    • ANSWER:
Just make up your own idea. I write plenty of scripts, and most of them are based on the trouble me and my friends get into. One thing I did when writing a short film script when I had a writer's block was ask my self a question like, "what would my friends and I do if a really attractive foreign exchange student from France came to our school for only two weeks and we all wanted to date him?" Or whatever works for you, good luck on the test.

Shawn "The Kosher Clemens Express" Clemens was one of the best Jewish ballplayers and one of the best ballplayers of his time w/over 400 wins under his belt. He had 100 perfect games with 27 strikeouts each in his first 2½ seasons. He was in the All-Star game in each of his MLB seasons of his career. He was always the starter in each.

But after his MLB record 30th season, something happened to his arm. He had already had a record of 1,154 wins, a record zero losses, a record 9,232 innings pitched, no saves as he has always been a starter, and a major record of 31,164 strikeouts (an avg. of 25 strikeouts/9 innings). His arm was badly hurting. He went to the team’s doctor in New York.

"So, Dr. Johnson, what has exactly happened to my arm?" asked the star pitcher Shawn Clemens.

"Well, Shawn, I am afraid that you have injured your right elbow," responded Dr. Will Johnson, the team’s New York-based doctor for the Yankees.

"Do I have any choices?" asked the Kosher Clemens Express.

"Yeah, you can have Tommy John surgery and sit out this upcoming season. You can have Tommy John surgery and end your career immediately. Or you can choose not to have surgery and jeopardize our career. Do me a favor?" said the doctor.

"What is that favor?" Shawn asked.

"What ever your choice is, just do kvetch about anything," Will told him.

"I think tight I have decided not to pitch next season by having Tommy John surgery this year, and you have my word. I will not kvetch," said Clemens.

"Great, come back tomorrow at 9:00 AM in the morning," replied Johnson.

"Okay, sounds great," Shawn said. He then left with his wife of 28 years, and a beautiful mother of three kids (Nathan Scott, 20 Rebecca Leah, 15 Jonathan Richard, 10).

One season later, he had started a new season after he completely recovered from Tommy John surgery. He threw harder than he ever did before. He fastball was timed at 110 mph. He had to refrain from the curve as those had hurt him to throw them.

  8. QUESTION:
How much would the royalties cost for my amateur film adaptation for stage?
    Hi there,

I am adapting a well-known Hollywood comedy into a musical to put on stage. Entrance will probably be free, performing to my school and some outsiders. The music will be entirely composed by us, with heavy alterations to the script by us too. I am in the UK. The script was found online to allow to start working on ideas immediately.

In short: Hollywood film, adapted for stage by us, music and words by us.

How much in royalties would we have to pay, and how do we find out who to and how to pay them to?

    Many thanks.

    • ANSWER:
If you were even able to get the rights to said movie, it would cost more than your school could afford!

  9. QUESTION:
How can I develop this idea into a plot?
So I was thinking about making a conventional short film (30 min) and I have a pretty nice idea in my perspective about a kid trying to make a movie for his school's film festival and he is in love with film and really wants to win. But one day, this mindless kid comes along and guess's that it's good for his transcript if he wins. So he steals the other dude's film. I just need some help probably getting to a good climax and things that would make it a little more dramatic. Thanks

    • ANSWER:
the main element in any type of story is conflict. So dose the film student chase after the mindless kid? do they eventually have some kind of stand off? (you can incorporate different film element like silent chases, or slap stick comedy or western for the stand off, it's your interpretation at the end of it all that counts)
twists in the plot are also a good way to enhance a story line. Is the mindless kid working for that teacher who every time the film student has a great idea crushes it? Is the mindless kid actually a robot and working to destroy the world of film?
It doesn't have to be an extreme plot line just enough to keep your audience captivated enough to want to watch the end.
In the end it's up to you how you want it to end. weather you want the film student to win the day and get his film idea back from the mindless kid? or does the bad guy win and maybe even kill the film student? or you could even get the mindless kid to realise that he 's done wrong and wants to stand up to his master, the evil teacher, and the two join forces to destroy him.

you have to work through how you would like it to end then figure the bits out in between. try writing bullet point of pinnacle moments in the plot were action takes place and see if you can figure how point one goes in to point two.
Either way i hope this has helped.

  11. QUESTION:
Is it a good idea to record/add audio after?
I'm thinking of making a short comedy film but I don't have a professional microphone that will easily record over the heads of the actors. I only have a regular microphone that could easily record separately from the video footage. So I'm asking anyone who has experience with this type of stuff... Is it a good idea to record the video of the actors talking and then have them record their voices after? Would this still look professional?

    • ANSWER:
Most dialogue in big-budget films is actually recorded after filming. It's called ADR. However, unless you have access to professional recording and editing equipment, it's pretty much impossible to do this and have it look natural and professional. In any case, you should record dialogue whilst shooting, even if your microphone is not professional standard, so that you have what's called a guide-track to match the re-recording to.

I'm guessing you don't have the budget to access industry-standard ADR equipment. I would recommend you hire a professional microphone for the shoot, you can do this pretty inexpensively. If you don't have good sound, your film won't come across as professional, so it's a good investment in my opinion.

  12. QUESTION:
Ideas for this comic short film?
I have an idea for a short film where a guy is walking down a street (laid-back funk music non-diegetically playing in the background) but then he sees a car following him, and the music changes to more upbeat "chase" funk music as this guy starts to run (but not like a thriller, more like a comedy ala Superbad when Evan is running).. But i need a background story - why is this person chasing him and what could happen? Any good ideas would be appreciated

    • ANSWER:
the person chaseing him is the store clerk who wants to let him know that the condems he gave him are the wrong size he gave the guy large by mistake the guy wanted extra small

  15. QUESTION:
Do you have any ideas for a short film?
I am making a short film this summer and I need to come up with 12 ideas. I am open to any genre. I am interested in fantasy/drama/romance/comedy. I am not a huge horror fan, but if you have any horror ideas, I am still interested. It should be about 3-5 minutes. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
When I did my student film, back when we used "Super-8" film cameras, I did several versions of the old "kid gets hit by a car' joke, and it killed my audience - they loved it!

I made up a dummy that resembled my main character, using yarn for hair, etc. and using the same khakis and light blue shirt on both dummy and actor. In the key scene, I had a car approaching; my actor was seen approaching the crosswalk, and then *CUT* move the actor out, and *ROLL* throw the dummy in front of the car, striking the dummy and sending it flying. The camera follows the dummy's flight. Once the dummy lands *CUT* tha actor takes the dummy's place, and "*ROLL* the kid gets up and dusts himself off.

Options at this point can be "blood" suddenly soaking through the kid's clothes, broken bones, etc. Once you get the technique down, which is much easier and cheaper with digital and video tape than film, then you can expand to the old "kid falls off the schollbuilding" joke, "kid gets dragged by the schoolbus" joke, and, my favorite, the old "kid gets fed into the tree-chipper" joke.

  16. QUESTION:

  19. QUESTION:
Ideas for a comedy short film for school?
My friend and I are doing a short film for school and need help with ideas. I can't really think right now because i'm doing a radio drama for drama so HELP!!!!!
I'm in need help me im begging on my hands and knees here?

    • ANSWER:
It could be humorous to do a short comedy spoofing the stereotypical Hollywood movie writing progress. You have a small group of writers sitting in a room brainstorming on a movie idea and they have a checklist on a white board of each stereotypical element that a movie needs to be successful. But you have them being serious as they present each one and it is humorous in it's seriousness.

  20. QUESTION:
How to end a short comedy film?
I know how to write a screenplay and film. I also know how to begin the comedy genre, my question is the ending. How to end a funny comedy. Can you also give me a few ideas, from there i can recreate the story. Just a simple sentence would be fine. Thank you

    • ANSWER:
Some famous endings to comedy are:

      1. Some Like it Hot - "I'm a Man" "Well, Nobody's Perfect"
      2. Dumb and Dumber - When they are fixing to get on the bus full of swimsuit models, and would have been hired to be the oil boys to grease them up before each competition, but then they direct the bus towards a town and say that they'll find someone their who can help.
      3. Young Frankenstein - "RAAAAUGGGGHHH!"
      4. The Simpsons Season 8 episode, the Twisted World of Marge Simpson - with the martial arts fight scene

But if you want it to stand out above all other comedies, you always need to end on a high note. It can either be Slapstick (physical comedy) or Verbal Comedy

  21. QUESTION:
What makes a good story for a film as opposed to onstage?
What do you guys think the requirements of a story to be successful on stage and what requirements should a story have to be successful in film? Why are some stories good on stage and not on film and vice versa? I really need your help...I have no idea because I dont have a tv and i never go to the theater and i have no idea where to go with this. Please help...thanks so much!

    • ANSWER:
It depends. Are you writing a play/screenplay? The main thing you should pay attention to is structure. Speaking from a writing and production perspective...

      A Full-Length Play:
-Usually lasts 2 hours (around a minute a page, give or take)
-Has arcs leading to the act break/end of the play
-relies upon live actor performances more than anything
      -limits its location

      A Film:
      - lasts 90 minutes to 2 1/2 hours (comedys tend to be shorter)
-Has arcs leading through scene changes
-relies upon director's shots and editing to tell story
      -generally has many locations

There are exceptions to all these rules, of course. But generally, if I read something that has a bunch of quick scenes or more than two locations, that tends to be more feasable as a film since logistically moving that much is not usually possible on stage as well as confusing to the playgoing audience. If I read a single location script with a few characters it will be a capable play since most movies lose steam if the shots last too long.

      I hope that makes sense.

  22. QUESTION:
why do so many bollywood films have slapping as a form of comedy?
there have been a lot of films in recent times which have made excessive use of slaps as a form of comedy. Almost all the comedies have men and women slapping the crap out of each other and we're supposed to laugh at that. Is it just that film-makers are short of ideas or is it that the public has started to like slap-stick,cheap and offensive stuff?

    • ANSWER:
When Director and script writer fall short of ideas and lack in creataivity they resort to this kind of comedy. Latest example is Housefull where everybody slapping around each other.

  25. QUESTION:
What does it mean when is says Acting & Modeling Objectives?
I'm writing an acting resume, and I'm stuck on this question.
Does it mean like, what I want to do in those fields?
That's my idea of it, but I don't want to write something if I'm not sure that's what it means.
So please, help would be nice (:
An example would be nice, too, so I have a visual idea of it.
& can this section be as long as I'd like?
Or is it better if it's shorter?

    • ANSWER:
It only needs to be a sentence or two - you really need to narrow down your interests. Every actor has certain areas they prefer - comedy, drama, musical, horror, theater, commercials, television, etc

You need to be honest with yourself, your talent, and your looks. Face it, if you are 300lbs, you probably won't get many chances to audition for a romantic lead. But you might be perfect for comedy. Of if you are really short and thin, you aren't going to be cast in too many action films, so focus on drama where it's more about your acting than your physical presence.

  28. QUESTION:
What steps are needed to making a movie trailer?
I have already got an idea, and I have also got the short movie. What steps are needed to make a trailer for that movie?

    • ANSWER:
      1. Draft a brief plot of the trailer, key points you want the viewer to know.
      2. Write a narrative that will be spoken during the segment, or plan to have text appear onscreen.
      3. Select brief clips from the film. Don't include spoilers or the best/funniest scenes.
      4. Select or compose music to accompany the visuals.

You'll want to summarize the buildup to the climax without revealing the journey and certainly without revealing the outcome. Don't focus on insignificant details, you want to shotgun blast the info to the viewer. People want entertainment either through drama, comedy, action, etc..... so the trailer must appeal to that type of audience.

What Dutch Film would you recommend for someone learning Dutch?
I am currently learning Dutch and would like to watch a Dutch film (preferably with English subtitles) so that I can learn Dutch whilst watching. Any ideas?

    • ANSWER:
      1. If you have started studying Dutch there can be a great help from the children's cartoons like "Nijntje" (known worldwide as Miffi). Check out some cartoons on YouTube: they are very short, simple and understandable even for 3-5 year old kids. They helped me a lot.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6P2jbkTJI6E
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gN_HWMfYHEc
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSEbG2ii68o&feature=related

Here is a selection of Nijntje DVDs released in The Netherlands, you can see the the original versions: http://www.freerecordshop.nl/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/FreeRecordShop-FRS_B2C_NL-Site/nl_NL/-/EUR/ViewFas-List;pgid=7FWGaYD0CvtSR0czkTiH2yE00000WQQDljPI?fh_Params=fh_location%3D%252f%252ffrs%252fnl_NL%252fsite%253e%257bfreerecordshop%257d%252f_personsn%253e%257b480749%257d%252fcategories%253c%257bfrs_02%257d%26fh_reftheme%3Dpromo_nl_BE_113045015%252cseeall%252c%252f%252ffrs%252fnl_NL%252fsite%253e%257bfreerecordshop%257d%252f_personsn%253e%257b480749%257d%26fh_refview%3Dsummary&SubCat=02 (I order from this web-shop in NL, they say they send products outside the country, but I am not sure it is the best deal for you)

Looking for more gratis episodes of Nijtje (Miffi) watch out: some clips may contain adult content decorated as the cartoon!

      2. There were Dutch film being nominated or winning international awards, including Oscars. They are available in different versions (synchronized or subtitled)

"Zus & Zo" http://www.allmovie.com/dvd/zus-and-zo-38830 It's a comedy and it should have English subtitles.
"Antonia" (for the foreign market "Antonia's Life") http://www.allmovie.com/work/antonias-line-134973

The following films are directed by famous Paul Verhoeven and they aren't for children.

  31. QUESTION:
Will someone take this idea and turn it into a short script?
I want to make this short film about a married couple talking to a marriage counselor about their problems. During their conversation they would keep flashing back to their nights at home and it would show comical things that they do to each other to get on each others nerves at home. I would want it to be comedy. I can do it myself, but I'm so bad with dialogue.....anybody?

    • ANSWER:
Dude! Wise1, get a grip! There is nothing wrong with collaboration! Professional writers do it all the time!

I would suggest, however that you find someone near you that you can meet with in person. That way you can make sure the script is what you want. You can look on the internet for writer's group or form one of your own. Be careful about sharing your ideas in the future, though. It is a good idea to register them with the WGA and copywrite them with the Library of Congress, just to make sure no one steals them.

People having conversation in a change room, bus stop, food court, in a queue, in PE class, watching sports (like in a stadium, in a hospital, in a waiting room, a bus / train etc The conversations could be "meaningful" or those conversations you hear that are just a little funny or off - those conversations that you come into the middle of that you know means one thing but could be taken another or are just hilarious for double meanings. Or you could learn about something that happened - by working backwards...

Follow something around. Follow feet or a piece of paper (a drawing or note), follow what happens in a bed for an hour or a day but in 5 or 10 minutes or however long you have (see CentreStage where they are wearing in their shoes, Can't Hardly Wait near the end for a note and Forrest Gump for a feather - obviously you'd make your own version maybe something that means something to you...) For example at the "State Fair" (called a show here) they (news camera people) sometimes take the camera off their shoulder and walk with it at thigh height through sideshow alley - the rides and games area - for perspective as a 5 year old would see it...

  33. QUESTION:
What is the version of phantom of the opera with electronic music dubbed over it?
when I was in 4th grade, about 1994, my brother got the movie phantom of the opera 1925 on vhs. Was a blue box with a film reel on it, and it was just called "cinema classics" and we loved the movie, especially because it had this awesome techno/electronic music over it. My brother has the tape still, but I was curios if I could find the version online somewhere, or find the soundtrack?

Anybody have any idea?, and want that juicy 10 point bonus aye aye!

    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
I hope you can find it because it sounds cool. Phantom of the Opera brings back memories because I worked at a coffee house in the early 1970s and we showed whatever 16mm films we could get from the local library in the basement. We snagged a copy of Phantom of the Opera and word got around. We ran it over and over to a packed basement. It was silent but everybody thought this was great because there was no videotape at the time. So when I could get it on VHS, I did and probably have it around somewhere but I have no working VHS player.

What really stinks is that I can't get the film shorts that we used to show back then. Even recent good shorts are disappearing. There's an Aussie film called "They" about the secret group that made up all the "They say,,," sayings. You could see it on Atom films until Comedy Central took it over and then it disappeared. Comedy Central seemed bent on destroying Atom films so you can't even see a fraction of what you could ten years ago.

  41. QUESTION:
How do you set up a screenplay - for Media A level coursework.?
I need some ideas on how to set it out and the layout and what I should include

    • ANSWER:
      Step 1
Read a lot of scripts to get ideas

      Step 2
Get inspiration. Walk around with a notebook or your BB to write down ideas.

      Step 3: Develop Your Characters
If viewers don't care about your characters, they're more than likely going to lose interest in the movie. Characters that are cliché, flat, or unbelievable will drag down even the most creative of plots. Take the time to develop true-to-life characters, and they'll improve your story, whether it's comedy, suspense, or western. Write a short and compelling description of your main characters to use in the screenplay.

      Step 4: Structure Your Story
A good movie needs to take the characters from point A to point B. Most screenplays follow a three-act structure, and each scene should contribute something to the story.
Make a list of scenes and the things that will happen in each scene.
Make sure there's a balance between dialogue and action; you wouldn't want the first half of the film to be all dialogue, followed by 45 minutes of car chases.

      Step 5: Write It Down
Set a writing schedule and stick to it.
Some people recommend to write every day, but if that's not feasible, just set a schedule that works for you.

      Step 6: Format It Correctly
Some screenwriters format their scripts as they go; others use software that takes care of the work for them, and still others wait until the end and do all of the formatting after they've nailed down the first draft.

      Conclusion

Screenwriting is a difficult process, but all of the hard work will be worth it when you see your film on the screen. If you take the time to learn the craft and develop the best script you possibly can, you'll stay ahead of your numerous competitors. Who knows? In a few years, you could be accepting an Oscar for Best Screenplay!

      Good luck
      AJ

  42. QUESTION:
How can I become more CREATIVE?
I entertain people on YouTube with videos of short comedy films & skits. I film these videos with my film crew T.K.C., who are my friends & who I chose to be my comedians. Anyway, my comedy is getting pretty lame. We're getting less funnier every video, & I can't think of any more ideas for a story for a skit. Is it because I have no creativity? Or is it because I have WRITERS BLOCK (because I write the stories & screenplay for the scripts of each video), if WRITERS BLOCK is the case, how to I cure or get rid of it? CAN ANYONE HELP ???

    • ANSWER:
Take a stroll through the history of comedy, from Chaplin to Pryors. Rent films with old stand up comedy, get inspired by watching the masters at work. You'll soon be writing again 😉

      Warming Up (1985)

Juliet Cavanagh-Fforbes (Barbara Stephens) is a young Australian, single mother ballet teacher. Fed up with dating jocks more interested in themselves and sport, she packs up her somewhat long-suffering son Andy (Adam Fernance) and together they leave the big city in search of a new life teaching ballet at a small outback town. Her intense dislike for sport (ballet is art therefore it isn't the same) clouds her judgement during her first encounter with the towns teenage Aussie rules football team, whom she mistakenly takes to be hard, rough bikers out for a bit of rape and pillage. She only realises her mistake after she has driven several of them off the road and ends up in front of an irate Sullivan (Henri Szeps) who, in addition to being the town cop, is also the coach for the aforementioned "haven't-won-a-game-all-season" soccer team. Things go from bad to worse when Cavanagh-Fforbes secretly starts to teach the Wombats ballet steps in order to improve their fitness and they subsequently start winning games. The budding, but fraught-with-problems romance between the hapless ballet teacher and short-tempered cop encounter multiple complications when Sullivan starts teaching Andy soccer behind his mothers back and the whole town realises why the Wombats are winning. Needless to say it is not long before Cavanagh-Fforbes ends up in jail and the Wombats need to break her out if they are to stand any chance of winning the league.

Not able to find the movie, though.

i need ideas for a short film for my research, and its about 15 mnts only, please help... better if it could be comedy and so simple.

    • ANSWER:
Have a professional Mime doing a street performance, then a guy on his lunch break walks by and is intrigued, and starts to copy the movements, but he's terrible at it. He tries to mimic one movement, like being trapped inside an invisible box, but he really looks like he's trying to bat mosquitoes away; something like that, not exactly understand. So the Mime either gets frustrated or amused and gives the guy instructions, not in talk but only in mime.

Does anyone have ideas for a short, simple film?
I'm in college and taking an Intro to Film course to satisfy a requirement. My major is in Accounting, so this is NOT my strong class. We have been studying genres and writing essays on them. Now we're supposed to make a short movie, 5-7 minutes long, specific to one genre... Melodrama, Comedy, Horror/Sci-fi, Musical, Documentary, Western, War, or Film Noir. I don't have a lot to work with and I just really need to pass this class. Thanks for any help I can get!

    • ANSWER:
okay well this actually sounds fun
Western ,War ,Horror/Sci-Fi,Film Noir I would pass .

I would choose between Melodrama ,Comedy ,Musical ,Documentary .

Drama I would prob write and film something about Marriage dating or Family that's easy topic to get Drama story lines from .

Comedy - I would do something like with Family or draw from my own life and something that happened to me I 'm quite clumsy haha I actually have walked into a pole while reading a book .

Musical - I watch Glee and Smash so I thinking I would go the Smash route and think of someone or something and write 2 songs have some sing it with some acting too .

I would choose Documentary simple ...A day in the life of ...teacher then film their day or a day in the life a 6 year old show the world according to a little one .

      Anchor Man

      I hope this list Helped

  49. QUESTION:
Anyone have any ideas for my short film about cuddling?
i think this will probably get removed for some retarded reason like it did before, but im stuck on it. i cant think of a traumatizing cuddling incident that would cause a fear of cuddling.

  50. QUESTION:
Why would they actually plan on making the Fifty Shades of Grey book trilogy into a movie?
Would not watch. The books are too sexual in nature; how will they turn an erotica into a movie?

Anyway, yay or nay? I say nay.

    • ANSWER:
I say YAY. Definitely. I would love to see a new era where women openly go to erotic films that are geared towards them, no shame or embarrassment included. I mean, this is a culture where 12-year-old boys go to see summer action flicks because Megan Fox's T&A are in it. It's just standard that you've gotta throw that in if you're marketing to even little boys. But for grown-a** women, the only thing we really get are chaste watered down cheesy flicks like Twilight and every romantic comedy ever. But we're not children. We're adults. For those of us who want adult romance, where do we get it? Oh yeah, books.

So yes, I think it's high time that crossed over into film. What's the difference? If you can sit there and picture it all in your head, why can't you see it for real in front of you? Let's get rid of the brainwashed blushing and giggling and the idea that our sexuality should be a secret fantasy.

Short answer: where do I buy my ticket? Also, please let them sell chocolate-covered strawberries at the concession stand.
