wonders of love and sex is exploring a partner's body for the first time. By repeatedly viewing porn several things are happening.

He's desensitising himself from the beauty of the naked form and he's watching the exploration of people's bodies as an outsider - something he should be doing himself in a few years time. His expectations of a woman are going to either be very high or he's going to find there is little arousal in the naked form because he's seen it all before.

His preconceptions of what a couple does when making love is going to be different from other people of his own age group. In fact, his preconceptions of the whole process of falling in love, going from cuddles to kisses and spending time moving up to the point where both feel ready to advance to sexual intimacy is something he either won't understand, or the length of time it takes to get there may prove frustrating for him.

I don't believe that watching porn turns all guys into rapists, but my experience is that most guys who frequently view porn are not particularly good lovers and they are very demanding about trying to get you to have sex with them. They never seem to make for very faithful lovers either.

At best, he might develop 'techniques' that will appeal to some women. At worst, his expectations and forcefulness could lead to him being accused of inappropriate behaviour towards women.

There is one other consideration to make that must be addressed. By law, a person should be 18 or older to view pornography. It can be difficult for parents to know what to do about this, but the fact remains that if he's caught using pornography, the boy's parents could be held responsible - especially if they know he's doing this.

The boy's parents should perhaps consider talking to their family doctor about this. His curiosity is quite normal in a boy just coming into puberty, but it's how it affects his future life that is important here. At 13 he can't understand some of the consequences of what's he's doing right now and it's a tricky area for a parent. Do nothing and they're culpable if his behaviour with women becomes inappropriate - become too heavy handed and they end with a situation where their son becomes angry and then secretive about his interest in watching sex. Doctors do understand about these things and they may suggest that the boy talk to a counselor who can help very discretely and in total confidence.

What are some really good asian dramas that are about highschool?

any that center around high school life? preferably romance--COMEDY--sports--drama--delinq/juvinile… anything really just not really a fan of horror and killer stuff.
    thanks!!
btw- personal opinions would be great!!!

    • ANSWER:
      Teacher Dramas.
Great teacher onizuka (Male teacher who is a former motor gang member)
Gokuzen (Female teacher whose father is running some yakuza-like business)

Ugly girl changes to beautiful girl dramas:
      Nobuta wo produce

      First sex dramas:
Stand up! Young guys want to experiance their first sex and first love.
Gakko ja oshierarenai! (5 guys enter a former all girls school and go into a social dance club with 5 outsider girls)

      Bullying dramas:
Hana yori Dango: a girl stands up against the four school bullies. Really good drama!
Life: I've only read the manga, pretty hard stuff

      Girl poses as guy dramas:
Hanazakari no kimitachi e: Because a guy got hurt trying to save her, and quit playing tennis(?) because of it, a girls sneaks into a guys school and tries to convince him to to start playing again. He soon falls for her but believes he has become gay^^

Some other good dramas (nothing to do with high school)
Hero: an unconventional attorney solves cases on his own
Kimi ha petto: A 29 years old business women is perfect in everything, but unable to show her emotions and pretty lonely, as everyone's afraid of her. Unable to find and express love, she hosts a young male dancer at her home who doesn't really have a place to go, and who has difficulties expressing his feelings too.
Kurosagi: A guy (yamapi) whose father has lost everything and commited suicide because someone cheated him of his money, wants to take revenge on swindlers and cheats all of them back

      Good movies:
Nana: Two very difficult and equally lonely girls become flatmates, and a special friendship develops
Ai no mukidashi: Because his father wants him to confess some sin, the innocent main character becomes a pervert who takes pictures of girls panties. But then the one girl whom he truely loves finds out about this ...

If you don't know where to start, I recommend
      Hana yori dango
      Kimi ha petto
      Hanazakari no kimitachi he
      Gokuzen
      Nobuta wo produce
      Stand up!
      Great teacher onizuka
      Kurosagi
      in this order^^

And you really gotta watch the movie ai no mukidashi if you find it^^

  19. QUESTION:
What is important to mention when a character goes to a place with a different culture?
Like food, architecture, people, ect. Any ideas?

    • ANSWER:
Those are good examples, but it is very important to put how they are viewing it as an outsider and their feelings. Are the comfortable? Do they feel welcomed? What things really jump out at them as being odd? Maybe you could look up images of places that are not part of your own culture, like if you are American look up pictures of markets in China or a movie theatre in England(yes, England is another culture and it may even be more important for you to consider the differences in similar cultures so you don't get too stuck on real obvious ones that would jump out in totally different cultures.)

  20. QUESTION:
How to meet people on a Carnival Cruise?
Okay so me and my family are going on a carnival cruise (9 days!!! I'm so excited!! :) ) but my sis and I wanna meet a lot of people and Im 15 and she's 11 so what can we do to meet people like what can 11 year old and a 15 year old do? Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
You should go to Club 02. It's for 15-17 year olds and has a really cool lounge designed for your age. They play good music, have dances, parties, contests, games (video & board), and lots of activities. It's also a great way to meet other teens your own age! On the first night, nobody knows each other, so it's easiest to make friends in my opinion. The longer you wait, the more of an outsider you may feel like. Once you join, you're not obligated to go to all their activities. You can drop in and out whenever you're bored. There's usually lots of other teens there!

Your sister, on the other hand, would probably be in Camp Carnival. Each club is great for their appropriate age group!

There are pictures and information about each on the Carnival website. The clubs look slightly different on each ship, so check out the highlights of your ship and look to see if they posted pictures of them.

If you don't want to go on the clubs, you can:

      - go to the spa (your sis isn't old enough, but you can go if you go with a parent)
      - use the gym
      - use the jogging track
      - play mini golf
      - watch great shows
      - shop onboard
      - eat!
      - sign up for lessons (might be charged)
      - watch movies
      - participate in contests/activities
      - go in the pools/hot tubs
      - have fun on the waterslide/waterpark!
      - rock climb

I may have listed some things that aren't available on your ship. I also missed a lot. The carnival website will have lots of detailed information, and you can look up stuff specifically about your ship. Their FAQs section is also very helpful.

If you drink a lot of soft drinks, get a fountain fun card. It's about 4 dollars per day per kid and you get unlimited soft drinks all week! Normally each soft drink is about 3 dollars.

Have fun on your cruise! =)

  26. QUESTION:
Did kids really smoke cigarettes back in the day?
I see a lot of movies that were based on the 1960-1970 time frame, showing kids that smoked. And it was regular. Like in the movie Stand By Me, there were a couple scene when those 5th graders were smoking, and in the book the Outsiders, those kids are like 14 and 16 and they are smoking.
Did kids really smoke back in the day as much as they did? Because now a days, not many kids smoke cigarettes, well at my school at least.

    • ANSWER:
I was a kid in the 60s and 70s. The answer is Yes, lots of kids smoked then. You see, all the parents smoked, and it was considered all right to let your kids light your cigarettes for you, or parents would let them have occasional puffs. They would sometimes let them smoke a few cigarettes on special occasions, and it was no big deal if the kids started smoking regularly.
In fact, very small kids, like toddlers, often smoked, and it wasn't considered terrible - the kids were considered "cute" and "precocious". Newspapers often showed pictures of little kids smoking, especially if they were very little, smoked heavily, or smoked cigars. There was a little girl named Patzy Grimmett who started puffing and inhaling her father's cigars at one year old, and a number of newspapers ran pictures of her smoking cigars when she was two!
I met a woman in 1972 or so who had an 18 month-old daughter who loved to smoke cigarettes. The mom actually encouraged her - she wanted a smoking kid - and that little girl grew up just fine, and has been smoking her whole life!

      The good old days!

  29. QUESTION:
Can you show me a pic about this type of optical illusion uesed in cinema?
    hi
    imagine
there are 2 actors come in a big saloon and do their rolls.

but in fact, there is no a very big saloon!
they are far from the camera, and camera has been put in a box.

can you give me a picture or a part of movie with this trick?

    thanks

    • ANSWER:
There was a movie called The Outsider, starring Tim Daily, Naomi Watts, and Keith Carradine, where the character(s) were in a big saloon. They get in a bar fight and smash fake beer bottles made of sugar glass on each other, shoot blanks at each other, fake blood packets exploded, etc. The background was a green screen, and CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) was used to fill in the blanks later.

However, there really was a saloon. Half the size of the one on screen, but it still existed. I can't help you there. Maybe some John Wayne movie?

Also, I don't know what you mean by "and camera has been put in a box"... production don't (to the extent of my knowledge) put cameras into boxes... they put fabric tape on the edges of the camera to make it a tighter frame... but a box? really? never heard of that before...

  30. QUESTION:
What is a symbol that represents ponyboy??(the outsiders)?
I have to do a project on a chareter in the novel the outsiders and I choose ponyboy.but I can't think of a symbol. Help!!!!!

    • ANSWER:
Unless the title differs from the film, I'll list only the series titles:
Conan aka Conan the Adventurer~Actually, it's likely more based on Robert E. Howard's novels than the two Conan films.
Freddy's Nightmares (anthology series) from A Nightmare on Elm Street

A series of made-for-TV films titled "The Chronicles of Indiana Jones" fill in Indy's exploits as a child, teenager and young man. I'm not sure if this counts as a series, but the films aired on a schedule from what I recall.

Everyone back then KNEW that "Alias Smith & Jones" had to be based on "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid" though there were denials.

      ANIMATED:
      Beetlejuice
      Fantastic Voyage
      Back to the Future
      The Real Ghostbusters
      Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures
Men in Black: The Series~Actually, both the movies and the series are based on a comic book, so I'm not sure this counts.

  36. QUESTION:
In the book the Outsiders who are the socs and who are the greasers?
In the book The Outsiders...Who are the Socs?
& Who are the Greasers? please help i already know ones poor and ones rich..i need more detail :)

    • ANSWER:
As you already stated ones rich and ones poor.

      Here's what the book says:

"Greasers can't walk alone too much or they'll get jumped, or someone will come by and scream "Greaser!" at them, which doesn't make you feel too hot, if you know what I mean. We get jumped by the Socs. I'm not sure how you spell it, but it's the abbreviation for the Socials, the jet set, the West-side rich kids. It's like the term "greaser," which is used to class all us boys on the East Side.
We're poorer than the Socs and the middle class. I reckon we're wilder, too. Not like the Socs, who jump greasers and wreck houses and throw beer blasts for kicks, and get editorials in the paper for being a public disgrace one day and an asset to society the next. Greasers are almost like hoods; we steal things and drive old souped-up cars and hold up gas stations and have a gang fight once in a while. I don't mean I do things like that. Darry would kill me if I got into trouble with the police. Since Mom and Dad were killed in an auto wreck, the three of us get to stay together only as long as we behave. So Soda and I stay out of trouble as much as we can, and we're careful not to get caught when we can't. I only mean that most greasers do things like that, just like we wear our hair long and dress in blue jeans and T-shirts, or leave our shirttails out and wear leather jackets and tennis shoes or boots. I'm not saying that either Socs orgreasers are better; that's just the way things are."

That's at the very begging of the book. As Pony comes out of the theater.

You can find all the main gresers in the very begging of the book too. As Pony comes out of the theater. But here's what the book says:

"I'm different that way. I mean, my second-oldest brother, Soda, who is sixteen-going-on-seventeen, never cracks a book at all, and my oldest brother, Darrel, who we call Darry, works too long and hard to be interested in a story or drawing a picture, so I'm not like them. And nobody in our gang digs movies and books the way I do. For a while there, I thought I was the only person in the world that did. So I loned it.
Soda tries to understand, at least, which is more than Darry does. But then, Soda is different from anybody; he understands everything, almost. Like he's never hollering at me all the time the way Darry is, or treating me as if I was six instead of fourteen. I love Soda more than I've ever loved anyone, even Mom and Dad. He's always happy-go-lucky and grinning, while Darry's hard and firm and rarely grins at all. But then, Darry's gone through a lot in his twenty years, grown up too fast. Sodapop'll never grow up at all. I don't know which way's the best. I'll find out one of these days."

      ***Edit***

I tried giving you the whole quote but yahoo cut it off. But it's on page 9 of my book, so might want to look around there.

This is in Chapter three and it might help some:

""It ain't fair that we have all the rough breaks!" I didn't know exactly what I meant, but I was thinking about Johnny's father being a drunk and his mother a selfish slob, and Two-Bit's mother being a barmaid to support him and his kid sister after their father ran out on them, and Dally--- wild, cunning Dally--- turning into a hoodlum because he'd die if he didn't, and Steve--- his hatred for his father coming out in his soft, bitter voice and the violence of his temper. Sodapop... a dropout so he could get a job and keep me in school, and Darry, getting old before his time trying to run a family and hold on to two jobs and never having any fun--- while the Socs had so much spare time and money that they jumped us and each other for kicks, had beer blasts and river-bottom parties because they didn't know what else to do. Things were rough all over, all right. All over the East Side. It just didn't seem right to me."

This quote is important because it shows how hard life is for greasers. Socs have a hard time too; as part of the book tries to show, but it shows how greasers how to really work to make anything out of life.

And as for the Socs you 'really' meet them when Johnny and Pony are at the Movies.

"But those two girls weren't our kind. They were tuff-looking girls--- dressed sharp and really good-looking. They looked about sixteen or seventeen. One had short dark hair, and the other had long red hair. The redhead was getting mad, or scared. She sat up straight and she was chewing hard on her gum. The other one pretended not to hear Dally. Dally was getting impatient. He put his feet up on the back of the redhead's chair, winked at me, and beat his own record for saying something dirty. She turned around and gave him a cool stare.
"Take your feet off my chair and shut your trap."
Boy, she was good-looking. I'd seen her before; she was a cheerleader at our school. I'd always thought she was stuck-up."

I can't find anything really on Randy or Bob. But spark notes might help. I'll put the link in the source.

And if you find the page when they have the rumble it might give you some description there.

I hope this helps you some. :) Best of Luck.

  37. QUESTION:
In the book "The Outsiders" what does Dallas (Dally) Winston look like?
I need to know what dally winston looks like for something im doing in school. I need a word discription of what he looks like in the book not in the movie.

    • ANSWER:
His description is on Chapter 1. Hope this helps. :)

" I used to like to draw his picture when he was in a dangerous mood, for then I could get his personality down in a few lines. He had an elfish face, with high cheekbones and a pointed chin, small, sharp animal teeth, and ears like a lynx. His hair was almost white it was so blond, and he didn't like haircuts, or hair oil either, so it fell over his forehead in wisps and kicked out in the back in tufts and curled behind his ears and along the nape of his neck. His eyes were blue, blazing ice, cold with a hatred of the whole world. Dally had spent three years on the wild side of New York and had been arrested at the age of ten. He was tougher than the rest of us--- tougher, colder, meaner."

  38. QUESTION:
How would you classify a "popular" American girl?
What makes an American girl popular?
Im from Australia and i've seen movies with stereotypical popular girls but what would you say is the reality that makes a girl "popular"?
    Thanks :)
    x

    • ANSWER:
In the United States, a "popular" girl, is a girl, often, prettier than the other girls at her school, which all the guys wanna screw, but only one guy is screwing her. "Popular" is often translated as "the girl everyone hates, but wants to be." Also those movies? They are mostly to ridicule them; many movie writers are former high school nerds, losers, and outcasts, and they get their revenge, by writting scripts for movies such as "Mean Girls."

And yeah, they are stereotypical; generally girls who are both teacher pleasers, athletic AND pretty, are classified as "popular." However, a girl can't be TOO pretty. If a girl is uncommonly pretty, that will actually make her UN popular, largely because the "popular" girl, is jealous. What sometimes though, a popular girl will do, is attempt to befriend any girls prettier than her, that way she has no "adversaries." In other words, the "queen bee" of a high school, or a "queen bee" girl, will only choose to be friends with you if she sees you as a threat to her in the looks department.

what makes a girl "popular?" Again; its the prettiest girl, who isn't too pretty, who every guy wants to screw, but, only one guy is screwing her, her boyfriend, one of the popular guys of course. It is the girl, who is NOT uncommonly attractive, who gets good grades but not TOO good, otherwise she's a nerd if she does, and who is athletic, but not the point of being a "jock chick." You're right in using quotes though; the "popular" people in American High Schools, are not "popular" at all. They are envied by wannabes, and hated by outcast types who can see through all the bullcrap. Sadly, using a bell curve, outcasts are the bottom 10%, wannabes the middle 60%, and "popular" people the top 10% of that food chain, the top 90th percentile of the bell curve. Nerds? Far as the high school is concerend nerds do not even exist. Outcasts have it the worst though, because, a good 90% of fights in High Schools are ALWAYS fist fights between outcast guys vs jock guys. Its true; "bad boys," and "outcast loser" types, are almost always fighting the "jocks." Sometimes the jocks "win," but most of the time the "outcast losers" will come out on top.

Sorry for overanswering; hope someone does a better job but, to try to answer your question again, there is no such thing as "popular." If you want a picture of the American High School, and an accurate one, please read the novels "The Outsiders" and "Rumble Fish." Dudes like the dude from "Rumble Fish" eat jocks for lunch, just so you know.

Both, are very accurate, at least from my own personal experiences....

      peace out.

But once Sloane gets a taste of life on the A-list, she ditches Winter without so much as a second thought. Suddenly cast out of her former best friend's life, Winter takes revenge the modern way: by announcing all of Sloane's dirty little secrets on an anonymous blog. Perfect by Natasha friend, and its a more sad down to earth quick book about a bulimic girl, its very good. I’d tell you I love you but then I’d have to kill you by ally carter is really good, heres the official description:
The Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women is a fairly typical all-girls’ school -- that is, if every school taught advanced martial arts in PE, the latest in chemical warfare in science; and students received extra credit for breaking CIA codes computer class. So in truth, Gallagher Academy might claim to be a school for geniuses -- but it’s really a school for spies.

Cammie Morgan is a second generation Gallagher Girl, and by her sophomore year she’s already fluent in fourteen languages and capable of killing a man in seven different ways (three of which involve a piece of uncooked spaghetti). But the one thing the Gallagher Academy hasn’t prepared her for is what to do when she falls for an ordinary boy who thinks she’s an ordinary girl.
Sure, she can tap his phone, hack into his computer, and track him through a mall without his ever being the wiser, but can she have a regular relationship with a regular boy who can never know the truth about her?
Cammie may be an elite spy in training, but in her sophomore year, she’s beginning her most dangerous mission -- she’s falling in love.

The Uglies by Scott Westerfield is really good, it takes place in the future when in your youth you are considered ugly and when you turn 16 you are given surgery that makes you "pretty". The main character has to choose between the surgery or running away. Its interesting, and good.
